  1. I thought this was interesting as there are some Evangelical Christians and Latter-Day Saints that believe similar things. We know that the Israelites from the North will be going to help build the New Jerusalem and that the Jews are already being gathered from exile to Israel. This man believes that an exodus still lies in the future for the Jews, revelations talks of the elect going into the wilderness for safety also. FWIW Deuteronomy 8:2-6 "When I was twenty years of age, a man came to me, prayed for me, and spoke these very words over me. He said that one day these words would be my life, that God was preparing me to one day live out these words, that this was my destiny in the Lord. It is now more than forty years later. We are at the end of the ages. The Greater Exodus will soon begin. God has prepared me for these days to say this to you… Get your sukkah ready now. Keep His commandments. Keep the Feast of Tabernacles. Prepare to leave your home and community at a future Passover. You are about to journey to the promised land and be part of the Greater Exodus." 2. I know it is not orthodox now-a-days to consider or admit the possibility of a famine coming upon the inhabitants of North America. Do we not possess the richest country in the world?... Yes; and yet I read in the revelations which the Lord has given to us that a day of famine will come upon the land...When that day shall come we will learn, if we do not learn it before, that the community which is the nearest self-supporting will be the most independent and the most prosperous that can be found anywhere in the land. Pres. Joseph F. Smith, Collected Discourses, Vol. 5, Discourse given at General Conference, Sat., Oct. 8. 1892 in the Tabernacle, Salt Lake City, UT.
  3. Eowyn, I appreciate the way you wrote your post with the complement before the zinger. That was very kind where others might have just left off the first part. It wouldn't look like I was talking to myself if I posted each article as a separate thread in current events, but out of consideration for my friends such as yourself I am mostly keeping this current event contained to this single thread with single sentences or small blurbs even though I think it is important to know about the drought as there's no longer any doubt that prices ARE going to go up and knowing in advance could be a blessing to some here, hopefully many. Before I joined this site I kept having the thought come to me that I should join and that there was someone that would benefit from it. Eventually I thought okay already and joined. I truly believe it was inspiration that brought me here, but I am sure there are others here that would disagree with that possibility. Perhaps there is someone lurking or visiting that will benefit or has benefited from something I have posted. I hope so, but probably won't know whether all this effort is wasted until we get to the other side where, if I have wasted my time as well as yours, I will personally apologize to all I have annoyed or offended in person as I have come to care about the people here, even those that don't appreciate what I post very much. Or perhaps my presence is to promote patience... :) I think this is a valuable site and appreciate the many good gospel discussions I see taking place. I admire the intellect and caring that I see displayed on so many threads. This is a great group and I do appreciate being here. Char
  4. Hi, I have a son that has autism that is also very smart, however my son is now in his teens. He was severely autistic when he was younger but had some eye contact and would interact for a time and so many people thought he was just really a stinker rather than autistic. On the hard side he melted down if things in his environment changed too much and his receptive language at 2 and 3 was very low compared to his age (I didn't know that before testing.) Mostly he used those around him as a tool to get what he wanted and relationship skills beyond playing very structured games with others like video games (I have a lot of boys) were not on the radar. I almost cancelled his diagnosis appointment because he was so smart and he didn't do the flapping and other typical ASD movements. Fortunately, I did take him to the appointment where 17 people were involved and even with all of his strengths they found that he was severe in his social/relationship abilities...and he was smart! reading when he was four and could out play some of his older brothers on their video games when he was three. He has had thousands of hours of one on one therapy since then and what I can tell you is that for children that are smart the academic learning is the least of their problems...and gospel lessons can be done in family home evening or through daily conversation. In nursery he is in the better environment to work on issues of autism which mostly have to do with developing and keeping relationships, being kind and thinking of others, playing with rather than beside other children, etc. Interaction is key which is not as likely to happen once he gets into sunbeams. For some kids it can be important to overcome being overwhelmed by chaotic environments, etc. Relationship skills are much better learned in a play environment. If I had it to do over again I would have learned the RDI parent driven method of therapy where they teach you to teach him relationship skills mostly through play and I would have been in nursery with him. ABA was okay but very expensive and they mostly focus on language and academic skills...play skills which are what he really needed were saved for "breaks" and supervised play dates and still lacking those relationship skills is still a huge handicap for making and keeping relationships now that he is older. However, what they teach may have changed in the past 10 years. I am very proud of him, he is an eagle scout, very responsible, the nicest kid around and he surpassed me in math a book or two ago...and he is just starting his junior year in high school, is a talented and avid golfer, etc. None of those things reallly matter to him as he has no close friends and the likelihood of his developing any in the future is rather remote, also lack of relationship skills will most likely impact his ability to get and keep a job and court and marry and have a normal family life in the future. But like others have said, your son may not have ASD as many "symptoms" of ASD are normal, just not all at once. I had people telling me that their child head banged, or melted down often or had delayed speech, had food issues, etc. ... and they outgrew it and for some that is true. But having true experts decide can relieve a lot of anxiety if that is not the case and can give other therapy options if needed that can be very helpful over