  1. Not a word about it in Walla, which gathers reports from all the papers.
  2. No. There is no such language as Reformed Egyptian. People need to take another look at the BoM. Besides, what does the modified Egyptian script used by Mormon have to do with the BoA?
  3. And those are real curse words. Damn you means may you be checked in your spiritual progress you. To hell with you means you don't want someone saved. The f word is a mere vulgarity. Swearing would be like saying By G-d!
  4. We don't know what Mary's lineage was. The whole thing about the genealogy in Luke being Mary's is a nice sentiment, but really has little to support the notion.
  5. Da, deystvitelno tut chudesa: tut leshiy brodit, Rusalka na vyetvyax sidit...
  6. I don't know about the curse actually happening, but curse words are not what we think of as 4 letter words, but are meant as curses.
  7. And if your privacy is such a big deal, why don't you use a nomme de plume?
  8. I thought you said you didn't charge anyway.
  9. Not revealing your true identity does not safeguard you from viruses. So you find it infinitely less tedious to pose as a third party and praise your own work?
  10. It may be a common thing, but it is a dishonest thing if you try to promote your own work without revealing that you are the author. I post on writing and book forums, the sort of thing you did is always looked down upon.
  11. I'm going to have to do more research into scribal practices of neighbouring cultures, because there is so little information available from Judah itself. Woman's life could be summed up in a later Arab song. By my father's life! By my fathers life! I don't want the poor man! He wakes me up early in the morning and says, He wakes me up early in the morning and says, "Prepare the lentils!" By my father's life! By my father's life! I want the rich man! He wakes me up early in the morning and says, He wakes me up early in the morning and says, "Knead the dough in oil!"
  12. When the family ate together, they ate together. No segregation. Technically, yes, but not always so in practice. We don't know that there was such a concept of a Torah education like there was later on. Quite young, I imagine. In talmudic times education began at 5. Probably. Fairly unusual for them to have even one in a school. Scribes also tended to be relatives. I doubt it. They did get some sort of education at least in talmudic times, but I'm not sure exactly what this entailed.
  13. 1) Yes, though not all are endowed. Happened to one of the elders on my mission, because of visa problems. 2) No. I know plenty of missionaries who weren't. 3) Trousers aren't supposed to be worn to church services, it is just easier to enforce rules on missionaries. 4) The only things one shouldn't film are ordinances such as baptism. Before and after the actual baptism, you can. 5) About halfway through my mission was when we recieved cellphones, worldwide. A most useful tool. 6) Missionaries are given an allowance. They use it to buy food. 7) Certain missions may require a driver's licence, but exceptions can be made. My mission was entirely walking or public transportation. Not even bicycles. 8) Yes. we recieved some assistance, and in most parts of the world, this is the case. The church does want the individual or their family to contribute something, a steady sum of some sort if at all possible. 9) Only a missionary email account, though exceptions can be made. Internet use is limited to one hour weekly. 10) 25 or 26 for males, BUT exceptions are readily made for converts. In many cases this holds true for people who left the church as well (though not if one was excommunicated).
  14. IMHO much of it was, too frazerian, but that was the academic style he grew up in. He certainly was not dishonest.
  15. I think that Revelation is reflecting the Jewish tradition that there was silence throughout the whole world and the heavens just before the trumpet blast at Mt Sinai.
  16. I'm surprised nobody brought up the first 24 verses of D&C 76. They answer the question in the OP.
  17. Nobody has really answered the question about the land, so I'll give it a shot. The land was important for Abraham's POSTERITY to have a place to live, where they were in charge and could live and worship as they aught.
  18. Your economy is fine. It may not be doing as well as some people are accustomed to, but you've still got it good.
  19. I'll post a little something on the meaning of Jacob's ladder.
  20. I don't see goodly as refering to wealth, mainly because neither in Hebrew (the word tob) nor in the KJV is it used to denote wealth, but to denote quality. Here is what good could mean in 1820s America:
  21. There is a paucity of records, isn't there?
  22. Are you thinking of developing the area with LDS tourists in mind? Certainly seems like that. Edit to add: You aren't Omar Bin Ahmad Abdullah Mahfoud Al Shaikh with the Dhofar International Development and Investment Holding Company, are you?
  23. First I've heard of that. It is considered a sacred letter by virtue of appearing in God's name (and twice), but I haven't heard that it specifically means covenant with God.
