  1. The Church is welcoming to members and nonmembers alike, active or inactive. I hope you're able to find your local ward and to take steps back to feeling God's Spirit. All of us are children of God, and I hope you let Him back into your life :)
  2. Personally, I say no. It's not conservative enough for me. Another question you may want to ask yourself about this or anything like it is are you trying to attract attention to yourself? If you are, rather than attention to the ordinance itself, there may be a problem. However, if that's not your intention, then do what you wish, and if a problem arises from it, face it and do what's right.
  3. I started reading the first book, and I got about 2/3 the way through it (quite a page turner, don't really remember what happens, though, but I don't recall anything big happening) before leaving it. I don't really have any interest in finishing the series for several reasons: there's a lot of 'near-sex' stuff going on like ldsflower mentioned (one other person put it as 'pyscho-sex'), there's a lot of annoying fanbase going on, and I just get the impression that it's a really corny love story. I laughed through almost the entire first movie (the make-out scene was getting on edge) and have no desire to see the other ones, although the trailer for the 3rd one was hilarious. I've read a few good reviews for some Twilight stuff and the entire thing just throws me off. I'm kinda shocked myself that an LDS author (she is LDS, right??) did write some of that stuff, and how she got published with Shadow Mountain, which is supposed to maintain the same standards for publishing as Deseret Books (since SM is under DB) just boggles my mind. I Wikied the book summaries and that was good enough for me. There's better stories out there.
  4. You've got to be really careful with this sort of thing. The guy may have written it to help others, but people could start changing it so it says different things as well. I'm thinking of all the different versions of the bible that have been created, and how much confusion it created in the process over the years. Even with the KJV Bible we need the JST to help understand some things. I would stick with the original. It has all the original wording that they used, and not an interpretation of what they were saying. And besides, reading all the old style wording like in the Book of Mormon helps you to read harder literature, as well as help you gain a testimony. I can read out loud like none other because of reading the scriptures in their intended form. At least the writer of the Plain version says it's not a replacement for the actual thing.
  5. I think that good thoughts come as inspiration from heaven, including intentions to do good and to think positive things, as well as have inspiration to create good things for the benefit of others. I suppose I could include our ability to wonder about things, instead of just knowing or not knowing. I can't say how we have our thoughts-we've always had intelligence, even before we came to earth. It's one of those things that may only be answered when we return to God. That's just my take on it :3
