  1. that's in inaccurate statement.. who pays for the education now? free market education is much more effective a major reason the home school population has tripled over the last years
  2. I think the best solution to the problem is to privatize education.. then your child can receive the best education for them as an individual.. and the issue of "Christmas songs" will be nearly non existant
  3. we had our first garden last year.. did better than we thought for those with small spaces I have heard the square foot gardens work great
  4. there is a member in our ward who's ringtone is the Psycho theme.. made for an interesting break in a testimony last Sunday
  5. cell phones, blackberries and the like.. even if you shut them off, ( not all do) please put them away.. leave em in your car not only is it a distraction to those around you but its insulting to those who are speaking
  6. we often do the same the 4 year old boy and the 3 year old boy NEVER sit side by side during sacrement
  7. I thought about it.. I liked the idea I have a blog and two website I maintain 3 forums I frequent not to mention the other internet related stuff on my plate I am not sure I could keep up with it
  8. My mother informed me several months ago that my food storage was selfish.. I was hoarding.. I tried to explain to her the purpose.. It was like talking to a wall.. has anyone else been met with these types of comments from others and how do you relay the importance to them
  9. For us our food storage started differently I was what many call a "super couponer" before I even joined the church.. I already had a food storage LOL What I did was I would buy large qty of the deal/sale items that week I try to tell people to start with $10-20 a week.. if you spend $10-20 a week you can build up good storage fast for example if peanut butter was on sale for $1.50 and I had $1 off coupons I would get as many coupons I could and buy as many as I could or if the store had pasta on sale for $1 lb I would spend $20 and buy 20 lbs maybe the next week it was $20 of cereal or veggies then I got to a point to where all I needed to buy was perishables and I was only shopping deals.. so i would spend maybe $50 on weekly food and $100 on storage not only did we build a great food storage but I was doing it on a budget...
  10. teaching is one thing.. tolerating is another.. they do neither
  11. sounds to me she may be speaking of "multicultural" peopels, to which are not to blame.. its the home bred anti-christians that have created this problem but if she is speaking of government sponsored education, I concur.. its not a government delegation.. And since the schools are federally funded and practically mandated, you cant just "move"
  12. I think there may be confusion in what a kid being a kid and making a bit of noise, and being completely rude and disruptive I was told my first Sunday not to worry if the baby fussed etc..we need to stay in Sacrament.. but when my 2 year old screamed no and threw a book he decided he no longer wanted we went and sat in a chair in the mothers room till he realized that was not what he wanted to be doing. I have seen several small children misbehaving, running up the aisle... recently while the parent is off in their own world.. playing with his cell phone those are the children, rather parents, who I think the complaints are about. we all know kids make noise, even when sitting perfectly quiet :)
  13. we do it.. we lead by example and have seen it work first hand Whats more embarrassing, and inspiring, than sitting behind 7 well behaved children and your 1 or 2 are acting up every week. thats why we sit in the second row.. and are thanked often for it
  14. I have 7 children ages 10 and under Under NO circumstances are they allowed to be disruptive in the chapel, Especially during sacrament its not hard to teach your children reverence.. even my daughter, who is not quite 2 understands this.. I let my kids burn their energy and be kids for 167 hours a week.. they can sit still and be reverent for 1. But I blame the parents.. My husband has seen priesthood holders using blackberrys etc while he was passing sacrament.. if the adults cant show reverence, how is the child to know
  15. my Children pay tithing on their allowance, after they have been baptized, if for nothing other than to start forming habits..
  16. we do not own a tv.. we do however use the internet alot we have one computer and it sits in the living room , where most of you have a tv.. we do watch "tv" online, but its commercial free.. and very regulated my kids have their own acct on the computer with safeguards.. due to the varying ages 9 and under, they go to a large variety of websites. they are bookmarked and they really dont surf as far as you tube, we watch alot of it.. but again, my kids are pretty aware of the fact there are things they cant see and even when the 3 year old is watching veggie tales songs we rarely have "accident" issues For those that have not yet found it.. GodTube is a spin off and as far as I can tell, quite safe
  17. I was raised in a very devout Catholic family I wish the two of you luck.. as my mom and I agree on very few things..
  18. A dear friend of mine did a similar thing.. she was married and interested in another man, who was a member.. she started attending church classes etc.. nothing ever came of them, but she has been a member for 29 years now.. and a very good example of a Mormon. so thats my 2 cents :)
  19. what do you use for email and your home page I have used Yahoo for years but I have been having problems I just saw that LDS living has a new email program.. so I can be me@LDSliving .com or whatever ...but they do not have a customizable homepage.. which I love about yahoo.. I have links and news etc set up on my page.. its like a one stop shop KWIM so what do you use/recommend?
  20. I have since moved away and my brother is living with the Bishop and his girlfriend full time.. as he is no longer my bishop and no longer has authority over my moral guide, I have decided to leave the matter alone.. I guess if others in the ward are fine with it, so be it.. as for me.. If I were seeking a temple recommend from him, I would feel I would need to press the matter, but since that is no longer the case, he can do as he pleases maybe I will get to be an Auntie sooner than I expected
  21. its my brother, and yes he does its not so much that its my brother... but its due to that fact I know the circumstances.. its that a leader in my church is allowing an unmarried couple to "live, or stay nights" together..irregardless of who he is allowing .... I would expect him to say this is inappropriate and to not allow it.. that they are not.. and the bishop knows that.....
  22. he lives with us to save $ till he gets married.. they live 10 min down the road.. there is no need to have a sleep over IMO I just did tn know If I should even bring it up. I mean how do you tell your Bishop you dont agree with his decision to allow it KWIM
  23. my adult brother lives with my husband and I .. he has started dating the Bishops daughter who is also and adult and lives with them ( her parents) .. He has been spending nights there.. I think last night was the 4th or 5th night he has stayed over in the past two weeks.. Now I dont know what all has happened.. but IMO its extremely inappropriate and I am mostly upset that my Bishop would support this kind of behavior.. My husband and I have discussed it with my brother but he sees nothing wrong.. let me add that we ( brother included) are fairly new to the church( 6mos) and the daughter has been quite inactive for a good period of time.. anyhow.. I know that they are both adults.. and like I said, I am mostly concerned that a leader in my church is allowing this to happen in his own home.. Any Advice?
  24. but isn't that consistent with most Christian religions.. I dont see how they are their own religion.. I am a Mormon, but I feel the same way about children, as does the catholic church..
