  1. There is a difference between being commanded and being advised. Often the confusion comes when our leaders advices us over something. There are many theories as to why the Lord chose His Saints to abstain from these things, in the end it’s simply down to obedience. If you want a common element in the list of things we should not take into our bodies and you will find that they are all potentially fatal. Hot Drinks was the original command later clarified as tea and coffee. At the time of the revelation the only way to get the most flavour out of the tea and coffee was to drink it scolding hot. This practice resulted in some cases of cancer of the gullet. Caffeine seems to be the one most people and members adopt as the reason because the potential it has to lead to fatal side effects, like high blood pressure. If we want to obey the Lord continually then its easy to first follow His anointed. The Word of Wisdom was first given to the Saints as a directive and because the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak the Lord upgraded it to a commandment. Until He says to abstain from caffeine then I'll take it under advisement.

  3. JonnyRudick, naughty, naughty, the rule is the song must start with the last word of the previous song title.
  4. It is not the questioning, is good to ask questions. But if you want evidence that God exist, if you want to know that Moses wrote the four books in the bible you first must accept who God is, what He represents and what His plan is for us. If you don't then you will waste your time tooing and frowing from one subject to another leading you nowhere. One day everybody will know without doubt that God exist and Jesus is the Christ. For some it will be a glorious event for others a time of great fear and trepidation. What will it matter then? Those that except God without seeing Him see the evidence of Him all around, feel His presence, talk to Him continually and receive His guidance. He talks in a still small voice, He talks through the Scriptures and He talks through His prophets what more evidence of His reality do we need. This is the real key to getting answers to your questions
  5. If I might answer this, Maxel, the proof does exists, its been there since Adam was a lad, sort of hidden in plain view. The problem is nobody can show you where it is because it requires something that can never happen in someone demanding evidence and that is humility. You see there are those who think they are better than God because they think they no longer need Him. Basically if a sceptic wants evidence he first must stop being a sceptic, if you understand what I mean, which is impossible and why they cannot see what’s in plain view. Hope this helps
  6. Ok Jim, let’s get you some important facts it might just save your soul. The law as it is laid down states that in order to get back in the presence of our heavily Father we must be perfect. Perfection is without blemish, without sin. Commit just one minor indiscretion and the way home is blocked. This means that none of Fathers children could be save because it would be impossible for mortal man not to sin. Jesus Christ lived that perfect life, without blemish, without sin. He fulfilled the demands of justice, overcame death, was reunited with his dead body and glorified. Now because of Him and the atonement He says now do the best you can always striving to be perfect. If you fall and sincerely repent you can have hope in Him. All worthy followers of Christ He will advocate for. Those who truly follow Christ will want to get to know him and obey his commandments. They will seek out His church, they will strive for as high as they can go. Throughout history God has had a covenant people and still has. Sometimes because of apostasy He will raise other people and graft them into the Abrahamic covenant. One common element of God covenant people is that they build temples. These are buildings that represent His house on heaven. Because they are so sacred those that enter must be living a basic law acceptable to God. Striving to be perfect is a minimum requirement. We can never achieve perfection because we have sinned but we can strive to be as close to perfection as it is possible. If all that we can do is acceptable to God then mercy comes into play. Then he will make up the difference. Hope this helps

  9. Ok, some people ought to be fictional writers because if any of this that has been quoted here were true then a book and movie deal is most certainly on the cards. If the actually desire to know the REAL truth about church policy on tithing, temple work etc exists here then I'm sure any genuine LDS subscribing to this thread will be more than pleased to enlighten any desirable seeker.
  10. Praise the Lord. Mark Noll
  11. Anybody that puts their faith in the bible alone will fall short of its true message. Why do you think so much of the plain and precious things have been removed or altered. Some men want to complicate the word of God to elevate themselves above the unlearned and simple supposedly to bring them closer to God. Whereas the message contained within the bible is and should be plain and simple. One tries to change man from without with whatever the imagination can conjure up but the latter changes us from within. When the work of God is completed then He will send His Son a second time but in power and glory to gather the righteous and destroy the wicked. This is what the bible foretells and the Book of Mormon gives second witness too. It all points to the latter days. We can debate points of interest until the dawn finally sets for the last time but unless the discussion brings us to this understanding in preparation it is futile and does little more than put us in to the hands of Satan.
  12. Away in a manger --John McFarland (after the first two verses)
  13. Everything bad that happens to man was because he moved far enough away from Father that His influence was no longer felt and every attempt to call them back fell on deaf ears. Gods knows the beginning from the end He also knows each of us individually and our strengths and weaknesses and our political persuasion. The Earth is a living thing able to be commanded through the priesthood. Like every living thing it needed to be born, grow, be baptized, die, be resurrected and glorified. The only real difference is the earth has no choice. Adam was organised from the dust and water of Earth, Eve was taken from his side and together new life was able to come forth. Mankind has the ability to produce as many tabernacles as is needed what he does not have is the power to put the spirit in the body, that is God's domain. So the souls that came to earth up to flood were thus assigned by an all seeing all knowing Deity. Just like the souls that come forth now are those reserved for these latter days likewise those that preceded us came when the conditions were right for them. Everything that has happened to man happened to set a president to teach and helps him grow. None of this changes our free agency but if we can overcome our natural selves the blessing will be heavenly.
  14. One of my favourite meetings in church is Fast & Testimony. To be able to listen to people stand up for what they know to be true is a wonderful thing. Of cause there are those that want to talk about things unrelated to a testimony but would we miss them if they were to stop? However without exception the testimonies bourn that have the most profound spiritual meaning to me are of those from members that have been inactive or are currently inactive. Despite not being subject to the full measure of blessings those that are in full activity receive they still have a sweet understanding that Lord is real and this is His is church on Earth. While it was a man that delivered the message of the gospel to me knowing that I was being told the truth came from Spirit;. Your testimony is much appreciated know that you have done some good today;).
  15. Actually you are right it was bad advice because it could only ever happen in theory, nobody really cares about the rebel no matter how it came about. The sad thing is that there are so many with bad experiances like the ones you mentioned one might wonder why.
  16. While this is probably not what you want to hear but if you desire to move the church then simply go inactive, put your tithing in a holding account and plead with the Lord continually. It might take some time but you will be sure to get their attention. This is not advice that I in any way feel comfortable with but sometimes drastic measures are needed to let leaders understand that while they are only human and have calls on their time, like work and family plus other member problems they have been given the keys to cope with it. No matter how green they are it is not their church but the Lords and if He was here you'd get his attention. Just like these leaders get His support.
  17. Every group of people the Lord involves himself in are required to do or practice something that is deemed unusual by the world. With mormons there are a few but to name two The Word of Wisdom for all members and Temple Garments for all endowed members.
  18. That was Harrison Ford not Mel Gibson that played the cop in Witness.
  19. Here another nice example of prayer for those that find it hard to commnicate with their God: Every night Fred would get down on his knees and say a simple prayer, 'hello Jesus its Fred, Amen' This went on day after day, week after week, year after year, one simple sincere little prayer. Then in his old age Fred became ill and was unable to prayer that night the first time in 70 years. Then Fred felt his matress move and suspecting someone had sat down beheld a personage and the Being smiled at him and said. Hello Fred it is Jesus.
