  1. ...No, we do not judge people who are not christians (1Cor 5:9-13). It is the churches job to pass judgment on the living in order to affect church discipline. Jason- I disagree. All people are evil. Their acts are manifestations of that. The judgment passed on other believers is judgment on them as a person- which their actions provide reason for. If you get excommunicated, it is not because of an act- it is because you as a person have allowed yourself to become seriously estranged from God (which you have proven through your acts). Discipline for the act and not the persons self is the complete opposite of what Christianity is about. (I worded that last sentence poorly) No one has ever claimed that a person has the ability to pass final judgment on the soul of another. All judgments but the final one are completely up for grabs though.
  2. why the heck wouldnt he judge her? Thats what he is there for. Thats what we are all organised for. To judge and keep one another in line. How the heck did "judgeing" get such a bad stigma?
  3. The fact that it bothers you so much should go along way towards showing geniune repentance. This kind of stuff is what jesus died for- so don't worry to much. Use your feelings now to help keep you from repeating the error.
  4. clean get away- thats gold
  5. Kona- So then you are instructed to do absolutely nothing to protect yourself from the deception of the devil? And you are instructed that the prophets are perfect in that none of them will ever let their humanity get the best of them and use their position for personal gain by tricking people? Do you simply take some white-out to the scripture when it talks about lying spirits so that they are easier to ignore? You may as well throw out a welcome mat. That is ridiculous. The question is no longer does god still reveal things- I have changed it to what protections do you take not to be deceived. So far your answer so far is none- which does very little to help the credibility of any divine revelation.
  6. I admit it would be awkward to receive something I do not believe in. Kind of like if something fell up... would make me scratch my head a bit at the least. Kona- Thats a stupid statement. Faith in What? The Devils ability to deceive people (earning him the title "The Great Deceiver")? Or Faith in the weakness of man?
  7. shouldnt there be censors that auto edit some words? ^^^^ have fun mods, looks like that knuckle head has flooded the forums.
  8. Nate- What about lying spirits? Or the fact that people confuse their own spirit for Gods. How do you explain the lack of the burning in the bosom some people experience when first looking into the Mormon church? Seriously, there has to be a way to discern the validity of "religious experiences". Praying for guidance in practice is a joke. People want something, they pray about it, their spirit moves them, they think it is God- they do what they want and slap his name on it. The human heart is as great a deceiver as the devil himself. How does the Mormon church protect itself from the chances of the president committing the same sort of actions that have riddled the history of the Popes and Catholic Church? I get what you are saying- you believe in new revelation, therefor God has to use his magic to send it to us. But you are ignoring some huge holes that the devil hides in. Why aren't Christians of all flavors more worried about that, and interested in seeking some kind of answer? Especially since God does not have a good record of having mercy on people who are tricked.
  9. I don't hang out here. I used to, now I stop by once a year or so for maybe a week. Say hello, jump into a conversation or two, and then disappear for a bit.
  10. First of all, in my first posts on the issue I did not exclusively deny that Gods may speak to people- I just said that I would have nothing to do with any of it because there was no accountability for any claim. As for evidence that Gods mouth is shut- what do we need the holy spirit for if the Father is still talking to us? The only reason we have the spirit is to maintain some form of connection to him where otherwise there would be none. I guess there could be the "Tounges" issue. But I am not familiar with any Holy "Babblings" that have included any special or significant revelation. Or any that I view as legitimate for that matter. Lets say God does talk to people. How do you know he is talking to you, and not the Tounge speaking pentacostals? Or the Pope. Maybe God can speak to Hinckley, but how do you know Hinckley is making it up? The Catholic church went through a lot of Scandal with the Popes useing the notion that they could speak to God to their own ends. Obviously I can not definitively prove that God does not speak, reveal, or further instruct our lives. Neither could anyone prove the opposite. And because of the complete lack of accountability for the claims people make- how can you so freely except them?
  11. crimson- I am also partial to your kolob thing theory. Very insightful, heh. I suppose it could have been a voting thing, that would make sense. I had just assumed it was an area of chance because the process had the same name as the one in which the roman soldiers used to split Christs clothing. I'll have to find one of those people that knows the greek and find out which kind of lot it was.
  12. How many here actually think God rigged the casting of lots game to chose mathias to replace judus? If he did- why isn't prayer and lot casting a common practice among churches today?
  13. That statement is debatable. The Catholics would deny the claims of your prophets, and I am sure you would doubt the validity of the Popes claims- both of you claim to dabble with the same holy spirit- and thus the problem i presented is proven.
  14. Whats a sidney crosby? Plexiglass may always been hurt, but he cant still produce while injured, so it doesnt seem to be too much of a hindrance. Look for Sinorice Moss to become a solid option for the giants in a season or two.
  15. just copy and paste it into your word processor and then adjust the font size.
  16. Norv Turner is a horrible coach. Marty still gets more credit for the teams performance this year then Norv does.
  17. Why would it? No one expected much from the Giants this year, and they didn't achieve anything great last year. The Cowgirls are loaded with talent (they are the NFC pro bowl team) and they went up against a team they handled twice- they didn't take the game seriously enough and it cost them. Not to mention the drive the Giants would have had to not lose a 3rd time in one year to a rival. Why do you think Super Bowl winners are given the label of "targets" the next season? Everyone wants to beat them, and if they accomplish that they get their reward in moral/ego boosts.
  18. Gods will has already been revealed. There is nothing left to reveal. God speaks no one anymore. The one and only link to God is the holy spirit, who Christ said would be our comforter while he was away. The spirit speaks with no words, has no texture, smell, or anything resembling a physical property. So anyone who says that they have been spoken to by God is suspect. What means do you have for verifying the validity of someones claims of divine instruction? Scripture wont do, because new scriptures can be written and used to support any claim. Look at your faith. New "divine instruction" and new scripture to go with and support it. Should we trust in the burning sensation? How many do you know who can tell the difference between the movement of their own spirit, and that of the Holy spirit? Or who can Identify a lying spirit?
  19. ...of course. heh.
  20. It does matter who you beat in the Regular season. Things do not hinge on it, but beating the Super Bowl champs in a regular season game will do a lot for a teams moral and will improve their performance in their next games. The more confidence you can take with you into the Post season the better your chances.
  21. Couldnt that same argument be applied to the Christ showing up so many thousands of years after Adam and eve? Maybe God was waiting for the time when the world would be in a better position to receive it, by giving it 200 years to get some foundation before the technology age. Its not like Mormons teach that people before Joseph Smith are SOL. There is that whole spirit world scene.
  22. Giants will win the SB. Which is good, because then next year, my Redskins can beat the SB champs twice. Go Skins.
  23. Is there a way to quote portions of a text, and not the whole post? heh. While I do not believe the bible to be the word of God (merely the recordings of events that transpired during the most important time in mans history), and that Christs message of salvation itself is the word, it is the only tool at the disposal of the world for learning and growing in our faith. I do not believe in revelation at all. Largely due to the fact that there is no accountability for the musings of the spirit. Too often our own spirit is confused as the holy spirit, and things are accredited to God when he had nothing to do with them. Not to mention the possibility of lying spirits. To me, saying that God has told you something is the least reliable statement that can be made. Also the most dangerous, because you either end up ignoring Gods desire, or doing something wrong in his name. Due to the fact that there is no accountability for "divine inspiration"- I refuse to play in that hornets nest of a game at all.
