  1. I went on a mission just over a year after I converted to the church. It wasn't something I thought of or planned to do for years. I didn't have the money to go. It was what Heavenly Father wanted. At first I fought it then I let his will not mine be done. Looking back I left such a lost depressed little girl and I returned a very strong spirited woman. I grew so much during that 18 months there are times I look back and don't know the person I was pre mission. I left knowing there was trouble at home (horrible trouble) but I knew that if I did my part Heavenly Father would do his and whatever happened at home it would turn out for the best. I went, my small Branch stepped in and helped pay. The troubles at home seemed for that time to ease. If you are truely called of God to serve then wait be patient! Remember Heavenly Father does everything in his own due time not ours. This seems like a long time to you but to him it just a blink of an eye. Be strong have faith and endure! Your life will so richly be blessed if you are patient and serve your mission well. Lacie
  2. On a side note... I've read in an old journal how one sister did her laundry (which is nothing like how we do it today) But she washed her whites first then her colors then last the work clothes etc. It was more in the line of what was the dirtiest. Course back then they didn't have fresh water for every load of laundry and many a load was washed in a boiling kettle of wash water. Laundry day was an ALL DAY event!!! Aren't we all thankful for modern washers!? Lacie
  3. Well #1 there isn't much dust to blow around unless we kick it up ourselves (we live in the middle of 60 acers at the end of a dead end road so not much traffic ) #2 The yard is grass so that helps keep dust down #3 when it is dead still then no dust blows and when it is windy the dust that blows blows right off. #4 I always give my laundry a good Snap when I take it off the line then put it in the basket and I have yet to see dust. lacie
  4. We wash whites with whites and most of the time underwear is it's own load. We don't have a dryer so we hang our clothes out on the line of course we live in the country at the end of a dead end road. Our whites seem to stay white longer than they did back when we had a dryer.
  5. We just gave up TV when our 12yr old set died. It has made a lot of difference in our lives. We are getting more stuff done and we are saving 30 bucks a month that would go to the cable guys. We watch "our" shows on the internet and use the computer to play a DVD every great once in a blue moon. I thought we would miss the TV cause up until it died it was on nearly 24/7 but the past few months have really been nice. Lacie
  6. Well considering that that was in 1992 and the fella is now dead it would be hard to get together with him to work on it... The thing that up set me was he worked up the line and not down. I don't care how dang thorough you want to be it really isn't cool when you do work for people who have living relatives who might want to do the work. My mom (a non-member) was furious with him! She felt like her parents, brother and grandparents had been violated! Which really wasn't cool. Anyway This guy was distant enough that he was barely related. Lacie
  7. Well I haven't read all the way through this thread yet but I felt the need to just say that I'm one of the many who joined the church and then upon researching my direct line I found that some way way distant cousin had done not only my great grandparents on my mothers side but my grandparents and an uncle who had died in the late 80's just a month before I started doing my direct line! I was fit to be tied and very upset with the person. I'm glad that they were done but I have always felt ... well... cheated!! They were mine to serve not his I knew them he didn't. To him they were just names to me they were beloved members of my family. Lacie
  8. Well I understand that but that said at the time he was the leader and prophet of the church. I'm not certain that non members would buy that as an excuse. A true prophet is a true prophet and when he says something where Thousands of people can here him say it then well doctrinal setting or no it might as well have been, Besides if the prophet said it then he truely believed it to be so and who would know the doctrine better than the prophet?? Lacie
  9. OHHHHH I Love black licorice!!! It is not at all obnoxious!! I get the good "real" stuff from the health food store. The stuff you buy in the grocery store is nothing but sugar and artificial flavor.
  10. The sirens are the worst and best part of the storm! You wake up frightened and try to figure out where it is, if you are indeed safe or in danger and until you find out where it is your pleading with God that it isn't heading for you. But the good side is you wake up and get the chance to take cover so that you will be safe. Since the Feb 5th 2009 F4 that plowed thru over a hundred miles without leaving the ground even once, many people I know nearly freak out the instant the sirens go off. I get a brief ice cold feeling myself. I hope churchmouse is in the dry tonight...
  11. If I remember correctly I think I recall President Hinckley telling I think it was Larry King that as members we don't drink caffenated sodas (DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THIS!!!! I COULD BE WRONG!!) I drink water, goat milk (fresh from the goat...Well chilled first), various juices (the tarter the better I'm with the plain grapefriut and cranberry guys), koolaide sweetened with stevia, hebal teas and coffee substitute, and an occassional caffiene free diet coke. I hate hot chocolate with a purple passion! Lacie
  12. Whithin the past 2 yrs members in my ward alone have endured a strong F4 Tornado, 2 100yr floods, All time record breaking snow storms, and A record breaking Ice storm that took down, topped or damaged what looks like EVERY VISABLE TREE across many counties! We nervously joke about whats next. With all this wood down everywhere all it would take is a dry summer and a match and we could have massive forest fires on our hands and there is always talk about how we are do a BIG earthquake...
  13. My husband suffered a brain injury a little over 2 years ago. As a result he as changed in so many ways. He is not the person he was previous to the injury his likes and dislikes changed, his mannerisms changed, HE CHANGED. But that said I have seen proof that his "soul/spirit" is still there and still very much the same one I loved all these years. WE are each spirit children of our Heavenly Father. Our spirit doesn't cease to exist just because our mortal body changed. It evolves as we grow and change in this mortal life. Lacie
  14. HUH??? I'm a little lost here? Lacie
