  1. Please watch, rate and comment on this video. Many people ask "Are Mormons Christians?" In two minutes, this video clearly outlines what we believe about Jesus Christ. Please share this, and e-mail it to friends, family and ward members. The last video (Elder Holland) that we all shared now has gotten nearly 45,000 views in just 3 weeks! For a period of time, Elder Holland's video was the #1 video on Youtube for Mormon, Mormons, and Mormonism. Please help us achieve the same ranking with this video.
  2. Mormon LDS Leader, M Russell Ballard spoke about the limited practice of polygamy some 117 years ago in the Mormon Church. He then speaks about Mormon families and how important the family unit is to Mormons.
  3. I've read through this entire thread and have yet to find anything out of line. In fact, works on LDS.org are far more detailed than this. Maybe you should read through some of these: LDS.org - Ensign Article - Permanent Press: The Fabric with a Memory LDS.org - Topic Definition - Temples LDS.org - Liahona Article - The Temple Garment: An Outward Expression of an Inward Commitment LDS.org - Optional Courses Chapter Detail - Preparing to Enter the Holy Temple More Good Foundation doesn't care about forum post numbers. What we care about is that accurate and true information about the Church is found. We do have boundaries of course, but I don't believe the way things have been discussed over-step that. I'm sure you haven't done a web search for "Mormon garments" or "Mormon underwear," as hundreds of thousands of people do each month. I'm sure it would surprise you that the #1 video on Youtube for both "Mormon garments" and "mormon underwear" is about a non-member going into the distribution center and buying some. I'm sure you would be quite shocked at the number of "bad" sites and "bad" information there is out there on this topic. You'd probably be shocked to know that people curious about our faith, even investigators of our faith, are finding these sites and taking them at face value. You'd also probably be shocked to know that there are several other really good sites out there, like Jeff Lindsay, that give accurate information like this thread does, without touching on sacred things. BTW, just because they're curious about it, doesn't make them anti-mormon. People see us in the locker room, people talk back and forth about different things Mormons do, and they become curious. If i was curious about something, first place I'm going is Google. You can't stop people being curious about it. You can't stop the antis from publishing images and content about it. I would rather someone stumble onto this site than an anti-mormon forum. I've read the moderator thread about this topic too, and they've handled everything appropriately. So that being said, if the purpose of this site and our goal to push the truth out there to the curious masses, in a way that is appropriate, and you don't agree with it, then I can delete your account. Please send me a PM on this site from your user account. I do not take requests to do this by email or phone, as that is the verification that you own the account.
  4. What quote by President Benson? I think it's really important to give children social interaction with other children.
  5. It's now the #1 video on youtube for the search term "mormon" WOW!
  6. A video of Elder Holland on YouTube was released yesterday and has become the 2nd most responded to video on ALL of YouTube today. That's huge. It has over 550 responses. It's also the #6 most discussed video in Nonprofits & Activism today with over 150 posts. There are new questions being posted on that video every 2-10 minutes. It would be wonderful if you could help respond to all these questions. Heather
  7. Ah ha! So the new header enticing guests to join, finally reeled in one of the lurkers :) Welcome to the site, officially.
  8. There is a new group on YouTube for Mormons to keep updated on things they can do to shine a better light on the Church on YouTube. It's called Mormons United: YouTube - Mormons United. Please join, and ask other Mormons on YouTube to join too. I think this would be a good place for those who are on YouTube to communicate with each other on areas that need our help. This can also be used as a video release area, to let all Mormons on YouTube know when a new video has been published, so video creators can have instant support. I see the number of Mormons on YouTube significantly increasing after the July Ensign issue. Imagine the impact we could have if we all joined together in one place and made a solid effort to have our voices heard? There is also a group for those who are creating videos or need help on how to create videos for YouTube. You can join Mormon Directors here: YouTube - Mormon Directors.
  9. Wow, this video is now #3 for the search term "mormons" and #10 for "mormon." Pretty cool when it's surround by other videos that have hundreds of thousands of views.
  10. This video is one in a series of videos The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released to better inform the public about differences between the worldwide church based in Salt Lake City and the polygamous group in Texas that calls itself the FLDS.
  11. Echo....echo.....echo
  12. Wish I could make it. We've had family things planned for awhile now for tonight
  13. Had anyone else commented on this since I made that last post?
  14. It's back down the list again. I think it dropped because they closed the comments on it. They have opened the comments back up though. Can everyone take a minute and add a comment and rating to the video?
