  2. The author of the article is confused and says that this date is part of the tetrad, but the blood moon tetrad in 2014-2015 encompasses full lunar eclipses that fall on Passover/Tabernacles in succession for these two years in a row. Elul 29 is actually the EVE of Rosh Hashanah (Rosh Hashanah will be a Solar Eclipse in 2015...one of two that occur during this same 2014-2015 time period of the eclipses that fall on Jewish high Holy days) but there does seem to be significance for this date for the American people at least...I wonder if this falling on a "hol" profane day rather than "kodesh" holy day makes it even more ominous for us... It was interesting when I discovered that the last Blood Moon on the Feast of Tabernacles (Sep 28, 2015) will also be a Supermoon that night...making it even more significant? .

  4. Seven of the top 18 corn-producing U.S. states have less than 15 percent of the crop land listed as in either good or excellent shape, farmers reported...Worldwide inventories at the end of the next marketing year will be 123.95 million tons...From a national perspective, the crop condition was unchanged week to week with 3 percent listed as excellent, 19 percent as good and 26 percent in each of the categories of good, poor and very poor. Few acres of corn in good or great shape - UPI.com 52 percent in poor to very poor condition...but pretty much all they are talking about on the news is the quantity which based on the fact that farmers planted more than ever this year isn't so bad as it could have been, but almost nothing is said about the quality of that corn... In 1988 which is the most recent bad drought the amount of corn in poor to very poor condition was ~46 percent, we have exceeded that number this year but you aren't hearing anything in the news about that...puzzling... http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/agricultural/files/ht_charts/crncondit_cbt.pdf
  5. I went to do a new price comparison recently for food storage items and I couldn't find the 50 lbs of popcorn in the usual stores...I've been buying mine there for 7 years. Then today I just read an article saying they are already finding it difficult to find sources of supply and the price has already gone up substantially. "Retail prices have jumped this summer: from about $20 for a 50 pound bag to $30 or higher, said Tim Caldwell, owner of Pop It Rite, an Illinois-based popcorn industry expert..." Popcorn drought hits US movie theaters (+video) - CSMonitor.com Wheat is getting close to $18.00 at Honeyville (in the bag) BUT it was still $16.35 at Costco in a 6 gallon bucket on Saturday. If you don't have a cold storage room in your basement you would have to do the dry ice method for longer-term storage, but a lid is less than $2 at Industrial Container Supply and the dry ice is cheap at the store. Go to the Packaging Recommendations at Providentliving.org for easy to DIY instructions... Check to make sure that your Costco has Lehi Roller Mill wheat before you go, because many outside of the Intermountain West especially don't carry it..
  6. My niece is in this situation with children. She is young and pretty and she dates some, but as she is not willing to cancel her sealing she only has guys who are friends and not potential boyfriends. Like was stated, even most righteous divorced men want to be sealed to their wife. She has had one potential relationship that went nowhere because of this. It is a hard thing all the way around.

President Joseph Fielding Smith noted that: “one of the great failings of mankind is to ignore warnings...the summer is passing and if we are heedless of the warning we will find the summer past, the harvest ended and our souls not saved. 9. While a lot of the recent articles are a rehashing of what has already been posted, this did strike me as something important... Matus told Bloomberg TV that the decline of the U.S. capital stock is a bad sign: I would say that one of the things that people have generally ignored is that the U.S. capital stock is in decline. This is the first time post-war we've ever seen it. We don't know what the repercussions are because we have nothing in history to look back on and say, "Hey, last time it did this, this is what followed on it." I would submit to you, though, that it's probably nothing good. The capital stock Matus is referring to is American companies' investments in new equipment and software – one of the four main components in GDP – less the depreciation of existing equipment. Coconut Oil

I have researched coconut oil for many years on the internet, but I have also used quite a bit of it for my son for health purposes (but not the ones that Eowyn was asking about) and I have bought multiple brands and from the various sources I listed. I really tried to post those things that I thought might help Eowyn find the answers she was seeking and I spent quite a bit of time in doing that, I meant to be a friend and help to her...I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone here (again) by posting. My son has been on the SCD diet for Crohn's and as coconut oil is reported by some to help those in flare go into remission and not go back into flare we have used a lot of coconut oil through the years. We use it to deep fry things like sweet potato fries and other vegetables. I also use it when I stir fry for our family or when I saute garlic. I also have lesser quality coconut oil for soap making. So I can say that I have bought and used a great deal of coconut oil during the years. Some types do taste more "coconutty" than others. I can verify that it is good for high heat type cooking and for some desert type baking (I mostly use the kind that has more coconut flavor.) As far as the health benefits for him, fortunately he has been in remission and so it is impossible to say whether it has benefited his health or not. But he HAS stayed in remission far longer than expected by the experts so it is something that I will keep using for him but I wouldn't say it is the only thing that has kept him healthy. For food storage I mostly store shortening and lard as these are oils that also store a long time, but if I had unlimited funds it would be all coconut oil (for frying and baking) and olive oil (for dressings and other uncooked uses.) I have a friend that makes honey"butter" using coconut oil and puts it on toast or muffins every morning, she says her kids love it so much she has to hide it as she does take it hopefully to benefit her health (as she does a lot of other things too it is hard to pinpoint whether any one thing is helping.)
  11. Recap... Intially this years crop had 77 percent that looked at least good, Later it was 63 percent that still looked good, the next week it was 53 percent, etc. Then it was 40 percent Then 31% 26% 24% This week 22% See article above saying that these numbers are overly optimistic...
  12. Record breaking prices again this week...the news media will always say how prices were similar in the winter of ____...but this is comparing apples with oranges as record prices are almost unheard of during harvest but traditionally peak during the winter/early spring months. As corn prices have gone up almost 70 percent in the last couple of months and corn products are found in about 3/4ths of our food products this is a pretty big indicator that foods are going to be crazy expensive this winter. "The Pro Farmer tour sparked the rally" Tuesday, said Frank Cholly of RJO Futures. They have a pretty good peg at final yields," he said. The Pro Farmer estimates were significantly lower than the US Department of Agriculture's sharply slashed forecasts from last week." 13. "The U.S. Agriculture Department cut its projected U.S. corn production to 10.8 billion bushels, down 17 percent from its forecast last month of nearly 13 billion bushels" It will be interesting to see what the actual numbers will be as many experts say that this estimate is still overly optimistic.