the longterm. At least you are open to the idea. I taught nursery a couple of years ago and there was a boy there that is autistic...very severe I think. I believe that because he lost language and regressed and in nursery acted as if there was no one else in the room mowing other kids over to get what he wanted like bubbles or toys, not looking at others faces much, melting down often, he screamed during singing time because of auditory issues, had issues with touch, would take others food and thought nothing of it, etc. This boy is still not talking much and has to have someone with him most of the time to function in Sunbeams and is taken in the corner to play by the primary presidency during sharing time so that he isn't at the front of the room disrupting as he doesn't sit and listen and wants to be chosen for everything and if he isn't he does it anyway. Even though he isn't talking much he does learning games showing that he understands concepts such as colors and numbers, etc. The parents are still in denial the mother saying that she was uncontrollable as a child and outgrew it and that he will too and believes that a label would harm him more than help him. But this is a very severe child, fortunately many children with ASD are not that severe. If you desire services it is important to get on waiting lists ASAP. Where I lived it took 8 months of being on a waiting list for the diagnosis appointment and then another 6 months on a waiting list until a space became available to begin remediation...and that is a lot of time lost when best outcomes begin with early diagnosis and intervention. Depending on where you live there may not be many services available even after being diagnosed. That is another reason why I really like the RDI method...as you don't have to wait as much for others as it is the parents doing it and you can do it without a diagnosis. If a child is autistic group learning is not where they learn the social skills needed to be successful in life as it takes intensive one-on-one to "catch them up" to other kids and in mary areas preschool can be the only service available for higher functioning kids which is more babysitting rather than remediation for autism I believe. But best outcome scenarios are not always doable as for various reason we can only do what we can do... This is just an opinion from one who has been there... my very best wishes my friend.
  5. Nearly 220 counties in a dozen drought-stricken states were added Wednesday to the U.S... The U.S. Department of Agriculture's addition of the 218 counties means that more than half of all U.S. counties -- 1,584 in 32 states -- have been designated primary disaster areas this growing season, the vast majority of them mired in a drought that's considered the worst in decades. Half of US counties now considered disaster areas Recap the first thread had about 1,000 counties, now 1,584 more than half are disaster areas, many more are unusually dry to moderate drought.
  6. I find the dreams highly interesting such as the Cardston vision by Sol Guardisto, the two reports of George Albert Smith's purported vision of the last days, Mosiah Hancock's vision, the purported vision of Pres. John Taylor, etc. But I can't think of one that I could point to and say this one is "true." But I do find the similar aspects in some dreams/visions intriguing particularly when I run across people that have had similar dreams and have never read these dreams. If you are interested in last days prophecy an interesting article I recently read was found here...it's the research of an LDS author who recently wrote a fictional account of last days events where he lists LDS leaders quotes regarding why he included various events in his story. I have not read the book but his research is interesting. Escape to Zion - Prophecies
  7. President Wilford Woodruff said: "The Lord is not going to disappoint either Babylon or Zion, with regard to famine, pestilence, earthquake or storms. He is not going to disappoint anybody with regard to any of these things, they are at the doors. Lay up your wheat and other provisions against a day of need, for the day will come when they will be wanted, make no mistake about it. We shall want bread, and the Gentiles will want bread, and if we are wise we shall have something to feed them and ourselves when famine comes." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 18:121, given on September 12, 1875.)
  8. ...Grain output in Western Australia, the country’s biggest wheat grower, may drop 40 percent because of dry weather and frost... As many as 400 of India’s 627 districts received lower-than-average rainfall this year... China may import a record 61 million metric tons of soybeans in the 2012-13 season... (Bloomberg Businessweek, Aug 2, 2012)
  9. I have read hundreds of dreams/vision/NDEs and researched these things. Scientifically our brains are designed to be able to have such experiences (at least NDEs) under certain conditions. Why that is so I can't say except that a Heavenly Father has made us so. What I do know is that most last days dreams are seldom literal being mostly symbolic (think of Lehi's dream) but most have common threads and it is those common threads or lessons that I find most interesting. Some dreams of course are "too much pizza" dreams or I just saw "2012" again dreams or even just made up for the attention, etc. What I find particularly interesting are when people of other religions have complementary dreams to those that LDS members are having.
  10. I haven't really read much on this thread that I disagree with. We know that "the prophecies of Joel have been fulfilled" where people will have dreams/vision/increased inspiration in the last days. Most of these dreams are not for "the public" but for the invidual. However, some feel inspired or are even told to share dreams/vision/NDEs with an individual, with their ward (like in a testimony meeting) or on more public forums like a post or book. I don't see how these things fall within the stewardship rule as they don't tell anybody but the dreamer to do anything, if they did that WOULD be a huge red flag!...even then if it was a righteous thing the listener might want to run it through his or her own test of the Spirit. Heavenly Father does sometimes use people we know to reach us/teach us through inspiration he gives them and they are not always "above" us...they could be dear friends or acquaintances. I truly believe that some people are more inclined to this spiritual gift than others. We also know that in the last days Satan will deceive many. I think that is why every conference (more so lately it seems) we are told that you won't survive spiritually (perhaps physically) if we don't have a personal ability to follow inspiration.
