I hear sometimes people talk about things liek the big bang theory and the theory of evolution as if they are nonsesical and seem as if they would take offense to the notion that we may have at one time been monkeys. The bible and the D&C and the book of Mormon are very allegorical and vage when it comes to the actual creation, describing "what" happened rather than "how" it happened aside from the priesthood power of Jesus Christ. now, that said, i will try to explain how it is possible for our theology and science to co-exist using modern theories as to the nature of the universe and the nature of homosapiens. Before i get to the main part i would like to bring up a few things that have been stated and taught within the church ever since the restoration. 1: Spirits are matter, there is no such thing as immaterial matter, that matter is more refined and requires purer eyes to see. 2: The Lord works in a natural order to things. 3: God is intelligence, just as somethign exists there is space above it and subsequently there is something to exist above that. so is one intelligence more intelligent than another and God is more intelligent than they all. I have been reading a book on particle physics and theory. and there is a hugh particle accelerator here in washington state that allows us to see the tiniest known particles in existence, Quarks and Leptons. now they only exist for a very short space of time before decaying as they are unable to sustain themselves. and thus decay into smaller unknown particles which we are unable to detect with our current technology. this not only concludes two theories, but also helps support the "big bang" theory. Thoery A: that matter is eternal and infinite, matter cannot be destroyed or completely removed fromexistence, matter can only change form, decay or split to become a differen from of matter. just as fire burns a piece of wood, it is separating carbons from oxygen and other elements stored within the matter that wood is made of. Theory B: Matter that is smaller requires "purer eyes" to see (i'm thinking of microscopes and hughe magnets in particle accelerators that provide an extreme magnification allowing us to detect Quarks and Leptons. because our "unrefined" eyes definitely cannot see it) Now, this supports the Big Bang theory as in the universe is expanding and eventually will collapse on itself and start the cycle all over again. seeing as matter is never destroyed it could possibly perpetually continue to condense and expand. that being said. our LDS theology says that our Father in heaven also had his own father in heaven and achieved exaltation along side him in a "continuation of the seeds forever and ever". My possible theory is that our heavenly fatehr could have been given or found (whatever) a "ball of matter" to organize his own universe with and for his own purposes. Now as to the theory of evolution. It states that God created man from the dust. and as we have evidence that proves evolotionary physics, could not that have been "How" God created man fromt eh dust? that over time Man was formed into what he is now? (it's a stretch and i may get flamed i know, but... it's a possibilty) we will probably never know untill we cross through the veil, but it's interesting to think about. Also for the intelligencepart. Look at what we have, Modern science and advancements in technology are all showing God's hand in helping us. The internet, Wikinomics and the mass collaberation of the world changes everything. each of us int he world know put a small pin prick of what our father in heaven knows and through things like the web and communcations, we are able to share everything with virtually anyone, everywhere nearly INSTANTLY. For me, Science is the "How", and Religion is the "why". Thoughts? Comments?

The correct religion knows and teaches the true nature of Diety, and has the proper authority to administer in his name.
-
Religion is the "Why" Science is the "How" Heavenly Father uses a natual orders of things to bring to pass his work. Science + the Priesthood = anythign possible. God is absolutel knowledge, he is more intelligent that any of us, he is the master chess player. HE is smart enought o make ALL THINGS subject to his will. That knowledge was learned. and all of the "Scientific discoveries" are all knowledge that the Lord has, and has lightened the minds of brilliant scientists to make startling new discoveries as to the nature of the universe. The Big bang? could have been when our heavenly Father was given a ball of material to organize his own universe. Evolution? could be how the materials needed to be organized to create our bodies. also, Science is not perfect. it's all about theories. You form a hypothesis, then you test it. a "scientific" discovery happens when a particular theory is tested repeatedly and then accepted as law or what have you, but the point is, science is flawed and can only get close to truth.... Scientific Laws change all the time when new evidence is provided that changes what people agreed the common law was.

