  1. I had the same issue today with windows 7 and running both Firefox and IE browsers. I was able to tab through all the entries and finally was able to fill out my username and request a new password, but it was very annoying.
  2. Before my Dad got CPAP therapy my mom started sleeping with earplugs. Now, she can't sleep without earplugs even when my dad is away or hasn't come to bed yet and even though he doesn't snore as much with his CPAP machine. Ultimately your husband needs to treat the condition. He should be wearing/using his CPAP machine. Most people with apnea that don't wear their masks don't understand the risks they are putting themselves under without the masks. Every apnea event is literally the body stopping breathing and hoping the nervous system, heart, brain, etc... kicks the body awake enough to start breathing again. The longer apnea goes untreated, the harder and harder it can be for the body to kick start itself. It is a condition that can and will kill people that don't take is seriously enough and it usually manifests itself in a heart attack because the heart just can't do enough to kick the body awake anymore. Good luck.
  3. The problem is the models. It was recently reported in the same reports on the temperature plateaus that the models predicted there would be almost no ice caps in 2013. This year the ice caps are the largest they have been since we have been keeping records on their size (30 year IIRC). I know a fair bit about mathematical models and in any model there are a number of variables that must be tuned in order to get the model to accurately predict the outcome. If you don't tune the model correctly, the input will not reflect reality. Hence the models 15 years ago predicting rising temperatures and no polar ice caps today. The problem is, over the last 15 years or so, as the models have become better, they can't factor in the largest variable of them all, the water content in the atmosphere. This variable is so hard to estimate, or predict how it will change over time. This is the single biggest factor for the models being essentially garbage. When the models can't predict the weather accurately over the next 2-3 weeks, how can they predict the weather in 10-20-30 or even 50 years? Elder Lund wrote a great book in the early 70's called "The Coming of the Lord" where he has a chapter devoted to how, in previous times, any time there was a natural disaster, flood, drought, etc... the people took it as a sign to repent. He predicted that as the world became more wicked, they would stop looking to these events as signs from God, but rather calamities brought upon themselves due to their own doing. And if brought upon them by their doing, then they could correct them by their doing rather than turning to God and repenting. Obviously he states is way better than I can, but I read that and instantly knew that what he was saying fit the bill of the global warming crowd. Should we take better care of the Earth? Yes. But it's the height of arrogance to think that man can influence one tiny bit the ebb and flow of this Earth and what God has created. Who is to say that the temperature of the Earth today is the optimal temperature. What if the earth's natural state is warmer? It's been much warmer before there was "carbon emissions". One volcano puts out more carbon "emission" than all of the "emission" that man has created for over a decade. I see global warming as one of man's tower of babels, trying to put themselves on par with God, at least for those that truly believe in it. Most that espouse the global warming hoax are in it for the money and control and know there is nothing man can do to prevent it.
  4. It use to be that if you were ever divorced you couldn't serve as a Bishop either. I don't know if this is still true or not.
  5. I have a lot of good friends in the Dubuque ward and there are some fantastic people in that ward. I love the saints in Iowa, there are so many great people who can answer any of your questions and no matter your decisions on joining the church or not, they will always be your friend. Good luck in your search. For Joshk, I use to go to the Waverly branch and am now down in Muscatine via the Ottumwa ward. Having lived in Waverly I know a fair number of the members in the Waterloo area so we probably bumped into each other at some point. Edit - I didn't read down far enough as I see you are now baptized. Congratulations!!! You are in a fantastic ward with wonderful people.
  6. About a decade ago I attended a ward outside of Seattle where my sister-in-law and her family lived. During the opening song my BIL leaned over to me and asked if I knew who was leading the music. I didn't and he then told me it was the lady who wrote the song "Popcporn Popping". She didn't have any bodyguards that I could see.
  7. The head gasket blew on my minivan in the mountains of Colorado this summer on a boy scout high adventure. The only town within an hour had one mechanic. I had to leave 3 days after dropping it off due to the schedule with the rest of the scouts. This poor guy was just opening up his shop, and had never worked on my model of minivan. Long story short, I spent 3k at his place and the van still didn't work right. I spend another 2k once I got home to find out he didn't get the timing exactly right and pinched several wires on the engine wiring harness while putting the engine back together. I was pure out of luck. I pushed the guy to get the work done so I could leave when I needed to. The sad part is, the van isn't worth more than 3k and now other stuff is starting to go on it. Oh well, it's paid for, it runs great again, and at least for the time being I don't have another car payment. This stuff just happens and there really isn't much use in getting mad or angry because in the end, life has a way of working out.
