On a related subject, has anyone ever watched the British TV series The Real Hustle? My son introduced me to this very useful programme in which the 3 presenters enact scams on people, which are filmed, and then they re-imburse the money they have swindelled afterwards. The presenters show a whole variety of scams, such as the one Annabelli mentioned...collections for 'scam' charities etc. to thieves setting up tills in busy stores, at Christmas time, and taking payments off the customers, also using a device to record bank details from credit and debit cards and then packing up and clearing off with their takings. It really does amaze me the number of ways there are to rip off people...be warned!!

This is the 2nd time I've read this thread, and I've only just thought of what your husband may be suffering...a lack of self esteem and assertiveness. Obviously he would benefit from some assertiveness training, and perhaps some counselling in order to help raise his own image of himself... I would look at the overall picture of how your husband relates to yourself, family members, friends and work colleagues...if he is really unhappy most of the time, possibly depressed even, then I would suggest he ask his GP if there is any help available to him from the Community Mental Health Services, or just via the GP surgery's own counselling service. If he does not feel it is that serious, and doesn't want to go to see anybody about it, perhaps you could look up some books or websites that are designed to help in these areas. I wish you all the best. :)

Does the day not exist in the American calendar as Boxing Day? is it just December 26th to you all? I did try to ask somebody what was the significance of the day being called Boxing Day, but I didn't get an answer, I know that in the UK we always show sports programmes on that day, so wondered whether the word Boxing was associated with that, although it seems unlikely...I will scan the 'net to see if I can find out exactly what it is... I've just found this Wiki page all about the various histories of Boxing Day...apparently it is 'celebrated' by the UK and other Commonwealth Countries.. It seems that it has some of its origins in feudal times, when the staff of large, rich households had to work on Christmas Day and so were given the next day off as a holiday, and also received a box containing left over food from the Christmas Meal, and other goods. It also used to refer to the day on which the poor and employees were paid from a box of pennies...the equivalent of today's Christmas Bonus payments. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_Day This google search page brings up some of the other Urban Legends about Boxing Day if you're interested in reading any of the links... http://www.google.co.uk/search?source=ig&a...earch&meta=

Strawberry, I swear, when I 1st read this thread last night, I was still so tired I didn't even notice the extra 100,000 posts that PC had apparently made!!! A great joke/slip of the pen Heather, Well Done!! LOL -
I'm sorry that you're being ripped off in this way Annabelli, and I wonder too, how you know that these people are calling in that their cards have been stolen afterwards too? I sometimes ask my family or very close friends to help me purchase items online using their credit cards, and I pay them the cash to cover this...most of the time I place that cash into their bank accounts instead of just handing it over to them...I have no idea whether they then inform the company that they have lost their card or had it stolen...at least I have paid for the item I've purchased, I haven't had to pay more. I would suggest you do as miztrniceguy stated, and pay your bill separately and explain to anybody who enquires, that you never carry cash for safety's sake.

Thanks for all your replies, I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who slept thru the day! I can't believe that I'm still at No.5!! Pale, I can see you're getting very close though :)

Hi Everybody, I'm gonna bid you all a weary farewell for today (nearly 27th December here now), as I was very foolish late last night and got involved in a fierce posting battle with both PC and Pale...boy, those men wore me out!! I ended up posting right thru the night, from Christmas Night till Boxing Day morning, then went to bed and have only just woken up half an hour ago (11pm)... So...I'm gonna retire from the competition now, because I can see the end of my reign at No5 is rapidly nearing... Congratulations to PC and Palerider...you finally overtook me... Please forgive me for not joining in the other threads at the moment, I'm feeling a little disorientated! and still sleepy! Night Night folks...PC and Palerider...enjoy the rest of the battle!
