  1. Yes. Here and elsewhere. Hence my skepticism from the beginning. That combination of questions wasn't random; at all.
  2. Drive-by "witnessing" under false pretenses - that's my educated guess.
  3. You are remembering correctly. But, I'm not sure I understand what your point might be with stating this fact.
  4. Now THAT would be impressive!
  5. True, not "all". But there were some, undoubtedly. Several of them testified (under oath) in affidavits regarding their "marriages" to Joseph Smith in an early legal dispute between the Church and the RLDS.
  6. That's the mystery. Very little evidence; a lot of speculation, and the only verifiable descendants are through Emma.
  7. Again, you should start by reading these - FAIR Topical Guide: Polyandry
  8. Interestingly enough, a couple of those "marriages" are post-1844. Small problem there. Nevertheless, most of them are not.
  9. Hmmm. Well, Joseph seemed to think it was for at least some period of time prior to his death. Now, undoubtedly, some of these sealings were dynastic and others were clearly a matter of attempting to provide a vital ordinance to certain women who might not otherwise be able to partake of the sealing ordinances (husband was a non-member, etc.). What is still not clear (IMO) today is what the purpose was of certain sealings in which the husband was an active and worthy member (see Orson Pratt here). Frankly, there are some unanswered questions regarding the early practices of sealings and polygamy and I am unsure there are even any records in existence which would clarify the matter.
  10. That it happened or that it is a correct practice now?
  11. What do you mean?
  12. Correct - polyandry. Zina Young (second President of the Relief Society) would be one of the more notable individuals to fall into this category in the early days of the Church.
  13. I'd take a look at these articles -FAIR Topical Guide: Polyandry
  14. One post in numerous hours. I will be curious to see if this was a genuine level of interest or not.
  15. I know...I just thought I'd look to see if I can find any clarification. Honestly, I'm aware of this traditional practice, but can't think of one good reason for it (doctrinal or otherwise).
  16. By the way...not to be picky, but the language we often use in the Church wherein we say "Take out our endowment..." is really not correct. The endowment is a gift we receive; it is not a "thing" we go grab of our own will.
  17. That "25" age seems arbitrary. I'm personally aware of single women who have received their endowment without getting married or going on a mission. IMO, this is more "practice" or "tradition" than it is doctrinal. I can check my copy of the CHI this weekend, but I can't recall any mention of this age being a restriction.
  18. Here's the Link to donate to the Church's efforts - https://secure3.convio.net/ldsp/site/Donation2?df_id=1861&1861.donation=form1&s_src=14703
  19. Then don't go....that's what sends the real message. Are you suggesting that "two wrongs make a right", or that "eye for an eye" is appropriate?
  20. Very well said. In my opinion, sneaking food in when it is known to be against the business' policies is just plain dishonest.
  21. X2 on this. I check it once a day for any new pictures. My last two laptops (including my newest one) have run screen resolutions at 1920x1200 and the Interfacelift site been the best place to find some stunning stuff.
  22. I found this paper helpful - http://www.fairlds.org/pubs/polyandry.pdf
  23. My username - first initial and last name...I know...I get all kinds of style points for creativity. My avatar is just the logos from the two schools from which I graduated...I know...more creativity...what can I say? I am an accountant after all.
  24. I'm not a fatalist...somethings just happen. We are placed into a world in which we experience some events which are specifically designed for us individually, but much of what we experience (IMO) is just part of the flows of life. To the extent that there is a "reason", it is that we are to be tried in all things - both those tests which were prepared specifically for us, and how we react to those things which were not.
  25. X2 - I received an iPod Touch for my b-day a year ago and absolutely love that little device now. Music, podcasts, contacts, scriptures, priesthood manual...all right there on that thing. I'm a big fan.
