  1. Sounds like the same ground as in Las Vegas here. Perhaps there aren't "Zombies" in Qatar? As our beliefs are that the Lord won't come in glory until after such things as the tribulations, war of Armageddon in Israel, etc. being raptured isn't a very good plan for us. We do have promises of the "New Jerusalem" eventually being a place of safety for the last days. Maybe you could come stay with us!
  2. Augason Farms Outlet Store has moved, it is now at: 1833 S. 3850 W. SLC, UT 84104 Store Hours 9:00am-5:00pm Mon - Fri Most of their stuff is in cans and while they have a great deal more selection in the retail store (especially of gluten free foods) I think their prices are the same as what they sell at Walmart and Maceys. But usually they have instore specials, and every once in a while I have gotten some great deals there such as dented cans, e.g. a friend that went to their grand opening got Quinoa for $3 per 20 lb bag. This is in the same (relative) neighborhood as Welfare Square Dry Pack Cannery, Honeyville (see address up a few posts) and Industrial Container Supply (for water containers and plastic buckets.) Seriously you could buy a year supply with most all the toys and extras easily in an afternoon. Note the hours so you don't go there on a Saturday (same goes for Industrial Container Supply.)
  3. Maybe Isaiah is talking about you guys when he says: 57 1The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. 2 He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness. Here is the translation by Avraham Gileadi 57:1-2 The righteous disappear and no man gives it a thought. The godly are gathered out but no one perceives that from impending calamity The righteous are withdrawn." I can only imagine what supplies would be needed to bug out into the wilderness over any length of time such as a winter or during the duration of the sickness "waves" of a pandemic. Three months of food you can eat without a lot of prep and a longer-term supply of foods that will last a long time like grains and beans perhaps? "All is Safely Gathered In" tells what and how we should "gather in" http://www.lds.org/bc/content/shared/content/english/pdf/language-materials/04008_eng.pdf Okay, so my calling is PREPAREDNESS in my ward, what more can I say? I want EVERYONE to be prepared for adversity in their lives, calamities and tribulations. From the back cover of "All is Safely Gathered In" Come, ye thankful people, come; Raise the song of harvest home. All is safely gathered in Ere the winter storms begin.
  4. My advice is to find out where the family history library is near you and ask the librarians? there to help you. There is software that you can buy that can be a help, but some of it is pricey and generally you still have to put in the people's information in initially. So unless this is going to happen a lot you may just want to "borrow" what they might have at your local family history library. But then it still mightl depend on how much the people there know about it and what software they have access to there. Things have been changing A LOT lately with the Church's software and some people are more computer savvy than others. I have been putting my family history onto familytree one person at a time and it isn't that hard. It is a name and dates and places for each person. You might find when you get back a few generations that some of the information may already be in there which always makes me happy, especially if there is a family with 8 or more kids which seems to have happened a lot back in the day.
  5. What I know is that it is REALLY hot here, especially for our little swamp cooler to keep up with...REALLY hot! Remember earlier in this thread that one of the things I/we have been "watching" is to see if there is a regional drought which would make this a three year drought meeting or exceeding the "dust bowl" years. The regional drought in the West looks like it could do that. The thing is that last year the extreme temperatures and drought iin the midwest started in July, this year's started in June. Ouch! No real end to this heat wave in sight. "The irrigation water restrictions are in play throughout the state as communities, farmers and ranchers are left to deal with a snowmelt that peaked unseasonably early and rivers and streams that continue to dwindle with each passing week. Dry ground compounded by lack of rainfall and the heat are all combining to create untenable conditions for many of Utah's farmers and ranchers." "the U.S. Department of Agriculture noted that the national cattle herd...was at its lowest level in 60 years" Drought in 72 percent of the land in 10 western states!! 6. Meana - my deep sympathies with your disappointment! I can only imagine. I really hope you gain a new valuable relationship with a "close" relative out of it. I kind of had an opposite experience. I spent over a year doing genealogy research often spending 50 or more hours a week (most often until 2 in the morning). Unfortunately, I was told that by using a certain software program that I was submitting names to the temple, but actually all I was doing was submitting into new family search. When I discovered my mistake they had changed the rules, so not only did I have to go through all the records one by one again to submit them, but I had to see how I was related to them to see if I could still do their work. I am still in the process of redoing the research and many of the names are their spouse's family and so I can no longer submit the names. All I can do is put them "out there" and hope that someone gets converted who can help them progress.

