Another attempt at describing the Trinity
Stampede replied to AnthonyB's topic in Christian Beliefs Board
If i remember correctly, Wasn't that lucifer's plan? we have no free-will but we do what we are told with no choice in the matter? AnthonyB. No matter how much you describe the trinity. It will never make sense to me, not out of ignorance, but because i know it is incorrect. -
A few questions
Stampede replied to Historic_Moment's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Caffine is an addictive substance. But, It is not neccicarily going to keep you from the temple as long as you use it prudently. If medicine is required, then it is required and nobody can object otherwise. I stay away from caffine because i know how addictive it can be. I used to drink a ton of mountain dew every day. and one day i stopped and ended up with massive migraines for days. Just take care of yourself and use things sparingly, as with everything you put into your body. Church houses are open to everyone no matter what thier afilliation. everyone int he world is welcome there at any time. feel free to come and check it out. Temples on the other hand are a little different. Everyone on the earth is welcome in our temples as long as they do a few things first. namely the first principals and ordinances of the Gospel. 1: Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ 2: Repentance 3: Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins by the proper priesthood authority 4: Laying on of Hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost 5: being morally clean, chaste, honest in your dealings with your fellow men, and living your life in complete harmony with the teachings of the restored gospel. For some, this may seem difficult. but as you learn about the gospel, and pray to know if it is true. you will see the beauty and feel the spirit and come to know for a surety for yourself that the gospel is restored, and that families can be together throughout all time and eternity. The undergarments are a sacred outward showing that you are living the commandments of God and keeping your life in harmony with the teachings of the restored Gospel. They also are spiritual protection. and they are only reserved for those members who have gone through certain temple ceremonies and taken upon themselves special covenants. some joke they are "fireproof" mainly because they will protect you from the cleansinf Fire the earth will come under. but also there are extremely amazing stories where a person's life was saved miraculously and thier garments were perfectly intact when they became engulfed in flames. all the places the garments touched, they came out without a scratch..... -
Why LDS doctrine requires opposition to the death penalty
Stampede replied to chrisrb's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
There are times which God commanded someone to kill someone else. But that does nto mean we get to pick and choose then who dies and who lives. the Death penalty is wrong. Each person needs to have thier fair chance in mortality to repent and be forgiven of thier sins. Killing them does not always give them the opportunity to do so. -
Thank you for looking at it objectively and asking the appropriate sources for information. rather than relying on other sources where you could have as easily accepted thier slander and flith towards us. I appreciate your sincerity and will glady answer your questions to the best of my knowledge. They are our spirit brothers. as we are all brothers and sisters, children of our heavenly father. God created them in his spiritual likeness just as he created us. The "priesthood" existed before the world began, and in latter-day revelation (Doctrine & Covenants) we know that Lucifer was given Power similar (i don't know about equal though) to that of Christ. And when the time came to come to earth, Lucifer was angry that he was not picked for the Job and that his horrible idea was cast aside. He then sought to overthrow god and take his kingdom, but what he did not realize at the time is the true Power of God. Lucifer and his followers (1/3 of the hosts of heaven) did not have physical bodies, only spiritual bodies. God being all powerful because of his knowledge and him having obtained a physical Body, cast them out of heaven for thier open rebellion against him. Just like we were created as spirit children before coming to earth No, He once went through the same trials and tests that we went through. He is the creator of our beings, and the great governor of the universe. Jesus is the son of God, the Only Begotten of God in the flesh. His mission was one of mercy for the redemption of mankind. He is part of the Godhead which consists of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and The Holy Spirit. God, is more like a title. like the Seahawks (football) they are a sports team. each person is individual, but they work together as a team to achieve a single Goal. Such is the Godhead. God the Father requires Justice, But he is a loving Father and allowed for the demands of Justice to be satisfied through his Son Jesus Christ by way of Mercy. And the Holy Ghost is the Witness of truth, who does not have a physical Body, because his mission requires him not to have one yet. No, he obtained this through the ultimate sacrifice, being perfect in mortality he could pay the price of sin to satisfy the demands of justice for those who have ever existed and will exist on this planet. and allowing him to ascend to sit at the right hand of God and obtain the glory that is his. He testifies of Truth. he is the comforter. "the Spirit of God" He is what comforts you in times of nee, He lets you feel God's presence of love. He is the medium in which our prayers are answered. Yes, most definitely, God the father created mankind in his own image, we are in the likeness of Him. Man and Woman sealed together for time and all eternity is the only way to achieve Exaltation like our Father in Heaven. We most definitely have a ehavenly mother and all womankind is modeled after her image. Out of respect for my ehavenly father i do not wish to discuss symmantecs of matrimony. We are his children, we are made in his likeness, you can figure out the rest. At one time yes, but his open rebellion cost him everything, He comitted the unpardonable Sin, Denying the Holy Ghost while the heavens were Opened to him. jsut like his followers We can become equal to our Father in Heaven if we do all that is required of us. and this can only happen through the grace Mercy of Jesus Christ. He took upon the sins of the world so that we may be found spotless before God by obedience to all of the comandments he has given.

