  1. A lot of times people don't log in until they see something that they want to respond to. Also, with all the content in the forums, often times people find a forum threads via Google, and aren't members of the site.
  2. Thanks everyone who made some great comments! It's been great to go through them. Again I encourage everyone to take a moment and add your thoughts to these blogs.
  3. Please visit each link, read the short blog message, and post a few comments. It will only take a few minutes, yet you can really help improve Internet content. Please remember to follow the guidelines below the links. Michael Otterson: The Resurrection: An Electrifying Moment - On Faith at washingtonpost.com Kathleen Flake: Little Boxes, Big Promises - On Faith at washingtonpost.com Richard Bushman: A Kind, Sane Voice for Openness - On Faith at washingtonpost.com Comment Guidelines Make a thoughtful comment. Sometimes the discussions that happen via comments are more interesting reading than the blog or article itself. Discussion is great. Comment spamming: great site etc doesn't add anything positive. Online arguments via the comment forum are just the worst publicity anti or pro. Comment flaming can be pretty rough and this does happen. It doesn't mean that you can't disagree or defend your beliefs. Do it with wisdom. Fueling hate is just not productive. Don't get dragged down with it. When typing in your comment you can sometimes put in a link to an LDS website, your blog, or other such sites is a great way of directing traffic to positive places. Subscribing is a great way of lifting site visibility. Copy the URL (web address) and paste somewhere in your comments.
  4. I've added the Resources link at the top of the page. Please everyone try your best to site a source with your responses, if so fitting. Thanks! :)
  5. Elder Nelson also has a really neat video about JesusChrist.LDS.org on YouTube. You can view it here:
  6. ldstalk.com was made in 1998, and before that it was actually a section on another site that a friend gave me some web space to use.
  7. WillowTheWhisp, Oh yes that's totally fine. I think we have a great opportunity to be able to state our beliefs, and then also back them up with scholarly sources. Combining these together could really make these forums a great resource to so many people on many different levels. skalenfehl, great idea. I think it would be better to make it even more prominent, and place it throughout the entire site, so it's accessible outside of the forums too. I see I took the "bookmark" link off the forum side, but on the main site, if you click on "bookmark" you get a drop down of all these bookmarking sites. I like the idea of replacing that with links to great resources like the ones everyone has been suggesting in this thread. I'll work on that.
  8. Ray, That is a great reference! Thanks so much for posting it.
  9. It's becoming very common these days for LDS.net members to post questions about The Church of Jesus Christ or Latter-day Saints. I wanted to post a reminder to everyone about the first rule of LDS.Net Do not post, upload, or otherwise submit anything to the site that is contrary to the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Do not post anything that is derogatory towards The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, its teachers, or its leaders. Anti-LDS Propaganda will not be tolerated anywhere. As this site grows and as curiosity in the Church continues to grow, we're going to see more and more questions from people who want to know more about the Church. Lets not to let ourselves get caught up in any arguments. There are a lot of people posting here who really do have good intentions. Our response to one person's post could give a lot of insight to an outsider wondering what Mormons are really like and what they really believe in. There is a great resource on the web: LDS FAIR Apologetics. They have pages and pages of information on numerous topics with answers to questions that are often posted here. They have a really good Wiki too. I encourage everyone who is answering questions about the Church to link to outside sources, such as LDS.org, Mormon.org, and FairLDS.org. Link to the specific page that is relevant to the topic at hand.
  10. Elder Russell M. Nelson Introduces JesusChrist.lds.org, a new website about the Savior Jesus Christ and tells why the Church has made this site.
  11. Jesus Christ, The Son of God The artwork is so beautiful. I'm so jealous. I want the rights! Dig it here: Mormon LDS Network: Mormon Chat, Forums, Beliefs, Blogs
  12. Kona, You're fine. :) I think you've established that you really are interested in what others have to say. I hope you can understand why people may have thought you were trolling in the beginning. I think that it's important that an LDS site allows friends of other faiths and beliefs to ask questions and find answers to what we really believe. There are plenty of sites out there (as you know) filled with lies. I for one am happy that members have a site like this where they can share what we really do believe.
  13. That's fine, but you haven't responded to any of the refutes to your claim he was a false Prophet. That’s why it seems to others on the board that you’re anti-Mormon, rather than you have been investigating the Church for a year. If that was the case, one would think that you’d want to seek further evidence of these claims.
  14. Sometimes I read posts like this and wish that I could've been in the same room and overheard the conversation. I'd love to have opened my big mouth on that one! But looks like Pammy didn't need anyone eaves dropping. I'm glad that you took a moment to seek out what LDS members really believe.
