  1. Former LDS President Hinckley said, "As a Church we have critics, many of them. They say we do not believe in the traditional Christ of Christianity. There is some substance to what they say. Our faith, our knowledge is not based on ancient tradition, the creeds which came of a finite understanding and out of the almost infinite discussions of men trying to arrive at a definition of the risen Christ. Our faith, our knowledge comes of the witness of a prophet in this dispensation who saw before him the great God of the universe and His Beloved Son, the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ". Which LDS prophet first gave the witness about Jesus being the firstborn son of heavenly parents? Jonah
  2. Does "would not" equal "could not"? What about "did not"? https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/new-era/1973/09/q-and-a-questions-and-answers/why-did-the-lord-command-adam-and-eve-to-multiply-in-the-garden-of-eden-when-they-could-not-have-children-before-the-fall?lang=eng - One important point to consider in this question is whether or not Adam and Eve could have had children while they were in the Garden of Eden. The scriptures do not say Adam and Eve could not have children; they say Adam and Eve would not have had children if they had remained in a state of innocence, not knowing good from evil. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/old-testament-seminary-teacher-manual/lessons-1-5/lesson-2-the-plan-of-salvation?lang=eng - 4. Procreation. Before the fall there was no procreation. ... Adam and Eve, in their Edenic state, could not have children, nor, as we shall see, could any form of life when first placed on the newly created paradisiacal earth. Found this other one on the church website: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/old-testament-seminary-teacher-manual/introduction-to-the-book-of-genesis/lesson-11-moses-5-1-11?lang=eng Chart - before the Fall - Adam and Eve could not have children. Cheers.
  3. Based on what I know of Islam, the spirit behind the hijab is about modesty; so it extends to other body parts besides just the head. The same principle of modesty in dress is also applicable to Muslim males. My wife and I wear modest clothing but it has nothing to do with our religious affiliation. Jonah
  4. Do you believe Deuteronomy 7:2; 9:1-5, and Joshua 10:40? Jonah
  5. I am not sure as I never heard about that. Cheers.
  6. Do you have a reference for that? Jonah
  7. Adam and Eve felt pleasure before the Fall (Genesis 2:8-9; 3:6). Jonah
  8. The contents of this thread are significantly different than what I learned in Catholicism. In respect to having children, were Adam and Eve impotent (their bodies were not physically capable), lacking knowledge (they did not know how), or both when God said be fruitful and multiply? Thanks Jonah
  9. I had some questions about what I read on the material posted in regards to the General Conference (The Message, the Meaning, and the Multitude) One concluding thought: Joseph Smith’s 19th-century frontier environment was aflame with competing crowds of Christian witnesses. But in the tumult they created, these exuberant revivalists were, ironically, obscuring the very Savior young Joseph so earnestly sought. Battling what he called 'darkness and confusion,' he retreated to the solitude of a grove of trees where he saw and heard a more glorious witness of the Savior’s centrality to the gospel than anything we have mentioned here this morning. With a gift of sight unimagined and unanticipated, Joseph beheld in vision his Heavenly Father, the great God of the universe, and Jesus Christ, His perfect Only Begotten Son. Then the Father set the example we have been applauding this morning: He pointed to Jesus, saying: "This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!" No greater expression of Jesus's divine identity, His primacy in the plan of salvation, and His standing in the eyes of God could ever exceed that short seven-word declaration. How were they obscuring the Savior? Regarding the term 'begotten', what is the difference in how Jesus was one of many spirit children begotten of Heavenly Mother and Father and the reference to Jesus being the only begotten of the Father (through an earthly woman instead of a heavenly one)? Was he begotten both inside and outside a marriage covenant between husband and wife? Jonah/Rachel
  10. Hello, I had an observation on question 7 - Do you support or promote any teachings, practices, or doctrine contrary to those of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Should they have replaced the above (which sounds a little negative) with something more positive like - "Do you support and promote all teachings, practices, or doctrine taught by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?" hello

My wife and I are Catholics. We came to the forum to learn something about the Mormon faith. I don't have a Book of Mormon but I understand it's online through the church website. Regards, Jonah/Rachel
