It was interesting to read Elder Burton's take on the women who want the priesthood. He was very generous to them concerning their motivations.

EarlJibbs, that article makes sense to me. Being responsible for ordinances, etc does not mean better or having more power. If anything I would wonder if being mothers and having nurturing responsibilties wouldnt be more powerful.

The nice thing, Pam, is that it would never be handed over BECAUSE of that group. It would be given because God wanted it to be done and it was when He wanted it done. There are people who have been demanding the priesthood for quite some time so this is really not that different except for how they are going about it. Vocally and in a demanding way. It is not going to change because of them.

Probably most tattoos are something an believing LDS person can live with after conversion. The ones I would worry about are the pornographic ones. It might make a person uncomfortable going to the temple. Not sure about repentance. The thing is if you repent of sinful life choices and turn yourself around do you have to worry about relics of that previous life?

Let's assume that the prophet gets up in GC and says "Heavenly Father says women shouldn't hold the priesthood." Do you really thing this group of women are going to stop campaigning against the church? I don't think they will. I think if anything is said at GC it will just fan the flames.
The talks are prepared long before conference anyway.

We didnt have the priesthood for it to be restored to us. We have always been able to act in certain ordinances but that does not mean we ever held the priesthood.

Talisyn, before the priesthood was given to black people there was a lot of agitation for it to be done but mostly from out of the church although there was some in the church as well.
Many people prayed for that day to come. Most of us probably didnt think it would happen before Christ returned. I know that I hoped it would happen but figured it would happen when it happened and not by the church giving into pressure.
When it did happen lots thought that many would leave the church since they assumed we were racists.
When it comes down to it, if we believe that Christ is the head of the church then what He decides is not going to cause us to lose our testimony. If we dont really have a testimony then we will be swayed by current popular thought on what should be done.

Actually, I have to admit I think it's pretty hilarious. I admit it's purely a matter of whose ox is being gored.
I am not sure baiting crazy people is all that funny especially if they are armed. Of course the hackers werent going to be the ones attacked so it would make it a lot easier for them to laugh.

This subject has been discussed on this site before. It got about the same response. Jon Steward is a better source of news than a lot of supposedly real newscasters. :) He seems to find out about whats going on so he can comment on it in a humorous way which is a lot more than some of the 'real' newscasters.

Well, the BoM in 2 Nephi states all are alike unto God. To me this encompasses everything, really. Plus, Joseph Smith himself said the Relief Society, when it was first founded, would be modeled after the pattern of the Priesthood.
Not to mention (and this is more vague for me, I haven't gotten to the NT yet so apologies) Jesus included women in intimate ways, right? It was a woman who saw him before his ascension, Mary Magdalene. Women have played powerful, priest-like roles in the OT, too, with Deborah sitting as judge.
I definitely take lack of outright prohibition as permission, too :) Nothing I've read prohibits women from the priesthood, so I don't see why we are prohibited from it. It just seems like something people need to ask in the right way at the right time for it to change.

When you say it seems like something people need to ask in the right way at the right time is very much key. If it is something God wants it is not going to be affected by women going to the media and forming groups to protest for what they want.

Maybe not the current teachings but I absolutely believe they represent doctrine, as I've read and am learning it.

I laugh at your posts all the time. The problem is, I assume you are trying to be serious, so laughing at your posts publicly on the forums would be deemed inappropriate.

I kinda laughed a little when people here said fracking being farfetched and 'creative' as the catalyst to the destruction of the country. Consider this: Joseph Smith said that an earthquake would lay Missouri flat. Then there is the Joseph Smith prophesy that the major cities along the east coast would be devastated by an earthquake. Fracking could connect these two events.
Fracking takes place not only in southern midwest states, OK, Texas, etc. but it is practiced in Penn, NJ, and many other states including western states, for instance NM.
Think about what is going to happen when these earthquakes occur. Transportation between the two halves of the US are going to be gone. Oddly the least affected will probably be the mountain west area. By coincidence? where the church is based.
Would this be purely a natural occurrence? Nope. Fracking is continued despite the troubling increase in earthquakes in areas where its done. Along with the quakes the water is also being contaminated. That alone would hinder recovery. All this is a direct result of people just not caring about the damage they cause.
People bring about their own destruction. The form the destruction takes is up the God but we certainly can bring it about by our actions.
We have been told that this is a promised land but if we forget Him it will be taken from us. Look around and see what we have done to ourselves. Love our neighbors? Seriously? Love God? Anyone who loves God is called a bigot and mocked. Half of all babies are born out of marriage. Many are aborted. More and more people cant find work to provide for themselves and their families. Wars are started for gain. Stupid people do things like this for 'fun'. The fracking is a symptom of the stupidity and selfishness. When we think about how it can all go downhill to actually destroy our country it has a good chance of happening as I said.

Proctor and Alma Mullen, my grandfathers double cousin and wife. They were Friends and lived their lives with the highest standards of that religion. They were kind, gentle, self effacing, loving, and worshipped God in all they did. Proctor and my grandfather loved each other as brothers. My grandfather was everything Proctor wasnt. Quick to anger, abrasive, two faced, selfish, and unkind. It was such a contrast that only served to emphasize how Proctor carried a sense of peace with him and so did his wife.
When they walked in a room you could not even dream of anger or fighting.

Yes, I'm sure that they planned their coming out meeting to coincide with the General Conference Priesthood session.
It just reinforces their disdain for the Church.
They can be out there with the other antimormon protesters. They should feel at home.

I really hope that is not the case, knit. If so there are deeper worries than missed affection. You need to talk to someone in person that will listen to what you are saying. The bishop might be able to or help find you someone. The main thing is you need to talk to someone about this.

Most likely he is tired. That might be making the problem worse for you too. One thing you have going for you is that you probably have a long time to work on this.
Does he see other couples who are more openly affectionate? I wonder because when I was growing up we seldom saw open affection in our family. I knew my parents loved each other and loved us kids but I doubt my mother ever kissed me or any of us kids. My father either. I never saw them kiss or hug each other or us kids either. Maybe this is what he knew? I am lucky and have a very affectionate husband but I bet it would be harder if I were a man. I would never presume to show physical affection to anyone if they show ANY sign they are might be the slightest bit unwilling or uncomfortable. This would include my kids and grandkids. Its just the way I was raised. Sounds like he might have been too.
This is not a good thing. Especially if he is doing it and doesnt see it as an issue. What is good is if he can get to the point of being more affectionate he will be happier.

How old are you both? I am wondering about his history as well. Is his family this unemotional outwardly? Something seems off kilter.
He seems as if he does love you but for some reason has some kind of barrier against the softness and touching parts of affection. Did he grow up in an abusive or disfunctional family?

I guess we have our answer on the priesthood and it was delivered in a very firm but polite way. :)