  15. This video just hit #1 for the search term "mormon" on youtube. Just amazing! I wondered if we would ever see a good mormon video in the top spot. Thanks to everyone who forwarded that video along and supported it. Keep up the good work so it will stay there.
  16. Cool :) My husband proposed to me on the Brig o' Doon.
  17. We need to teach our people to find their answers in the scriptures….But the unfortunate thing is that so many of us are not reading the scriptures. We do not know what is in them, and therefore we speculate about the things that we ought to have found in the scriptures themselves. I think that therein is one of our biggest dangers of today. Harold B. Lee, “Find the Answers in the Scriptures,” Ensign, December 1972. p.3 There is no question---personal or social or political or occupational—that need go unanswered. Therein is contained the fullness of the everlasting gospel. Therein we find principles of truth that will resolve every confusion and every problem and every dilemma that will face the human family or any individual in it. Boyd K. Packer, “Teach the Scriptures,” Address to Religious Educators, 14 Oct. 1977, p. 5 May I admonish you to participate in a program of daily reading and pondering of the scriptures….The Book of Mormon will change your life. It will fortify you against the evils of our day. It will bring a spirituality into your life that no other book will. It will be the most important book you will read in preparation for a mission and for life. A young man [or young woman] who knows and loves the Book of Mormon, who has read it several times, who has an abiding testimony of its truthfulness, and who applies its teaching will be able to stand against the wiles of the devil and will be a mighty tool in the hands of the Lord. Ezra Taft Benson, “The Youth of the Noble Birthright,” Ensign, May 1986, pp. 43-44 I note your remarks in relation to reading the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants, and I heartily approve of your views. No man can be an efficient missionary of this church unless he is familiar with these books. And the more familiar he is with them, the more capable will he be to discharge the duties of his ministry. Indeed, I think sometimes that we neglect too much the advocacy of the Book of Mormon. In the early days of the church, it was the preaching of the Book of Mormon and the proof of its existence or coming forth, as found in the Bible, that made converts to the church. It was as necessary then to prove our authority by the Bible as it is now, but it seems to me that to show the world from the Bible that the Book of Mormon, or such a book as it is, was to come forth in the latter days, is a strong argument for our cause. It is a great mistake to set aside or ignore the word of God as revealed in the latter days in preaching this gospel to the world. Of course it is not always wise to feed the people with strong meat at first, but one of the foundation stones of the church in the latter day is the revelation of the Book of Mormon and the restoration of the Gospel it contains, as also the visions and revelations given to the Prophet Joseph Smith. To be ashamed of these is to be ashamed of our ministry, to dodge these facts is to fail in the spirit of our ministry. In my opinion these things should be preached and then substantiated by the accepted version of the old Bible. Joseph F. Smith, From Prophet to Son: Advice of Joseph F. Smith to His Missionary Sons, compiled by Hyrum M. Smith III and Scott G. Kenney, p.70 Members of the Church everywhere should know the Book of Mormon better than any other book. Not only should we know what history and faith-promoting stories it contains, but we should understand its teachings. If we really did our homework and approached the Book of Mormon doctrinally, we could expose the errors and find the truths to combat many of the current false theories and philosophies of men, including socialism, humanism, organic evolution, and others. I have noted within the Church the difference in discernment, in insight, conviction, and spirit between those who know and love the Book of Mormon and those who do not. That book is a great sifter. Ezra Taft Benson, “Jesus Christ—Gifts and Expectations,” New Era, May 1975, p. 19
  18. I strongly encourage everyone to add lds9999 as your friend on YouTube. He's one of the main LDS guru's on YouTube: Click here: YouTube - lds9999's Channel and then add him as a friend by clicking the link in the left column. (You need to be signed into YouTube to add him.)
  19. I think this version that the three guys did is even better:
  20. MormonSoprano you're awesome :) I totally get what you're saying. I see both sides of it. It would've been nice to have an professional narration, but then I think the idea of using a completely non-traditional voice is the genius of the video.

