  1. Ryno, Congratulations on your mission call to Brazil. You seem very enthusiastic, and I think that is an important attribute to have. Do you know any portuguese (sp?) yet? No matter, I feel certain that you will do well. You probably will not be able to keep up with this board, among other things, so come and see us when you return from your very successful mission. Mosiah 2:17
  2. Idacat & Iggy, thanks for the information and your help.
  3. Captain Curmudgeon, if that is you in your avatar then I think your next step from "Senior Member" will shortly be "Nearly Dead"! Don't worry, I'll be there soon enough to keep you company! Iggy, I love Calvin & Hobbes. Oh, how sad I was when the cartoonist decided to quit creating new series of cartoons. And did you ever see the TV series "Bobby's World"; that too was so funny and Bobby was much like Calvin.
  4. My twelve-year-old grandson loves the Fablehaven series. I love that he is reading. Young people do not read enough, imho, these days.
  5. I'd like a girl to bring me flowers ....oh, you mean a guy bringing a girl flowers? Actually, I'd prefer chocolates, those dark chocolate ones with the creamy centers! :) Or is that taboo too? So many rules. Is there a book on these here rules? Heck and tarnation, with me I'd just settle for someone liking me enough to go out on a date with me.
  6. Dare to call me old...and I'll take this one foot out of the grave and chase ya away from my resting place.
  7. You're not a "Purple People Eater" are you? Are you even old enough to remember that song? Welcome! :) I should be studying Photoshop...yet here I am. This new fangled stuff with avatars, and picture cropping, and digital...stuff gets to me. Old dog, new tricks.
  8. Book: The Case Against Adolescence by Robert Epstein, Ph.D. (warning! may upset some people) In general, I believe in giving responsibilites based upon competence, while balancing the need for free time and enjoyment. Actually, I suppose this applies to people of any age.
  9. Please do not take this wrong, but I do not believe God abandons us. We abandon him by making wrong choices. I know I did. May you find the Truth of the Gospel. Continue to read the Book of Mormon, pray, fast, attend services with your LDS friends and family.
  10. Karen, I know about searching for lost friends. Mark Bender and I were very close several decades ago, and I have been looking for him a long time. So, I wish you all the best in finding your former teacher. Hope you enjoy this site well enough to stay around with us.
  11. "You had me from hello." - Kenny Chesney (taken from the movie Jerry Maguire) Glad you are here.
  12. Hi, Cindy. I too am new. (Please don't let my introductory post scare you. I'm actually fairly sane.) I have one son and two wonderful grandchildren, a boy of twelve and a girl of fifteen. They all live in Utah, many miles away from me. Hope you enjoy your stay here.
  13. Thanks for the welcoming messages and words of encouragement. The VA is providing what medical care I get, since I cannot afford insurance. I have thought of using the VA for counseling, but it is just too far away. I do not have a car, nor do I have much money, so my travel options are severly limited. On the positive side, which I try to maintain, I am healthy for a man my age, especially so since I get a lot of walking in the desert heat. Plus I do small workouts some mornings with stretching and dumbbells, also an excercise wheel. If you have never tried an excercise wheel, I highly recommend it. I try to eat fairly well, though admit that I like chocolate (eat the dark kind these days) and ice cream. Fruits and vegetables are a big part of my diet too.
  14. Age divisions on this Earth are arbitrary. Aren't we all Eternal Beings? If so, then why does age matter so much? Having said that, I am trying (as I struggle to find a way to repent and return to the Church) to obey whatever our leaders tell us to do. So, I attend meetings for us "older" people. Just for information: From The Case Against Adolescence by Robert Epstein: "...Mary Onesi...and her husband of just over eighty years were interviewed by the Associated Press in 1998. They had been honored on World Marriage Day in 1995 as the longest-married couple in America.... She married her husband Paul in 1917 when he was twenty-one and she was thirteen. By all accounts their marriage was happy and successful, and it was certainly prolific."
  15. I am looking for information for the following surnames: Kinkade Tomlinson (my sister's married name) I grew up on the east coast, and I think most, if not all, of my still living relatives probably still live in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. My family and I were never close (to say the very least), and I lost track of them years ago. I am a neonate at genealogy, so please be understanding in feeding me any information you may have.
  16. Pro football is one of my favorite sports to watch...when I have time. Since the early 1960s when Roger Staubach joined the Cowboys I have been a Dallas fan. I am excited about the upcoming season, and I think we are going to be strong contenders. Sometimes I may try to catch a BYU Cougars game if one is on in my area.
  17. My first name was taken as a username, so I registered using my surname. It is pronounced just like the painter Thomas Kinkade. I wrote to him once asking about geneological information, but he never responded. I am excommunicated and have been for 36 years. My addiction has caused me serious problems, viz., divorce & loss of family, imprisonment, loss of profession, and loss of friends. I struggle every day with my weakness, some days are better than others. Paul said he had a thorn in his side. I have an entire cactus implanted over my body. I do not know (as many say in fast & testimony meetings) if the Gospel is true. My faith is weak, but I am trying to grow the seed. That is one reason I am here. During my sixteenth year (ages ago) I was introduced to the Church by a high school friend. My family was hostile, but eventually I was able to be baptized. I joined for all the wrong reasons and eventually hurt others, getting myself excommunicated in the process. In 1969 I graduated from what was then Ricks Jr. College, and two years later I graduated from BYU. I am a four year Navy veteran with an honorable discharge. Anything else you want to know, just ask.