  8. The bad news, where we are with stockpiles going into the 2013 season: Increased corn sowing will boost stockpiles that fell to the lowest in 16 years as inventories on June 1 totaled 2.76 billion bushels the lowest since 1997. Soybeans are .435 billion bushels currently. Wheat . 750 billion bushels. (USDA June 2013 Quarterly Grain Stocks report in billions of bushels released June 28, 2013) The good news, U.S. farmers are forecast by the USDA to produce record harvests this year, while the United Nations predicts global wheat output will be the highest ever. Record levels or almost record numbers of many crops have been put in the groung so far this year. Oilseed, corn, soybeans, etc. Frequent rain and no extreme heat is what is being predicted for this season. :) Hope so. It is a good time to buy bulk grains as farmers are concerned prices will be going down with a bumper crop and are selling even though current stocks available are very low.
  9. As people have said previously we are currently being gathered in to our stakes of Zion. As it quoted in "missouri myths" there may be a further gathering but we should not be concerned about it until and if we are invited or called in the future by the prophets. I think some people confuse gathering to "Zion" with Utah, but Zion is used to describe the pure in heart, the Church, the Intermountain West, Israel, Missouri, etc. depending on the quote, talk or scripture. I think that is why the brethren keep saying we must learn to follow the Spirit so that we can be guided and know for ourselves what we should do and how we must prepare our families for any possible future gathering or calamities which are prophecied for these "last days". (Did anyone read the amazing true life experience that loudmouth just posted about his ward? Ouch! I lived in a ward that had a calamity but it was severe flooding instead that took the homes of the families.) Between now and the tribulations which are foretold by many prophets for us in these latter days, we were told just yesterday where to focus most of our efforts now and that is on building the Kingdom on earth now! :) My child was called last week to Asia! and I have another child who will be going in less than a year. We can expect growth in all areas of the world! I see much good done on this site as well. ================================================ ps You can learn a lot about the last day froms this talk by President Benson April 14, 1981, Prepare Yourselves for the Great Day of the Lord, by President Ezra Taft Benson Listen to this great talk here - and Speeches "But to an otherwise gloomy picture there is a bright side—the coming of our Lord in all his glory. His coming will be both glorious and terrible, depending on the spiritual condition of those who remain. One appearance will be to the righteous Saints who have gathered to the New Jerusalem here in America. In this place of refuge they will be safe from the wrath of the Lord which will be poured out without measure on all nations. Modern revelation provides this description: And the glory of the Lord shall be there, and the terror of the Lord also shall be there, insomuch that the wicked will not come unto it, and it shall be called Zion. And it shall come to pass among the wicked, that every man that will not take his sword against his neighbor must needs flee unto Zion for safety. And there shall be gathered unto it out of every nation under heaven; and it shall be the only people that shall not be at war one with another. [D&C 45: 67–69]"
  10. "Some find it difficult to withstand the mocking and unsavory remarks of foolish ones who ridicule...obedience to God’s commands. But the world has ever belittled adherence to principle. When Noah was instructed to build an ark, the foolish populace looked at the cloudless sky and then scoffed and jeered—until the rain came. Must we learn such costly lessons over and over again? Times change, but truth persists. When we fail to profit from the experiences of the past, we are doomed to repeat them with all their heartache, suffering, and anguish. Haven’t we the wisdom to obey Him who knows the beginning from the end—our Lord...?" President Monson The World Needs Pioneers Today - Ensign July 2013 - ensign
  11. For the past several years I have kept my collection of preparedness quotes on-line in case I or some friend here needs them for a talk or FHE or wants to know what the prophets have been saying recently about these things. http://www.lds.net/forums/preparedness/42236-not-afraid-fall-2011-a.html http://www.lds.net/forums/lds-gospel-discussion/44699-not-afraid-2012-a.html__ ================== I haven't read a lot of the last General Conference issue yet, but today we studied President Packer's "These Things I know" and these quotes really stuck out to me... "I have come to know that faith is a real power, not just an expression of belief." and "All are born with the Light of Christ, a guiding influence which permits each person to recognize right from wrong. What we do with that light and how we respond to those promptings to live righteously is part of the test of mortality." and "We find safety and security for ourselves and our children in honoring the covenants we have made and living up to the ordinary acts of obedience required of the followers of Christ. Isaiah said, “The work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.” That peace is also promised in the revelations in which the Lord declares, “If ye are prepared ye shall not fear.”