  11. I put in a tomato patch using this method this year and I am very happy with it. My neighbors are watering their gardens twice a day and getting little from it. I've been watering my little patch once or twice a week (when the dirt at the bottom feels dry.) Things are looking promising for having plenty to can and give away in the next few weeks. Since I don't have a tiller I put down the newspaper and then compost and woodchips from the dump. I planted the tomatoes as deep as I could so they would benefit from lots of roots. If I had it to do over I would use thicker paper (like large pieces of cardboard) with fewer edges for runner weeds to find an opening through. You can do the work of preparing in the fall and have it ready to go for the spring. I didn't do it right though as so far I have only put down a couple of inches of woodchips. 12. For whatever reason two of the stores on this list had limited supply of the things I normally buy last time I went in. You might call ahead before making a trip to make sure that what you want is currently in stock. One of the stores said they would back order for me. So now is still a very good time to get what you want although for some things you may have to order and then wait.

  14. FYI the Fed's debt numbers are just the tip of the iceberg as the total credit market debt is 357% larger than GDP at present. That means that a family of four's portion would be around $691,000. US and global debt is currently increasing exponentially and we are at the tail end of that exponential curve to unsustainability. Of course there are different numbers and you can choose the ones that you want to believe, but the important thing is that exponential growth in debt is unsustainable.
  15. "That expansion of D3 or extreme conditions intensified quite rapidly and we went from 11.9 percent to 28.9 percent in just one week," Brian Fuchs, a climatologist and Drought Monitor author, told AFP. "For myself, studying drought, that's rapid. We've seen a lot of things developing with this drought that were unprecedented, especially the speed." (AFP)
  16. The US Drought Monitor reported a nearly threefold increase in areas of extreme drought over the past week in the nine Midwestern states where three quarters of the country's corn and soybean crops are produced. AFP: US 'extreme drought' zones triple in size
  17. Drought and scorching temperatures in Eastern Europe from Poland to Romania also have burned up crops, causing alarm about stockpiles and soaring prices. Russian wheat harvests will also be cut by drought and Indian harvests will be cut by the poorest monsoon rains in four decades, officials said on Thursday. (Reuters) This is the first post I've heard about Poland and Romania and it sounds like India has greatly worsened.
  18. Seven indicators of inflation all hitting at the same time does NOT bode well... *The Philly Fed index of factory activity is in the red for the third straight month. *Retail sales are also down three months in a row (April-June) . *Jobs: A non-farm payrolls reading south of 100,000 for July would make four in a row. *Disinflation: Inflation is trending down and the flat to negative readings in the past three months has led to a mild deflationary environment *Exports: The ISM manufacturing export orders index in June sagged to its lowest level since July 2009 *A 40% surge in grain costs in just over a month is going to hit Americans’ household budgets hard. Every recession going back to 1970 was preceded by a squeeze from soaring food prices. *Fiscal Cliff: When your economy is running at barely more than 1%, a 4 to 5% drop off the fiscal cliff is not pretty. “Go back to the last two times we saw anything close to a fiscal withdrawal as intense as what seems in store for 2013 — we are talking about 1960 and 1969 — and recessions did ensue.” David Rosenberg: Seven 'extremely rare' events that show recession risks are rising in America | Economy | News | Financial Post

  22. Corn prices are up 54% since June and it is trading at an all-time high of $8 a bushel... "...the past month temperatures across eastern Italy and the Black Sea region into Ukraine have consistently hit 35 deg C (95 deg F) or more. That’s five degrees higher than normal and a temperature that hinders corn production, said Cedric Weber, head of market analysis at farmers’ advisory firm Offre et Demande Agricole. ...India, meanwhile, has put off corn sowing because of a late monsoon season while Australian crops are also facing below-average rainfall. “...in Europe we’ll need to import a lot of wheat and corn,” Weber told Bloomberg. “That’s just adding to the problems we’ve got everywhere.”" Food prices set to rise as corn feels the heat - Business News - Business - Evening Standard
  23. Ten pages, but so many things to think about. With 1 out of 4 young women being molested as children there are a lot of women out there that have really been messed up by evil. I've known some of those that have put a great deal of money and effort into staying "perfect" physically as they feel that is their only value, other's use weight as a shield or form of protection. A very prominent LDS family in a community in California had 7 children 5 of them very beautiful girls. The mother was one of the most attractive women I have ever known personally as well as the wealthiest around. He married perfect beauty and money and successfully went into politics, yet molested all of those girls their whole lives. He eventually went to jail. My point is that regardless of emotional or physical attraction in a marriage there is no "excuse" for infidelity. The Lord asks single people to stay morally clean their whole lives. People with same sex attraction as well. But suddenly when people are married if they are unhappy because they don't have enough emotionally or physically they are justified in seeking it from children (my wife was sick or in the hospital having another baby was the excuse of the guy above) or porn or prostitutes or the neighbor's wife or husband or ... .