    1 Nephi 1:20

1 Nephi 1:20 And when the Jews heard these things they were angry with him; yea, even as with the prophets of old, whom they had cast out, and stoned, and slain; and they also sought his life, that they might take it away. But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance. Quotes for Discussion Nephi’s Freedom Thesis All we have to do is to live up to the commandments of God, and we can destroy all the munitions. And there is no nation under the sun, today, or yesterday, or tomorrow that can touch us. Is that fanciful? Is that wishful thinking? Not if you believe in God. If you know that God lives, and that Jesus is Christ, and that they have the world and everything within their power, it is not fanciful. Spencer W. Kimball, The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, edited by Edward L. Kimball [salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1982], 159 Lincoln’s remarks following the victory of Gettysburg In the stress and pinch of the campaign there, I went to my room, and got down on my knees and prayed God Almighty for victory at Gettysburg. I told Him that this was His country, and the war was His war, but that we really couldn’t stand another Fredericksburg or Chancellorsville. And then and there I made a solemn vow with my Maker that if He would stand by you, boys, at Gettysburg, I would stand by Him. And He did, and I will! And after this I felt that God Almighty had taken the whole thing into His hands. Abraham Lincoln, Lincoln’s Life – Stories and Speeches, Selby, p.222 American, No Ordinary Country This America is no ordinary country. It is a choice land, "choice above all other lands." (1 Nephi 2:20.) It has a tragic and bloody past, but a glorious and peaceful future if its inhabitants really learn to serve their God. It was consecrated as a land of promise to the people of the Americas, to whom God gave these great promises: "It will be a land of liberty to its people." (2 Nephi 1:7.) "They shall never be brought down into captivity." (2 Nephi 1:7) "And there shall be none to molest them." (2 Nephi 1:9.) "It is a land of promise." (1 Nephi 2:20.) "It shall be free from all nations under heaven." "There shall be no enemies come into this land." "It shall be free from bondage." (Ether 2:12.) "There shall be no kings upon the land." (2 Nephi 10:11.) "I will fortify this land against all other nations." (2 Nephi 10-12.) "He that fighteth against Zion shall perish." (2 Nephi 10:13.) But these promises, glorious though they be, desirable as they are, can come only ". . . if they will but serve the God of this land who is Jesus Christ...." (Ether 2:12.) There is only one way. That infallible cure is simply righteousness, obedience, Godliness, honor, and integrity. There is no other cure. Mountains of arms and ammunitions will not guarantee safety, for enemies can also build fortifications and missiles and bomb shelters. If we would but believe the prophets! For they have warned that if the "inhabitants of this land are ever brought down into captivity and enslaved, it shall be because of iniquity; for if iniquity shall abound cursed shall be the land." (See 2 Nephi 1:7.) Elder Spencer W. Kimball, Conference Report, October 1961, Afternoon Meeting 30 O foolish men who think to protect the world with armaments, battleships, and space equipment, when only righteousness is needed!...Perhaps it is too simple for us to see. We look to foreign programs, summit conferences, land bases. We depend on fortifications, or gods of stone; upon ships and planes and projectiles, our gods of iron—gods which have no ears, no eyes, no hearts. We pray to them for deliverance and depend upon them for protection…like the gods of Baal. The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, p. 416 Tender Mercies See Elder David A. Bednar, “The Tender Mercies of the Lord,” Ensign, May 2005. I have occupied considerable space in referring to those peculiar circumstances which have attended me during life, and to sum the matter up it stands thus:--I have broken both legs—one in two places—both arms, my breastbone and three ribs, and had both ankles dislocated. I have been drowned, frozen, scalded and bit by a mad dog—have passed through several severe fits of sickness, and encountered poison in its worst forms—have landed in a pile of railroad ruins—have barely been missed by passing bullets, and have passed through a score of other hairbreadth escapes. It has appeared miraculous to me, that with all the injuries and broken bones which I have had, I have not a lame limb, but have been enabled to endure the hardest labor, exposures and journeys—have often walked forty, fifty, and on one occasion, sixty miles in a day. The protection and mercy of God has been over me, and my life thus far has been preserved; for which blessings I feel to render the gratitude of my heart to my Heavenly Father, praying that the remaining of my days may be spent in his service and in the building up of his kingdom. As told in Best-Loved Stories of the LDS People, ed. Jack M. Lyon, Linda Ririe Gundry, and Jay A. Parry [salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1997], 319

    1 Nephi 1:2-4

You've got me on that one.
  23. "lesbian couples will qualify for state funded fertility treatment." Wow! State funded fertility treatment? I'm not going to say anything. I'll just leave it at that.
