This is the line from the Jewish article that confused me...

Ok, I read the KSL story, it is way different then what the Jewish article is saying. Maybe they (the Jewish writers) are reading more into it then the church intended?

I will have to look through it, but my first thought is, "Wow, they are spending a lot of energy and resources to discredit a fellow Saint and his theories." As if Meldrum is dangerous. If he is proven wrong and people lose their faith in the Book of Mormon because of it, they never really knew in the first place. Why is Meldrum's theory such a contentious issue for these folks? Have they devoted the same energy into looking into the theories of Lyn Hilton or other BofM scholars?

Perhaps, you could be more specific. Instead of accusing Meldrum and Porter of lying, share specifically what you feel is wrong in their work and refute it.

Your response is one of the reasons I recommend the book. It brings out the claws of people who don't subscribe to the North American model. A little contraversy never hurt a soul. :)

Seems the washed-up actors that can't find a good gig are always the loudest.

One scripture I have taken to heart is this... I believe we all have traditions and beliefs that are man made.

I believe the main mission of the life of Joseph Smith was to bring forth the Book of Mormon and restore the authority to baptize. I believe the Book of Mormon is the hidden treasure, the pearl of great price, of the Restoration. It restores proper knowledge of the Gospel and Doctrine of Jesus Christ and confounds the false doctrines floating around in Catholic and Protestant Christianity.

Like I stated earlier, I consider all members of the various Restoration (Book of Mormon believing) churches my brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. I don't have any specific denominational affiliation, I am just a follower of Jesus Christ. I am not here to bash your church. Like I said, I feel one of the tasks given to me is to build bridges of understanding and fellowship between the members of the various Restoration churches.

I believe a human being would have a spirit no matter how the body got here. I personally believe aborted and stillborn babies are "reassigned" (in the case of abortion) to another family or "resent" (in the case of miscarriage) to the same family. I have 2nd hand knowledge of a family that had a miscarriage years earlier then later had a child, one day the child said to his mother "I tried to come before, but something happened."

If the people who have visited here before have had experiences similar to mine, they have looked into the LDS Church (it was probably their first contact with the Book of Mormon). And after having looked into concluded that it teachings don't align with what they see in the Book of Mormon and Bible, so they seek out other options. I suppose your question would be similar to asking a Bible-Only Christian why they are not Catholic since it was originally the Catholic church that brought forth the Bible in its current form.

I love the book "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankel. In the book he concludes, while in a Nazi concentration camp, that even if everything is taken away you still have your agency, even if the only choice is to love your persecutors instead of hating them.

Nope, I just use the words found in the Book of Mormon and the term used by many people who have beliefs based on the experience of Joseph Smith.