Julie B. Beck and her Talk "Mothers Who Know"
Stampede replied to Stampede's topic in Relief Society
they are approved by The First Presidency and there is a screen on the podium that they display thier talks so that they don't have to carry anything, and they can display certain pictures and quotes as well. And there is quite a few women who disagree with beck all over the world and it is sad that they take her talk out of context and think they are better than the commandments of the Lord to have children. It is not just a commandment to women, but to Men as well. Men who do not want children are selfish and not following the commandments just as much as women with the same attitude are. -
the Angel Moroni Point towards the spot where christ will return. In the US it points east towards the Mount of Olives in the middle east. On the other side of the world it faces the opposite direction.

Julie B. Beck and her Talk "Mothers Who Know"
Stampede replied to Stampede's topic in Relief Society
than kyou all for the wonderful comments, i was on the LDS section of Religious Education Forum - Discuss, Compare and Debate Religions in Our Online Community and it seems to me that the LDS base in particular are either inactive, more devout than the most devout of all Utah Mormons, or what they consider themselves "Liberal Mormons" or "Non-Literalist Mormons" They bicker back and forth and there is so much contention between those who claim themselves to be LDS. and there was nothign but slander towards Beck and the Ideals of the LDS church. I even brought up scriptures from D&C regarding the Voice of the lord wether it be from his voice or from his servants. and then also the one that was posted from Nephi about how the wicked dislike hearing of thier wickedness. -
Here are some questions I would like to poseā¦
Stampede replied to Proposing's topic in Christian Beliefs Board
God is intelligence, he is intelligent enough to make all thngs subject unto himself. Inelligence is learned, and it has to be learned from somewhere. If you take a look at alot of the "theories" peopel have about the universe and humans, like the Big Bang Theory, and the theory of evolution; who knows if Eons ago, a being had evolved into a perfected being full of light and truth, and from there learned how to control things? and then from there, the progression keeps going, a continuation of seeds forever and ever. Science and LDS theology works in harmony if you know where to look. Matter is eternal. it is impossible to destroy matter, you can only change its form. The smallest known particles are quarks and leptons, and those do not disappear, they decay into smaller particles that we are unable to detect. From LDS scripture in the Doctrine and Covenants 131: God is eternal because matter, energy, intelligence, and truth are all eternal. Our Heavenly Father is not a "lesser God" He is seated at the right hand of his father and so forth. He is our Father in heaven. He is crowned with the same glory of his father, and his father's father. As for the muslim thing. No, they are not christians, because of thedefinition of Christ according to Christians. Christ is more than "just a prophet" to us. Muslims follow the same line of information as we do from the patriarch Abraham. Except we do not accept mohammed as a prophet. Main stream christianity doesn't believe the heavens are open, they thinkt heya re closed and that there can be no more revelation, and no more prophets. But us LDS know for a fact that this is false, that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, and to prove it God gave him the keys of prophecy and revelation, and gave unto him the Book of Mormon as a Second witness unto the divinity of Jesus Christ. Restored the priesthood which was taken from the earth. -
thank you guys for the warm welcome

Not sure but i was in San Diego's 4th Ward, i grew up in North Park near Balboa Park and El Cajun Blvd.
