  1. Hello I just joined the group here. My family joined when I was ten, I am now 60. I have 5 children none in the church and have been inactive the last 30 years. I started going back last October, stopped again in December when a huge personal/family crisis surfaced and returned again about two months ago. I am glad to be back, I pray every day that my husband will also come back, and that my children and grandchildren may somehow be brought to the light of the gospel. Guess thats it for my introduction for now.
  2. Yes you can can powerdered milk at the cannery you can can other items or buy them in bulk or already canned at the cannery.
  3. Hello, I also have been inactive for about 30 years, I went back to church for the first time last Sunday. My husband is still inactive currently, I pray that will change and none of my children are interested in the church. When I went by myself last Sunday it was Fast and Testimony meeting, I took the Sacrement for the first time in all that time and then I was prompted by the Spirit to give my testimony. Everyone was loving and inviting. Now my situation was a bit different in that over all that 30 years my testimony never wavered, I knew the church was true I was just lazy and used other excuses not to go or to live worthily. I even had my records follow me as we moved around even though I never went to meetings. I can assure you that you will be welcomed with open arms. If it makes you more comfortable meet with the Bishop first, but you certainly don't have too. As for re-joining, again speak to the Bishop but if you just asked to have your names removed from the rolls, that is not the same as being excomunicated, that is when you need to be rebaptized. I expect your records were simply sent to Salt Lake for safe keeping, and that what is required now is for the you and your family to repent and start living the gospel and keeping your covenants, and see if the Ward Clerk can obtain your records. If anything else is required again the Bishop will be the one to tell you.
  4. To the OP, Someone gave your friend the wrong end of the stick. They either heard some other misguided person say it or something. It is not correct. The proper thing for you to do though is to speak to your Bishop about it. He should be able to ease your mind. By the way all the time I was growing up in the church it was a 2 year supply. As for building your supply, make it a priority but don't overdue it, do a little each time you shop, or put a few dollars aside for the "bigger" stuff till you have enough for a trip to an LDS cannery etc.
  5. First of all regular not instant dry non fat milk should be mixed in a blender if possible adding some of the water first then the power mix a little then add more water. If you want a richer flavor you can add 1 TBLS per quart of Non Dairy powdered creamer mix well and then allow the milk to sit in the fridge over night before trying to drink. Of course it helps if you are already used to drinking fat free milk as your usual milk.
  6. Popcorn makes the best cornmeal, the regular corn is better to make corn flour. I use a Marathon Unimill with the stones and it is actually recommeded to use popcorn to clean the stones. But popcorn makes a corn meal much like the Quaker Corn Meal you buy in the store.
  7. You do NOT need to use an oxygen absorber if you are sealing your mason jars with a vacuum sealer only if you are NOT using one in which case you put in the dry food, add the oxygen absorber and then put on the lid and ring, once the jar seals tight from the O packet you remove the ring. Also I have used the coffee filter idea with flour, not milk yet but same consistency and it worked fine. also if your food saver has a dry rather then wet setting use that.
  8. Speaking of Pop Corn, I believe that popcorn makes the best ground corn meal for the grind it yourself person.
  9. I recently, like last week, found the New Family Search site and downloaded the software and started looking up ancestors. Now I have been using the Program by Ancestry.com for some time and Have a list of about 2450 ancestors. Well as I started looking on Family Search, I found mistake after mistake regarding my relatives. It seems my Paternal Grandmother's Father has been sealed to an entirely different family, and now I have to go get birth and marriage certificates for several people to the tune of $70. to send to them in hopes they can correct it. They were missing my mothers endowments though they did have her sealing to my Father, and One of my further back grandmothers seems to be sealed to six different men. and that is what I found in just a few days. I am frankly flabergasted that a church sponsored site which shows the work done for people is SO messed up. Do they just do ordiances for any name they find and hope it is sorted out later? or what? The idea of the site is wonderful but the execution of it is terrible. I am very upset by it myself.
  10. Hello everyone. I joined the church in 1962 at the age of ten my family all converted at that time, except my sister who had joined earlier. I have been inactive for about 30 years. and only recently returned to the church. In fact while I watched conference a week ago, this Sunday was my first actual time back at what would have been Sacrement meeting but was in fact Fast and Testimony meeting. I used to be at one time a coucellor in the Relief Society where I was living and I also ran a food storage store for a while. I just recently got back into food storage and preparredness. I have been dehydrating my little heart out. Canning, vacuum sealing, the works. This past Saturday was my first trip to the Cannery in Worcester to get some things. We canned milk, Husband sure looked cute with his apron, hair net and beard snood. Looked like he was going to perform surgery. LOL I have five children only 3 of which were ever baptized and non are active. So I feel a lot of guilt over that. I am working my way back through repentance and keeping the covenants that I made. It was nice to find this forum.