    Coconut Oil

Just a caution when buying coconut oil you can buy much healthier versions than others and you have to be careful when comparing price that you don't compare apples with oranges. The rawer and the less processed the better. Some coconut oil is not meant for human consumption but only to be used for soap making. Mercola's thoughts on coconut oil Coconut Oil | Extra Virgin Coconut Oil - Mercola.com my own disclaimer (they sell it at this site, page down to the bottom, but the video does tell you why "natural" health type people like it.) Some other places that sell coconut oils...also amazon has it but again you have to be careful not to get the kind that is highly processed or meant for soapmaking. The best is raw, virgin, cold pressed (not expeller), etc. Bulk organic herbs, spices & essential oils from Mountain Rose Herbs Certified Organic Products, Virgin Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Raw Foods & More » Wilderness Family Naturals Some people really like Tropical Traditions brand, especially when they have a good sale, but their sale prices can be higher than others regular price. Also another buying tip, it weighs a ton so it is often cheaper at the companies that have fixed shipping rates like Amazon and Mercola...but then I buy it by the gallon and other people might buy a pint or quart where the shipping might be less.

    Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil unlike olive oil is a preferred oil for frying and heating. They sell it to theatres because it smokes less than other oils. Even though it is solid when it is cold it is a liquid fat in warmer temperatures and is a desired fat in things like soaps because of it's naturally anti-microbial as well as softening properties. It is used for those with bowel issues and many other issues as well. Supposedly the body is less likely to store coconut oil as fat but don't know if that is scientifically proven. It is an oil that will lasts years in a cool, dry place and so it is a preferred oil for food storage along with olive oil. You do not get the health benefit from all kinds of coconut oil, the less processed the better. I noticed that the coconut oil at Costco is hydrogenated and I'm not sure how much more healthy that would be than shortening made with other oils. 16. The prediction of more severe weather is coming true as the Philippines and China have been suffering from large storms and heavy flooding that have resulted in huge losses of crops while in India, one of the world's largest food producers and consumers with a population of 1.2 billion, people continue to struggle with a prolonged drought. 18. Ship traffic on the Mississippi River was briefly shut down yesterday and salt from the Gulf of Mexico is threatening the drinking water upriver...The river is a mess and the inability to move goods through major ports will only drive up the cost of buying and selling them. The Drought Is Killing The Mississippi River - Yahoo! News Sixty percent of our grain, 22% of the oil and natural gas, and 1/5th of our coal travels down the Mississippi River and if shipping were to stop it would cost more than 300 million dollars for every day. Barges are already running light to prevent getting stuck causing shipping prices to go up.
  19. I totally get your drift my friend! I have too many young adult sons to spend much time contemplating rumors of war, that does bring on uncomfortable levels of anxiety. Notice the short warning post without any detail above. Also, how does a middle-aged sister prepare for war beyond following the prophets counsel in "All is Safely Gathered In"...? I don't know much about guns or bombshelters or ... I would call people who prepare for such things "survivalists" and I don't fit in that category. Not putting down such people here but that is just not where my talents lie...now if you want to know how to dehydrate fruits using the windshield in your car...I'm your preparedness nut. Seriously, I'm more focused on the prophet's counsel and helping my "neighbors" become self-reliant as well.
  20. I don't follow this kind of information too much. But thought to start a thread on this topic as there seems to be an unusual amount of discussion of such things in the news lately...particularly related to the Middle East with Syria, Israel, Iran, etc. China/North Korea and the Yellow Sea area. Russia and other communist countries in Cuba and drilling oil close to our shores and claiming resources in Antarctica, etc. There is talk of war starting based on depleting resources and then wars divided by political beliefs and religion. In the Middle East both come into play. All I'm saying is that it looks to be getting ugly out there and it could spill over and effect us directly at some point.
  21. The more we cleave unto righteousness, the more we enjoy the protecting care of our Savior... Faith, spirituality, and obedience produce a prepared and self-reliant people...blessings come as we obey the counsel of the prophets and live within our means, avoid unnecessary debt, and set aside sufficient of life’s necessities to sustain ourselves and our families for at least a year. 22. They keep comparing this drought to 1988 when 69 percent of the US Midwest was suffering from drought, but we have been seeing ~80 percent of the United States in drought this summer. Here is the current drought monitor from last week...US Drought Monitor "Corn prices have surged 63% since mid-June, reaching an all-time high of $8.49 a bushel this past Friday, on the Chicago Board of Trade. 23. Corn prices were at an all-time high on Friday...beating out a previous high from April 2008. But here is the thing...that is like comparing apples and oranges. An all time high price DURING HARVEST is alarming as prices traditonally hit their peaks in late winter/spring. To have ALL-TIME record breaking prices before and during Harvest should raise big red flags for everyone concerning prices this winter, and things won't get better unless there is a great harvest next year as the global stock of corn is expected to get down to a 3 week supply in 2013...and that is with present estimates which are expected to still be further depleted by the time the harvest is actually counted. In fact if next years harvest also suffers it could be a calamity for multitudes, perhaps even us. I am like you, my normalcy bias wants things to stay comfortable and the same. But that might simply not be an option in the future... ***