-
oh i am very sure there are different tribes that are everywhere, I believe the Philipines is also a separate tribe of itself, the way the church is growing down there, the spirituality of those i know who are both members and non-members. there is something special about thier culture.
-
either way for me. i know alot of wards do it that way and only because it fits the building usage. When i was in San diego, there would be 3 wards in the building pretty much at all times from 9 AM to 5 PM..... wards all using the stake center. It was a huge stake center too, it had a central courtyard they held some events in too. i think it was nearly 4 or 5 different wards? and the chapel was always in use... it was pretty wild. one was a Singles ward, a Laotian ward, and 2 or 3 normal wards. and the chapel was huge and it barely had an overflow, the cultural hall was on the west side of the courtyard and the chapel was on the north side. then they had hallways criss crossing on the opposite side of the building, there were i think 2 primary rooms....
-
that's a shame, i married a catholic who embraced the gospel fully. my bishop told me that it was the right thing and that the Lord endorsed the wedding himself in a blessing. you never know what could bring someone into the gospel you just have to be careful
-
you cannot marry someone to change them. you either accept them for who they are or you break it off. it is that simple. Can you deal with her going to a baptist church if she chooses? or will you try to become controlling? As parents we are commanded to teach our children the gospel. in a mixed religion home it is extremely difficult to do. so tread carefully when making life-long descisions like this.
-
about the death penalty, we will have to just agree to disagree. I don't believe that they can only inherit the telestial kingdom. I get at what you are saying but I would need to do further research before agreeing with you completely. As for the rest, the context in which 132 regards is after you have entered into the New and Everlasting Covenant. I do have this question. what about infants and abortions? those children are not accountable for their sins so technically they are "innocent blood" because little children are "alive in Christ" I know the church does deem abortion acceptable in extreme cases such as Rape, Incest, or when the baby and/or Mother's life is at risk of dying. and even then they are told to fast and pray, and council with their bishop about what to do personally
-
I would suggest reading the BoM first, and then the D&C, skipping around will cause lots of questions. Man should not cousel by the flesh. nor should they judge, because whatever judgements or councels they give, they will be also accountable for. this is a warning against hypocrites and those who think they know everything. It is a Cursing, similar to plagues The Language of the Book of Mormon is "Reformed Egyptian" it is a real language that has only been recently discovered to be a real written language, Mormoni expressed concern in writing in that language because of how it came out on the golden plates. but that it was required because of the lack of space and difficulty of the inscripions. Christ, and the twelve apostles. The destruction of jerusalem is being foretold, which is why Lehi was commanded to leave jerusalem and travel down to the coast and head to the new world (the american continent)
-
It is though, it says so in that scripture. It says in V26. it is a warning to those who comit murder whereby they shed innocent blood.
-
Mothers Who Know This is a link to her talk. I have heard alot of people got upset over the contents of her talk, and i would like to know why. I thought it was beautiful and inspiring. And my wife, who isn't even a member of the church (yet) Loved her talk. I would like to ask you girls (and guys) what you honestly thought about it.
-
No it is not a contradiction. Jesus Can, but he won't. because he has said so. because We as married, sealed, and endowed members of his church absolutely know better.
