  1. You do NOT have to say why you are there, you can be a fly on the wall or participate as little or as much as you feel comfortable with this is how the meetings in my area work (las Vegas) What goes on in a meeting ? All meetings are held in church building, usually away from other meetings, and usually in a part of the building that is more private, with its own entrance. Above all anonymity is crucial, it is important that participants feel safe coming and that they won't be recognized going into a meeting. Signs should indicate only that this is a LDS Support meeting. There should be signs where to go, at all entrances to the church. The dress is casual, only first names are used. Even titles as Bishop and President are not used in this setting, we are all equals. Even the missionaries go by their first names. The chairs are all in a circle, or semi circle. Interesting note. (Many participants do NOT attend their home ward or stake group, but go as far away as possible to avoid recognition). The meeting starts by a welcome by the group leader and introduction of themselves and the facilitator. Participants are asked that cell phones be turned off or at least on vibrate. A volunteer is asked to say the opening prayer, (non members X members and dis-fellowshipped members may pray, this is not an "official church meeting") The mission statement is read. Any announcements are given. The 12 steps are read by the group, each person reading a step, and then the lesson is read, everyone reading a paragraph or two, if someone does not want to read they can just pass. The Lesson usually lasts 10 to12 minutes. The meeting is then turned over to the facilitator. He conducts the sharing portion of the meeting. Each person is given the opportunity to share. If someone does not want to share they just state their name and say that they pass for now. After everyone has had the chance to share, the meeting is opened up for questions. The same rules apply as regular sharing, speak only in the “I form” Questions are only answered by directing comments to the WHOLE group and not to the person who asked the question. We only share what experience we have personally had, we are not there to give advice or fix each other. The remaining time is used up; the meeting should not go over time. Sharing may be about the lesson or about anything going on in their life that might be of benefit. When it is the persons turn they say “my name is _______ and everyone says hi______ then share. The Sharing is a safe place to open up. No matter what is shared, profound or not so profound, at the end of a persons sharing everyone says thanks_______. Sharing is like a focused subject, testimony meeting. No one is interrupted while sharing, no preaching is allowed; everything said is in the "I" form and not the "you" form. After sharing the group leader gives some closing thought and a closing prayer is given. hope this helps harvey
  2. This was at a porn conference put on by meridian magazine, and unfortunatly he did not elaborate on the subject, just that this was such a huge problem, he had to deal with. The elite of Gods forces were plauged with this problem.
  3. I work in the Church's PASG program. I am very interested in statistics. these are the ones I know of that are credible. 40% of men addicted to porn will lose their spouse. the average age of exposure to internet porn is age 11. 100% of teens will be exposed to porn by age 18. 25% of all of the church's addiction recovery programs is for pornography addiction. At a conference in SLC a former mtc president said that 50% of all in the mtc have "had more than a casual exposure to porn." that is shocking to me, these are the ones that made it on a mission. Female addiction is on the rise, to be sure this addiction really sucks, I work in the program because I am a recovering addict.
  4. to Get a program in your area you need a bishop and a stake president. A stake pres requests a group be formed from the nearest lds family services. I have access to the form if you want it, or tell you how to access the form. You also are in need of a bishop as well , because it is he that will call 2 part time service missionaies to serve 6 months to 2 years to run the group. let me know if you need any more info on the program. harveyf
  5. No offence taken: I love the help out there, that is free. That way, I know that their are no other motives out there, but to help. Inner gold is probably a great program, I have not investigated it to the extent I want to. So far what I found out so far is that they seem to be good, but they are expensive, but so it LDS Family Services they charge 75.00 an hour. Here in Vegas where I live. The money either comes from the person or the ward. The addiction recovery program is free so I promote it as much as possiable. Another plug for free help is k-9 filter it is free and a commercial grade internet filter. I have learned from many books the chemicals in the brain that bind a man and a women together are so powerful and binding, and used for good keeps a husband and wife together. Misused and these same chemicals bind an addict to pornography. Satan always has a counterfiet ( crap no spellchecker) This addiction really sucks, but there is hope through the Atonement Best to all the addicts out there I am one of them harveyf
  6. I am a recovering addict. I am here to help people. The LDS church is true, the Prophet and the 12 Apostles, and the quarom of 70 is the sponser of the LDS addiction recovery program, it is the Lords AUTHORIZED program to help those afflicted with addictions. The program is FREE. The guide can be viewed and downloaded FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. THE GROUPS are FREE. They are presided over by duly called missionarys under the direction of the Priesthood. They can be found all over the us and other countrys. go to Addiction Recovery Support Groups and check it out for yourself. Check out my website before you accuse me of a commercial enterprise. I mentioned a book Clean Hands pure Heart, yes it probably cost money at the deseret book store, but I don't get any money from it, the book helped me, we used it in our pasg groups before the church came out with its own guide. If you look on my site there is NO place to send money there is no place that you can buy anything. Look before you bite
  7. I have been a porn and mast addict for over 35 years, it does not just go away. The great lies are that if I can make it on my mission I will be ok, or if I just get married so that sex is legal, I will be ok. All the normal things that Bishops say which are "just don't do that no more" Read, pray, attend church and do service you will be ok. Rarely does this addiction just go away, find Help ,there is alot of it out there the best are the church's pasg groups they are just for those with sexual addictions. Find the book clean hands pure heart and the church's addiction recovery guide. Or go to Home and there are alot of help there. Best to you harvey
  8. I am so sorry for your plight. You are not alone. Satan wants to wreck marriages and this is his best tool. My suggestion as a 35+ year porn addict is to trust the Lord and His Church. The Church has help available it is the ARP program and more specifically the PASG 12 step group. It is just for sex addicts. The group is ran under the direction of the Priesthood with missionaries called to be group leaders. I know how this program works. I have been a lifetime member and have been living a double life. One half as a porn addict and the other as a faithful latter day saint. I was the best most active member trying to do everything to pay for my secret sin. I found peace and my marriage was saved. there is another recovery group for porn addicts it is called a pasg group and ask to join and there is alot of information there and help. I have seen hundreds of people go thru the churchs program and have seen so many familys saved. I have a testimony of the Savior and the Atonement and the principals of the 12 step program the Church has adopted and made it its own. Get help for both you and your husband. You are not alone the Church's guide and meetings can be found at Addiction Recovery Support Groups good luck I hope you join our pasg group here on this site or find one in your area. All the best to you harveyf
