  1. My wife told me that ladies were talking behind her during the temple session we attended last week.
  2. It's probably okay to let your Bishop know your concerns so that he can talk with the family, if he hasn't already. Also, for some reason, our stake doesn't allow the wards to pass the sacrament into the foyer. I've been in stakes where that was done, but not this one. Weird.
  3. Part of the gum is digested, ie the flavor part as it goes with your saliva down to your stomach. I wouldn't chew gum during a fast.
  4. I don't believe that our monetary system is intentionally engineering these collapses, but I do believe instability is inherent in our monetary system.
  5. Criminal? Please explain...
  6. It's unfortunate that because of government intervention, we've been living in an economic fantasy. It's also unfortunate that the government believes that more intervention is going to bring us to economic reality, when in fact it will change but prolong the fantasy. The return to economic reality will be painful but necessary if we don't want it to be even more painful later on.
  7. The resurrection will definitely be sweet for you! Hang in there!
  8. After you've been converted and your work has been done, I understand that you would move to spirit paradise and become a missionary yourself, and continue the work, probably seeking out your own family first and then going from there. There is order in the house of God, is there not? Having authority from God to act in his name and officiate in his ordinances is not unreasonable, in fact, it's expected if things are to be done properly and have any efficacy in the hereafter. I'm also not sure why it would seem "priestcraftish." It's not like those with the Priesthood bought it and sell it to others.
  9. The prison here has an organized branch.
  10. I understand it's unofficially categorized as a "restorationist" church.
  11. It seems like the guy believed the LDS Church was a protestant religion. I've certainly seen it categorized as such, although I disagree that it is. Divorce is rarely pleasant, and in this case, ouch! I think the guy should continue to go as a matter of his conscience and do what he can to have his little family home evenings, but keep it mainstream, protestant Christian, until they're old enough for him to open up more about his LDS faith then the court is currently allowing.
  12. It's only a rendering according to the artist. What did you tell the Bishop to offend him?
  13. You should make them each a sweater!
  14. The temple work would still have to be done for you through the proper authorized Priesthood channels.
  15. Nice thoughts everyone. I think I'm with Captain_Curmudgeon, though. LOL
  16. That last couple of years, as my son has gotten old enough to start asking for things for Christmas, I've only been able to think about how much I'm starting to dislike the current practice of celebrating Christmas. My wife and I have talked about having my son fill out a Christmas list, but not for things he wants. Rather, we would help him right down names of his friends and family and list what he wants to give to each of them for Christmas. We've already decided (he's 3 now) that we weren't going to get him to believe in Santa. We want to get his focus on others and not himself, as this season seems to do for everyone. I just think that the most important holiday of the year, the celebration of the birth of Christ, has become too "mammon-ized". (Obviously he's aware of Santa and knows he's related to Christmas, but we'll help him understand who he is from an historical perspective.) I actually felt strongly about boycotting the entire holiday when I read about that poor Wal-mart employee that was killed because of what Christmas has become. It's absolutely disgusting to me what people do these days because of Christmas. It makes me angry, you know? We're teaching my son (kids) that Christmas is about others, and Birthdays are about him. I think that will be a nice contrast and as long as we're consistent, everything will be alright.
  17. I do. I also pay tithes on such things as tuition reimbursement.
  18. As Margin pointed out, his message was one of self defense. Also, Joseph Smith is a person like you or I and never claimed to be perfect, or perfectly Christ-like. Since I'm sure the quote has either been given or taken out of context, it would be wise to reserve judgement until you've examined his entire life, factually.
  19. Oh sure, and I didn't mean to make it sound like that. I apologize. The Church has several efforts that help everyone, not just members. What I'm talking about are the blessings that come to full tithe payers that need genuine help.
  20. It comes back to the same things. A lot of bills these days are unnecessary, such as internet, cable, cell-phone etc. And if you show a commitment to the Church, then the Church will help when you need it. But you have to do your part, which means activity, callings, and tithing.
  21. I doubt that using their money for tithing instead of reducing their debt caused them to go into bankruptcy. A lot of people go into bankruptcy no doubt, especially in Utah, as it seems, but I don't think that if that money was shifted from tithing to debt that it would have prevented the bankruptcy. It would have come anyways. Why was it ever a problem? Because they weren't personally responsible with their finances. Not paying their tithing is not going to fix that. Paying their tithing and using that commitment to become financially responsible will fix their habits and prevent debt problems down the road. That and the Church will help them when they truly need it, so long as they're faithful and pay their tithes as asked. There's something to changing one's ways (financial, spiritual) for the better when you're financially committed to something, isn't there?
  22. I thought I'd repost here what I posted in that closed thread:
  23. Though his mission here has ended, his mission there is just beginning!
  24. I googled and found this article that has several GA quotes on that section. Page 4 has the relevant quotes for this thread. http://emp.byui.edu/SATTERFIELDB/PDF/Quotes/Telestial.pdf