-
I agree with your completely. the only sin that is onforgivable is that against the holy ghost. The reason i said that is prophets and christ has stated that there is sort of a "rank" to how easy it is to gain forgiveness. and they are (including the unforgivable at the top 1) Denying the Holy ghost once it has had a place in you and you have had the heavens opened unto you. 2) Shedding of innocent blood. 3) Sexual sins - a) homosexuality b) adultery c) masturbation Ect..... The interesting thing also is that.... an endowed member of the church who has been sealed in the temple for time and all eternity to a spouse, partaking of the everlasting covenant, Can NOT ever recieve forgiveness for the shedding of innocent blood. D&C 132:
-
Wrong about #3 those people who have comitted serious sins should be given time to fully repent of thier sins. the shedding of innocent blood is such a serious sin it is nearly unforgivable, But what if the prisoner found a Book of Mormon in prison, started reading it and accepted the restored Gospel? what if he was able to fully repent of his sins here on this earth? who are we to stop them from doing so? We are to abide by the laws of the land, but as for myself i completely oppose the death penalty.

Christ, and his apostles commanded all to be baptized with the "Baptism of John" in many occasions. the greek word for Baptism means "To Dip" and also contingently means "To Wash" but the term "to wash" derives from the act of purifying oneself during baptism. Christ was baptized by immersion by john the Baptist as an example. and he said in the Bible to be baptized in the manner in which he was. The argument for that of the limited water supplies, there was recorded people trecking across deserts to reach the ocean to be baptized properly. even in the early days of the church past 40 A.D. The Second argument is easier to argue with. the act of baptizing takes all of 20 seconds. So if you could do a baptism in 20 seconds (which is entirely possible because it is very few words spoke, and then the dipping and coming forth.) the formula follows for only one person performing the baptism: 3 per minute x 60 minutes in an hour = 180 Baptisms per hour x 24 hours in a day = 4320. Even if they only did it 17 hours straight with 1 person baptizing, that's still 3060. (and this is unprobable due to exertion on one person) Say there were 4 people with the proper authority to baptize. and say it took them 30 seconds to baptize each person. it would still only take 7 hours to baptize 3360 people. limited help? i think 4 people is sufficient. and the strength the priesthood gives strength "unto the renewing of your bodies" would be entirely possible... If they had 5 people and it took a WHOLE MINUTE to baptize each person, it would still only take 10 Hours to reach 3000 People. Math is awesome.

How soon after joining the church can you recieve a patriarchal plessing?

The effects of the spirit is much akin to the likeness of posession. In no way am i trying to degrade it by any means. But the spirit, guides our thoughts when we allow it to. The holy spirit does not have a physical body like the other 2 of the GodHead because if he did, there would be no way for him to be Omnipresent. I was taught to focus on nothing except feeling the spirit when giving blessings. and to let the spirit guide your words. I know of priesthood holders who have critisized my mother for certain choices she made that she felt the Lord told her to make. and when they gave her a blessing regarding the matter, told her she was doing the right thing. then immediately after the blessing, continued to chastize her for her actions. The Holy spirit is a wonderous thing that does literally reside in us when we are living righteously and allow it to come into our lives. When we sin, the Holy spirit has to withdraw from us because it cannot dwell in unholy temples. the more we sin the farther away it has to be. but it does and can quite literally take posession of our bodies if needed and we let it. I also knew of people that "blacked out" when giving a testimony at fast sunday. they felt impressed to get up and bare his testimony but he resisted and didn;t move, the next thing he knew he was at the podium mic going "uhhhhhhhh. I didn't want to get up here and i don;t remember walking up here but i guess i was supposed to....."
-
The only way that a demon can inherently "Posess" a body is by the person allowing it to happen. the person must be so deep in Sin, that Satan has that power over thier physcial Body. Spontanious demonic posession does not occur randomly like media and movies like to depict. Evil spirits can also do alot of strange things like picking people up and throwing them, beating them up physically. I know of people personaly that this has happened to. My grandfather took part in an excorsim of a house that was owned by satanists. through the power of the priesthood, He rose his right hand to a square, and with the aid of a stake president and a mission president (he was a branch president at the time) they commanded the evil spirits to leave the house through the power of the priesthood. and quite literally, there was a physcial "weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth" as the spirits were forced to leave. the house literally shook, shadows moved and wails and crys we heard throughout the house. It is a very real thing.