  12. Seven families from your ward? Ouch! What are they doing now?
  13. Overall, the crops are only down 8 percent from last year! which is good considering the drought that extended through the winter months in many areas. What I didn't see in the reports was the quality of the wheat harvested which is also important. The bad news is that exports are so high that our stocks will remain at a 5 year low and export sales this year started very strong and have continued. Other major exporters have seen excessive heat recently which has moved up their harvests iin time and slightly reduced their output. http://usda01.library.cornell.edu/usda/current/WHS/WHS-06-14-2013.pdf
  14. What do 1929, 2000 and 2007 all have in common? Those were all years in which we saw a dramatic spike in margin debt. In all three instances, investors became highly leveraged in order to "take advantage" of a soaring stock market...It is happening again. In April (the last month we have a number for, margin debt rose to an all-time high of more than 384 billion dollars. The previous high was 381 billion dollars which occurred back in July 2007...The stock market just continues to rise even though the underlying economic fundamentals continue to get worse. So...if history is any indication we are in big trouble [i would say in a big bubble myself.] In the past, whenever margin debt has gone over 2.25% of GDP the stock market has crashed. That certainly does not mean that the market is going to crash this week, but it is a major red flag. Margin debt has now risen to about 2.4 percent of GDP, and as the New York Times recently pointed out, whenever we have gotten this high before a market crash has always followed...Every time margin debt has soared to a dramatic new high in the past, a stock market crash and a recession have always followed. Will we escape a similar fate this time? When Margin Debt Goes Over 2.25% Of GDP, The Stock Market Always Crashes - Seeking Alpha
  15. I am concerned for my brothers and sisters because I love them. Concern and watching are not synonyms with fearing. I think it is interesting that both President Monson and President Hinckley have given talks on "If ye are prepared ye shall not fear." Regarding "Fear and doubt", that is something President Monson talked about in his message to the Church in the June 2011 Ensign... "Living welfare principles is about putting our faith in Jesus Christ into action—by...establishing family home storage...Our faith leads us to educate our minds and our hands and to work every day of our lives to be self-reliant. Having taken care of our own needs, we are better able to provide for ourselves and serve others. May we follow the counsel not only to do good but strive to be good, not just to do better but to be better. Obedience to the Lord’s counsel brings temporal and spiritual blessings. It allows us to face the challenges of life armed with courage and confidence rather than fear and doubt." President Monson, June 2011 Ensign In that same message on self-reliance we were told that once we are prepared we should do all we can to help our neighbors prepare. I want us all armed with courage and confidence by being obedient to the Lord's counsel and commandments which truly brings temporal and spiritual blessings. But that is another thread, so now back to "watching with all perseverence" as Elder Bednar has counseled us to do so often in recent years. Hawaii June 2013 28% decrease in tradewinds since the 1970s "These days, the trade winds are mysteriously dying down, and Hawaiians are having to cope with something normally associated with Midwestern summers and the Deep South: humidity...The trade winds also bring rains to the islands, and these days Hawaii is seeing a decline in water levels. Officials are working to fast track mountain conservation programs to shore up existing water supplies, and are studying new methods for farmers to use when planting crops. Hawaii Starts Feeling a Little Bit Less Like Paradise, More Like Atlanta .
  16. These weather related issues are increasingly effecting more of us personally and they effect all of us collectively in the form of higher prices in the grocery store, at the gas station and additional monies in taxes/debt for the government to help those effected by these calamities. Personally, as my calling as a Preparedness specialist puts me over food storage group buys for my area a reduction in supply or an increase in prices is concerning, i.e. I wonder with rising prices for food, health care, gas, etc. how long the window of opportunity to prepare for calamities will remain open for most families. June 9th Haboob in Colorado There are Dust Bowl Conditions in Colorado along with Winter Wheat Crop Devastation "While parts of Iowa have received more than 17 inches of rain this spring following a drought last summer, currently the Southeast corner of Colorado, parts of Kansas, New Mexico, and Texas are in D4, the worst stage of drought measured by the U.S. Drought Monitor. The three month drought forecast map offers no reason for hope, either. The Denver Post article contains farm family stories that also sound like they are straight out of the 1930′s. With phrases like “had to cover their faces with handkerchiefs” and “opened the front door and saw 3-foot drifts of dirt everywhere” and “I couldn’t see five feet in front of me”, one wonders how wide this region of blowing dust will become over the remainder of this year." There are Dust Bowl Conditions in Colorado along with Winter Wheat Crop Devastation | Big Picture Agriculture June 7th Haboob in Albuquerque Dust Storm Sweeps Into Albuquerque. The photos and weather analysis behind a somewhat rare haboob (duststorm) in Albuquerque, N.M.. www. Weather. com Last year the extreme heat across the country started in July. While we don't know if that will happen this year yet, I find the current reports concerning as Summer has NOT officially begun and yet "searing, record-breaking heat will expand out of the Southwest into the Rockies, Southern Plains and Southeast over the next few days." Currently Record breaking (or near record breaking heat) in California, Nevada, Utah. http://coolwx.com/record/records.daily.usa.large.png "As storms and rain threaten much of the rest of the country, record-breaking heat in parts of the Southwest was believed to be responsible for at least two deaths this weekend. Boy Scout leader Clawson Bowman Jr., a 69-year-old Las Vegas native, was found dead Saturday in Lake Mead National Recreation Area park, which straddles Arizona and Nevada. The rescue team saved four boys, all Boy Scouts, and another man, who were treated for heat-related illnesses." Weekend's record-breaking heat claims two in Southwest - U.S. News