  8. Investigator, it may sound harsh to say that God has given all authority to one church, because in fact God does love us all, but God is a God of order and if every church had a bit of authority, who would be fully acting under the direction of God? This is how I like to think of the authority question. I work for a global company. I can not, without the permission of the CEO go out and build a new factory in the name of the company. It isn't going to happen. I don't have the authority. It doesn't mean I don't mean well. It doesn't mean I don't have the money to do so (I really don't, but imagine I did), but without the authority of the CEO I can do nothing in the name of the company. The company must protect its name, it must protect its brand, it must protect its assets and finances and this excludes anyone from acting in the name of the company without express authority given by the company itself. This is similar to how God acts. Like it or not, he is a God of order and he has established a means for "building his factories" or kingdom if you like. Imagine if anyone could build a factory, or dealer or showroom, etc... and slap the name of my company on it. Where is the credibility, where is the backing of the full faith and integrity of the company, or God in this case. To me, this is one of the biggest deceptions that Satan whispers in our ear, that God doesn't really care how we get to him, as long as we are doing good. This is false. God has set a clear pattern of what we must do to return to him and that path can only be bound in heaven when it is bound on earth by those God has given the authority to do so. What it comes down to is gaining a testimony of this line of authority. Quite frankly it doesn't matter if you have concerns with this issue or not, if this is how God operates, then that is how he operates and it is you that need to bend your will to his. Only he can tell you and that is why you need to pray and ask about it and then follow through with the promptings you receive. You may have already asked in prayer on this topic and haven't received an answer yet, but I would encourage you to have faith and put your trust in him. Test the pattern that God has used throughout the scriptures. For those churches that claim authority besides ours, trace that line back to where they believe they first got the authority and ask God if their line of authority is from him. For us, that would be praying about Joseph Smith and asking if he was a prophet and given the authority. In the end, reasoning it out in your head won't work, unless you couple that reasoning with the guidance of the Spirit in a true, honest, sincere desire to find the truth. Good luck.
  9. I served my mission in Italy in the mid 90's. One of the best resources for learning the language was the book you got in the MTC. I now have a job where I need to learn French. I will be using Rosetta Stone, provided by work, but I want to learn the grammer and verbs and the MTC books were great for laying this foundation. Anyone know where to find these books? I checked ebay, craigslist, you name it. Any ideas? Any recommendations on a good French grammer book if I can't find an MTC book?
  10. I had a problem with my branch president that did similar "funny" things during sacrament meeting and in how he conducted the affairs of the branch. I was his counselor and didn't feel comfortable with what he was doing and it was really getting to me. The BP basically said he had all authority in the branch to do "as directed by the Spirit" and that was that, even if the his counselors didn't feel the same way. After talking with my father who was a bishop on the left coast at the time I decided to ask my Stake President for a meeting. In that meeting I told the SP I was having hard feelings towards my BP and asked him for advice on how to overcome the feelings. In the process of the discussion, it came out what was causing the feelings. The SP told me I had done the right thing in coming to him and in how I presented the problem as my problem and not the BP's problem. While he didn't say my BP was in the wrong, he said he would have to have a talk with him. He gave me counsel that I will NEVER forget and it was a very enriching experience. I moved not to long after, but hearing from friends in the branch, things eventually improved.
  11. It was said earlier in the thread that Glenn has been more serious lately, with less laughing and joking. I have noticed this for the last several years. While not a devout listener as I only get maybe an hour a week in, I think Glenn is doing much good at bringing the discussion of God and spirituality back into the public discourse. For me, I noticed Glenn's shift from Islam and the war on terror to internal matters and spiritual matters about 2 and half years ago. Interestingly enough this shift was right after he related a story about going to SLC for one of his shows and being asked to meet with some of the Apostles. He talked about it on his show a bit after that happened, and how he never dreamed he would be called in and talked to by the church leadership and what an amazing experience it was. Keep in mind, it wasn't the enemies of the Nephities that brought down their nation, it was the internal crumbling of their spiritual state and the secret combinations from within. Could it be that Glenn had this awakening? I don't know if that awakening was around the time of his meeting, but he sure shifted quickly from looking without to examining within. I find it interesting that some of his harshest, and nastiest critics are those of his brothers and sisters in the gospel.
  12. We just went through this in our ward where we only have about 5 active elders and 10+ active HP and of the 3-4 active elders, 2 of them are in YM and one is a primary teacher (where his skills, patience, and abilities, will keep him for some time). As a measure of last resort I was called as the EQ president. I was told I could not call any HP to be a councilor so I called the only remaining active elder as a councilor. We combine our Sunday classes, and have a HP group. Technically, a HP is an office in the Priesthood and it's office deals with officiating in the Church, which is why you must be a HP in order to be in the Bishopric, High Council, Stake Presidency, etc... And no, a HP is NOT apart of the EQ, they are apart of the HP Quorum. The HP quorum is made up of all the HP in the stake and the Stake President is the President of the HP quorum. They are required to have two HP quorum meetings a year. A HP group is made up of members of the Stake HP Quorum in a ward. Think of a HP quorum like a Priest Quorum, where the group leader is similar to the 1st assistant in the Priest Quorum. Also, a HP (other than the Bishop, Stake President) do not hold keys, only an Elders Quorum President. Several years ago, before I moved into this ward, they had Priesthood Group, where an Elder and HP were apart of the presidency and they could not be called an Elders Quorum and the president couldn't hold keys.