  15. Wow that's great Pushka! I"m really happy for you!
  16. That is exactly what the YouTube video shows. It's not a matter of getting stuck in an argument over garments. It's a matter of doing what we can to make sure that all those who want to find out things about the LDS faith do not only find the misconceptions and false information that is spreading rampantly through the Internet. The curiosity is there and the disgusting videos are there too. There is nothing we can do about that. It's nice to see a spark of light amidst all lies that the rest of the world is seeing about our faith. I for one think this film maker needs to be commended for his efforts. There's no way missionaries can do what they do now and shoulder the burden of finding. We're going to have to do the finding using new media. And then, because new media can't baptize, teach, convert, and testify, we're going to have to feed that funnel, the product of that funnel, to the missionaries so they can do what they do best. Wouldn't it be great if my grandson goes…on his mission…and gets to just teach nonstop because media and the Internet have finally picked up their rightful role and are funneling people who want to know. Scott Swafford, Media Director of the Missionary Department. LDS Newsroom Podcast. "Truth Restored" Campaign. © Intellectual Reserve. Oct 26 2007. There are a lot of people today who would like to know more about our faith but they are concerned about having their privacy invaded. They want to look at things in their own time and in their own way. They do not want to feel like they have any pressure…. We feel that the Internet and the privacy that it affords people is a wonderful way to do that…. There are a lot of people who are just not going to call a number…. But they will go to the Internet and look into it and we think that's happening on a significant scale. Elder Quentin L. Cook, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. LDS Newsroom Podcast. 17. This youtube video is excellent. Does a great job of explaining "Mormon Underwear." I wish there were more video makers like this on Youtube. YouTube - What is the magical Mormon underwear or garment? Make sure and leave him a comment and a rating.
  18. I definitely thought Elder Eyring would be 1st, but Elder Uchtdorf was someone I never suspected, yet I'm so excited he was called as 2nd councilor!
  19. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced this morning that the new prophet and president of the Church will be President Thomas S. Monson. His counselors are President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor, and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor. President Monson will serve as the 16th leader of the Church. He has served in the leadership of the Church for more than 44 years, including 22 years as part of the Church's governing First Presidency. Prior to being called as a Church leader, President Monson worked at the Deseret News and for the Newspaper Agency Corporation. President Monson has been married to his wife, Frances, for almost 60 years. The couple has three children and eight grandchildren. President Monson will turn 81 years old in August. ksl.com - President Thomas S. Monson named president of the LDS Church
  20. I'll have to go with Occam's Razor on this one. All these posts, and I still can't understand how God the father and Jesus Christ can be one in anything other than purpose.
  21. Really touching video: Glenn Beck - Faith & Inspiration - Glenn's Tribute to the late LDS President Hinckley
  22. President Hinckley has been the Prophet my entire adult life. He was called my senior year in high school. He has influenced my life more than any other Prophet has. The thing that I will remember most about him is his respect for all people and for members of all faiths. I will always admire his friendship and love for leaders of other faiths. He set such a great example for me, and that example is what I’ve always tried to follow when setting a direction for this site. I love his candor, his sense of humor, and his realness. He will be missed and always remembered.
  23. Here is a link to the LDS Newsroom. It also has three really good video clips: LDS Newsroom - Beloved Church President, Gordon B. Hinckley, Dies at 97
  24. "I hope that all of you will remember that on this Sabbath day you heard me bear my witness that this is God's holy work. The vision given the Prophet Joseph in the grove of Palmyra was not an imaginary thing. It was real. It occurred in the broad light of day. Both the Father and the Son spoke to the boy. He saw Them standing in the air above him. He heard Their voices. He gave heed to Their instruction. "It was the resurrected Lord who was introduced by His Father, the great God of the universe. For the first time in recorded history, both the Father and the Son appeared together to part the curtains and open this, the last and final dispensation, the dispensation of the fullness of times. "The Book of Mormon is all that it purports to be—a work recorded by prophets who lived anciently and whose words have come forth "to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations" (Book of Mormon title page). "The priesthood has been restored under the hands of John the Baptist and Peter, James, and John. All the keys and authority pertaining to eternal life are exercised in this Church. "Joseph Smith was and is a prophet, the great Prophet of this dispensation. This Church, which carries the name of the Redeemer, is true. "I leave you my testimony, my witness, and my love for each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen." President Gordon B. Hinckley April 1, 2006, Sunday morning session of the 176th Annual World General Conference LDS Newsroom - Testimony of President Gordon B. Hinckley
