  1. FunkyTown nailed it, especially with #3.
  2. Nothings hotter than a women who can beat me at Super Smash Bros.
  3. I hope I am showing that I am truly interested in the Mormon POV to make my own decisions, rather than being a jerk. I just want truth.
  4. This topic reminds me of a stand-up I've seen. People nowadays seem to make their own religion. By this I mean they accept the majority of what they are taught, but they will not accept certain things. Usually things that directly effect their lives, which begs the question. How devote does one need to be to receive the gift of immortality/heaven? Does the Lord make exceptions of what the bible preaches?
  5. Welcome! I'm brand spanking new as well. I hope we both find what were looking for.
  6. I have always been heavy on politics, psychology, and sociology. Having read this thread I am very impressed by the responses. Do NOT base your opinions off a single news source EVER. Cross reference everything for the facts, and base your opinion off what truly went down and not off what the single sources conclusions are on the subject. Edit: Statistics, as someone already mentioned, are very easy to manipulate to support your opinion. Take the "statistic" that marijuana is supposedly a gateway drug, if the same question were asked for alcohol, cigarettes, prescription drugs, and coffee, weed would be far away from the gateway drug.
  7. I have also decided I'm going to attend some Mormon Church Services while I do this so I can delve myself into you're lifestyle/culture. I wanna get the full experience. Hopefully I can convince some of my friends to do this with me so I don't feel like a loner. Most of my friends are agnostics like me so their minds are open as well. Hopefully they wont be too busy.
  8. Wow, thanks soooo much guys. The elaborately constructed responses were on point and extremely detailed.
  9. I don't think you answered my question. The verse condemns any other gospel after the New Testament. Wouldn't that be the Book of Mormon?
  10. Thanks for the welcome. I've decided to take on the task and read all the scripture so I can understand the whole story. Once I'm done expect a LOT of questions.
  11. "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!" - Galatians 1:8 I saw someone quote this. Was wondering if it's accurate, and if so what is the Mormon rebuttal to it. Thanks. Edit: Sorry for the misspelling in the title.
  12. Awesome, so I can read everything from that link? Sweet, thought I was gonna have to go find a LDS Church tomorrow.
  13. Lol, no it's not. I just like poking at specifics and scratching all surfaces. So the idea is hes so pure that he destroys impure things/people, and for some reason can't keep that "glory switch" turned off? Maybe the glory is connected to his God abilities so when he turns it off hes vulnerable or something.
  14. Alright a little off topic here but, if I wanted to catch up on a lot of information instead of eventually asking a ton of questions, would I want to read the 1st and 2nd testament then I'm guessing a book written by Joseph Smith? If so whats the Mormon book called?
  15. Thanks for the precise responses.
  16. Okay, so I'm guessing the same eternal sense of polygamy also applies to women if their husband were to die. Am I right in thinking this?
  17. So Woodruff wasn't chosen by the people of LDS but by the Lord? How did he prove that God chose him to the other LDS?What do you mean by sealed in Temples? Thanks for the helpful responses thus far.
  18. So Christ lets LDS pick who they want to receive information, such as new rules? The Lord's decision to abolish polygamy was the result of non-LDS attacking LDS? Would this not be the Lord submitting to non-LDS law? So the sacrifices of early polygamists was the persecution of the United States?
  19. Can all colour skinned people become Gods? Do any of them have extra requirements? What do you do after you have become a God and what abilities will you possess? Edit: Thought of another question. Do LDS believe they will be equal to Elohim or Christ after death? If not whats the difference?
  20. Interesting. Do any of you base the effectiveness of your prayers off some type of result, ex. more good days etc.? Do any of you believe God actually speaks back to you, or as one reply said, give you visions? Thanks in advance.
  21. I don't quite understand whats been said in this text. If someone could clarify what it means that would be appreciated. First question, was polygamy outlawed because the president claimed to receive a vision from God? What sacrifices did early polygamists make? By what exception did Latter-day Saints believe that polygamy was fine early on? Thanks in advance.
  22. Why would vision of God destroy a human? Vision is just electrical signals interpreted by your brain. How would anything that we can see in our light spectrum destroy us?

    Hi

Hi, recently a couple of guys my age came to my door who were missionaries and were wondering if I was interested in the Mormon religion. I told them I wasn't. They asked if I'm a member of another religion, I told them I'm not, but I was a Christian for a short period of time. He asked me why I left and I told him that I couldn't believe in a talking snake, or a person lived in a big fish for 3 days, and so on and so forth. He gave me a card with the morman.org website and he said to me "Well here you go thanks anyway" He then said "You're not gonna check that site out are you?". I promised him I would as I am completely open minded. Truth is I have checked the website already and didn't learn anything I already didn't know. Anyway, now I'm here because I want to learn how you people think and see if there's any truth I can find in what the Mormon religion preaches. Don't worry, I won't be an ass but I will be asking for answers. Sorry, saw this smiley and had to post it. I have mad SNES Megaman skills.