Not only was Nephi commanded to kill Laban, but moses killed an egyptian and buried him in the Sand so that nobody knew. Here is the kicker to all commandments. If the Lord commands it, Do it. the lord once said "My grace is sufficient for thee." the lord commanded people to take the lives of certain people because there was no other way for the Lord's work to go forth. It is very rare but it happens. those that are commanded to do so, i'm sure repent, and the lord forgives them, he will forgive whom he will forgive. and technichally, the Lord doesn;t kill people, he calls them home, We are all eternal no matter what we do. our bodies will come with us int he resurrection. and our spirits cannot die.

My wife says I have the ability to see the future
Stampede replied to bcguy's topic in General Discussion
There are miracles all around us, and i know of people personally who have seen the furture as a revelation from the spirit. Satan can not know the future, but if you start trusting in yourself and not the lord he has the power to trip you up big time. always remember that if you are able to see the past or future forwhatever reason, to remember that it was through the Lord. And if you have questions as to wither or not it was just your imaginatetion, we can always pray about things. these are not things to flaunt to the world or declare yourself a prophesier of things, but take comfort that the Lord has made things known to you for a reason. -
Hello Sister M. I am very sad for you because of your husband. But i must tell you, If he is backing out because of what seems to be silly reasons, then he must not have had a personal testimony. Do not worry about your husband so much, worry about yourself and your children. Do encourage him to come to church, do encourage him to stop drinking and such. But most importantly, make sure your family kneels down together EVERY night to pray. and together for family scripture study, It is extremely important to do that always. Pray for him. encourage him in all that he does that is in line with gospel principals. If he starts to endanger your family's well being or try to prevent you or your children from going to church, Talk to your bishop for guidance and counsel. you deserve an eternal family. Fast and pray, ask for guidance from the Lord in all that you do, and bring that to your bishop. there are no "set rules" when it comes to people's eternal lives. "Work out your own Salvation" it's all between you and the Lord. some people can be encouraged into doing things, other need a shock. it depends on the person but i know the Liordf loves you and cares for you and will do everything he can to help you if you let him.

yeah it is wierd because Wieght is a measurement of gravity on any object of Mass. The earth's Mass if calculated by earth's gravity would be that high. If equated with the gravity of a larger planet it would wiegh more because the larger a planet, the more gravitational pull there is.

When i got re-active in church, my friend's constant swearing (the "F" word every other word sometimes) really bothered me, and i just told them straight up to knock it off. they don't realize it because it is so natual to them. i didn;t realize it untill i got back into church how much i was swearing and talking about inappropriate things. if you still want to be friends with them (nothign wrong with that) just take them aside and tell them nicely and tactfully how you feel about what they talk about.

But the thing is th Quran was written by Mohammed as prophesies, Much as we see the Doctrine and Covenants. The Quran was never sealed or translated and did not come out of the dust from jerusalem.
-
I'm very sorry to hear all of that. have you talked with your bishop about what to do? tellh im everythign he is there to help you and listen to you. he is given discernemnt and the avalability of revelation regarding the lives of those whom he serves. Some times when people pray to the lord for help at home, he doesn't zap them with warm fuzzy feelings, but instead gives them opportunitites for the family to pull together and love one another. When people ask for courage, does the lord give them courage? or does he give them opportunities to be courageous? i learned a long time ago, that if trials keep happening to me, i haven't learned something yet, and that i need to pick up and learn wht i'm supposed to. I really hope the best for you in your life and hope that everything works out. :)

TBD, I Was inactive from the time i was 16 till about 7 months ago. You should ask yourself this question "Why did i leave?" then i want you to think about the times you were at church, did you feel love and comfort? think about those times and ponder it. how did you REALLY feel? Here is another question you should ask yourself. "If i go, will my husband support me?" he doesn't have to go or believe anything but he should be able to support your own descision to go back to church (if you do) I was in a relationship for a couple years and i was living with the girlfriend at the time. and i felt this strong desire to return to church, She didn't have to go, but i needed her support in the matter, and she couldn't give me that, she scoffed at it and made me feel stupid. so i dumped her. I only left because i felt guilty over the things i had done and was too afraid to step up and face my consequences, and when i didn't go back, i never was ANTI, and i never lost my testimony, and wherever i went i found the church and had my records transferred. Well, when i was dating my wife I again felt the desire to go back to church. she had never really heard of it and she was raised catholic, but she still supported me in my descision and let me go to church and even came with me on occasion, then i started getting my life straightened out. this last weekend i was able to baptize my wife, she started investigating the church and found so much peace and love and truth in it and she loves it. she did all that on her own, i didn't do anything. she even told me at one point that "I don't want to learn about it" and that "our children will get baptized before I do". If you want to go back to church i would encourage you to go. It is an amaing experience that you pick up on when it has been gone from your life for so long. If not, I can only hope that one day you experience something that lets you see the gospel for what it really is.

