My second oldest daughter is almost 23yrs old now...however when she was about 8yrs old we built a house that we still currently live in. After we moved in we knelt down in family prayer one night and also dedicated our home. A few months later we had a terrible storm move thru the area in the wee hours of the morning. The tornado sirens were going off and it started to hail. Those who have been in areas where tornadoes hit know that hail and a tornado siren going off are not a good mix. My wife and I woke up and ran thru the house waking the other kids and dragging them to the basement. My daughter who was 8yrs old at that time says to me..."Dad...what are you worried about....nothing is going to happen....don't you remember you dedicated our home in prayer and said........a little later when we felt it was safe to go back to our rooms....my daughter says to me again....Dad I told you nothing was going to happen and you didn't believe me.....whats wrong don't you have any faith in the power of prayer!!!!..........

Thanks for sharing that Pam. Some very close friends of ours had a son who took his life several years ago. I believe the council they recieved from our Stake President was along the same lines possibly based on that talk. We all need to remember that God is a loving God.

the article in the church news says there was not a Church building in the town and that all the missionaries are safe.

There was an article in the most recent church News....you might try that. I do not believe there was any photos of the church buildings.

....here in our stake we use our Stake Youth Comm to find the music....when they catch on to this they are awesome.....because they know the words and can tell you why this is or isn't appropriate for a church dance.

And the Lord's church has separate rooms for separate purposes. I don't recall any dances being held in the chapel. They're held in the gym, or the "multi-purpose" room as it's called. How is having a dance in a church any less reverent than playing basketball in the church? They're not irreverent when in the appropriate room. That's why churches have "multi-purpose" rooms. I don't get your point??? Actually it's solar-powered and the sky has been overcast all week. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!................good one Crimson

Of course not. We should be careful of what music we allow to be played at such dances, but the whole point is to have fun and socialize. thats right....to socialize and have fun and make new friends....wow to get music for a Stake Dance is tough...you gotta be on your toes....LOL!!!!

my wife even tells me I am tiring......I think I resemble that remark.......hey folks.....when I started chatting in ldstalk or chat about 9 yrs ago....Pam was the first person I chatted with.....through that chatting I discovered she lives very close to my sister. My sister and her have talked a few times on the phone and in person and we have all met a few times when I was in utah. I have also chatted with Ben Raines from day one. I have not met him in person yet. I see nothing wrong with good natured ribbing. All I can say is deal with it.....

I thought I had heard that Decker was proven to be a fraud....the "story" he portrayed in the book was not true...... I'm so glad! It sounds like you don't let his awful words define you. I'm sure your relationship is complex, but he just sounds plain mean. I'm not rigidly opposed to the idea of a supreme being, but I don't believe in a god as outlined by any organized religion. There are aspects of the LDS religion that appeal to me, such as eternal progression. But the bottom line is, I have been the perfect Mormon, including the introspective fasting and prayer, and have felt absolutely no spirituality whatsoever. Sometimes this has happened during times of severe agony, with a contrite spirit and a broken heart, and I have felt...nothing. Moroni's promise seems to have failed me. Emma Hale Smith is a hero. Yet, the church, until recently, has treated her as a sort of shadowy figure, at least that's been my experience. While I was growing up in the church she was described as the love of Joseph's life, but then, by some unspoken code, we didn't talk about her any further. The reasons for this are complex and fascinating. I would love to discuss her if anyone is interested. If so, I'd start another thread. You're quite welcome. Where is your son, Pale? I know you guys will be so glad to talk to him. He is serving in Panama.....he will be home in July. It was great talking with him on Mothers Day.....even if he was having a tough time of remembering how to speak in English......LOL!!!!!!

Seriously John doe is a great brother in law. SHHHHH don't tell him I said so though. He has helped me in many ways. Example changing a fuel pump on my car in the middle of a parking lot in pouring down rain. He's great and I love him. But again. shhhhh don't tell him I said anything.