  17. California has already sustained fire damage not normally seen until late summer. Fireseason this year has been early and is expected to continue extreme as this is the second dry year in a row with snow packs being 21 percent of normal for this time of year. Tornados -- Over the past decade we have seen the six least active and four most active tornado seasons. This thread is mostly about how the unusual wind currents are affecting the weather and causing record breaking weather. The recent record breaking tornado is of note. Also another statistic that points to the irregular and weird jet stream patterns is that the three earliest and four latest starts to the tornado season have all occurred in the past 15 years. Overall we could very well continue to see fewer days of tornadoes overall, but more frequent and much more destructive tornadoes when they do occur. Nothing really "normal" about tornados lately. Talking about quick starts, Andrea the first tropical storm is here and scientists are saying things like: “This year, oceanic and atmospheric conditions in the Atlantic basin are expected to produce more and stronger hurricanes,” said Gerry Bell, Ph.D., lead seasonal hurricane forecaster with NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center. “These conditions include weaker wind shear, warmer Atlantic waters and conducive winds patterns coming from Africa." After Sandy last year many more of us are "watching.". Precipitation was mostly below normal in the West where much of the Southwest, the Great Basin and California received less than half of normal precipitation. Some parts of the northern Plains and the Upper Mississippi received three times the normal precipitation, as did some parts of the Southeast and New England. However, much of the central Plains remained dry. Continued dryness is a big concern for crops after the extreme record breaking heat last year. Residents along the Mississippi River have experienced a severe case of flood-drought-flood weather whiplash over the past two years. The Mississippi reached its highest level on record in 2011. Last year, after the great drought of 2012, the river had fallen by over 53′ to an all time record low. The river is again at flood stage. Seriously, there doesn't seem to be a lot of "normal" to the weather patterns in many places lately, unless one considers extreme weather the new normal. .
  18. Largest E5 tornado ever recorded at 2.6 miles wide this week in Oklahoma. 19. The closely-watched ISM index of US factories tumbled through the “boom-bust line” of 50 to 49, far below expectations. David Bloom said, “The manufacturing indices came in weaker than expected in China, Korea, India and Russia, and then we got America’s ISM. We thought we had a clear picture that the US was recovering, Japan was printing money and we’re back to happy days, and now suddenly a huge spanner has been thrown in the works.” Global shock as manufacturing contracts in US and China - Telegraph
  20. Articles out the last few days tell of the 500 year flood in Europe happening in places like the Czech republic and Germany. Another article talked of how Germany has had only a few days of sunshine this year so far with overcast skies and rain caused by stalled weather patterns. Of course Oklahoma is also experiencing extreme weather including a rising death count.
  21. Here is one I haven't seen before which is a comet and meteor this year before the sequence of blood moons begins next year. "A comet and meteor shower will pass by earth on the Jewish holiday of Tu BiSh'vat a few months before the Jewish Eclipse sequence begins." To see a chart of these things go here: 2014 - 2015 Jewish Holiday Eclipses & Comet Schedule I believe there is significance to heavenly signs on significant Jewish days. So perhaps another heavenly sign for my "watching" friends here. :)
  22. With the great influx of missionaries I have to wonder what the significance of this time in history might be? So some random thoughts. FWIW Is this the last great harvest before the Tribulations when travel will be limited? Could the increased sister missionaries be needed for compassionate service to the Saints during one of the "plagues" told of by Christ in Matthew 24? Could the missionaries be on their missions during the tribulations and help lead the Saints and other good people to a place of safety or the New Jerusalem? Obviously we were losing too many young people from the Church in that first year of college or work before their missions. It is a blessing that that has changed, and the "kids" going out are awesome! (At least in my ward.)
  23. Last year’s drought left winter-wheat fields in November in the worst condition since at least 1985, when the government started keeping records. Winter-wheat crops currently in “very poor” to “poor” condition stood at 41% today May 28th, compared to only 14% recorded in the same week a year ago. Remember last year the wheat crop was fine as the record breaking heat really didn't start until July and winter wheat is harvested in June. But this year a lot more of the wheat crop is being hammered by weather "weirdness" begun last year and still continuing.

  25. I hope that is the reason my friend, other articles are talking about bubbles, lots and lots of bubbles. We'll see. "Somewhere along the way, I would have hoped they might have noted that each new crisis is larger than the one before – necessitating an even larger response that begets an even larger crisis next time, etc., and so on. A corporate bond hiccup in 1994 led to monetary loosening that enabled the development of the Long Term Capital Management (LTCM) fiasco of 1998, which was followed by the tech bubble, and then the housing bubble, and here we are with a now global equity and bond bubble that is larger than all the prior bubbles combined. Much larger. It was famously said that the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent." Four Signs That We're Back in Dangerous Bubble Territory | Peak Prosperity