same thing with the Saudi Arabian border along the south, in the Book of Mormon Nephi mentioned a place where they found Iron Ore. (very common in Joseph Smith's day) but of rarity and very much use during biblical times. Only recently did they actually find iron ore deposits in the same area they suspect the Book of Mormon says Lehi and his family treked to the ocean.

Okay, so Saturday was a big day, very long but well worth it. The ward members put together a wonderful program for my wife. She enjoyed it alot. She came into the waters of baptism, stunningly beautiful in her white jumpsuit. i couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. She stood in front of me in the traditional way. I raised my hand, said the words required, and then placed her into te water. I wish i could have opened my eyes more but my eyes were swollen with tears and i think the spirit guided my movements to bring her back up out of the water. I kissed her on the forehead and looked up to the elders to make sure everything went okay. they said "good" and so i turned to escort anna to the side of the font, and when they closed the curtains. my wife turned to me about half way up the steps and said "Thank you" with a smile. Then we had refreshments thanks to a few of the members, and another member who sang for her during the program took us and the missionaries out for taryaki. then we came back for the trainign meeting. The following morning i got a call saying we had new home teachers and that to start things off right, they should participate in her confirmation, So my EQ president (the one who gave me the Priesthood), bishop, the elders, our home teachers, and the ward mission leader all circled her while i gave her the blessing. It was beautiful. Earlier int he week I had thought about giving her the blessing and things came to mind that i wanted to say, but i didn't want to do it that way, i would pull my mind away from thinking about what to say to other things. I wanted to not know at all what to say and let the sprit guide me in my words when it happened. one of the sisters wrote everything down as fast as she could so that i could type it all up later. (i'm so thankful for her) and upon reading it after the fact, i thought "I said that?" there were a few things she wrote down that i didn't know i had said..... then i realized I could only remmeber bits and pieces of what i said. and it was beautiful. The baptismw as short, and special, but not as special as the confrimation the following morning. She is a wonderful woman, she is extremely special to her father in heaven, she is stronger than i am in many ways. and puts me to shame when it coems to scripture study.

How amazing is it that a teenager can preach the gospel? That christ's gospel and the plan of happiness is such a simple thing that an 8 year old can understand the basics of it. Granted there are so many facets to the gospel and appendages that are really far out there, but those are not required to have a testimony that the gospel is true and has been restored. My wife was hesitant to go to relief society as well when we first started going, we just went to sacrament meeting. Then one sunday, a sister snatched her away and invited her to relief society, which my wife couldn't come up with an excuse not to go, so she went, and loved it. It is her most favorite meeting, becaus eof all the women she has so much in common with.

I do believe they are talkign about the Gift of the Holy Ghost, which is different than the promptings of the Holy Ghost, or his mission. The Gift of the Holy Ghost is what cleases us from Sin. That could not have an effect untill Christ was glorified. Because it is through the atonement that the Gift of the Holy Ghost basically transfers responsibility of our Sins to Jesus Christ. but the Hoyl ghost had been working miracles and confirming truth in people since the time of Adam. But in reality, Sins could not be forgiven until Christ had performed the atonement.

I do feel that the majority of obese people just "Don't Care" about thier looks and do nothing or little to change it. My mother on the other hand, was obese, and she could nto help it. Her body chemistry, and her back problems led to complete immobility in 1992 after a serious car accident, and she had to wear a body cast that was molded to her torso. when she passed away, it was because she was finally getting better and her wieght had started to shed away, But that caused other problems, mainly her stomach which pulled down and sagged, and eventually an artery in her stomach perforated and she bled out internally and there was nothing doctors could have done. My mother didn't just die from obesity, she died trying to loose it, but because of her body type and chemistry it was extremely difficult. But like i said, the majority of people Can do something about thier weight but choose not to and that makes me sad.
