There are other practical reasons why the KJV is likely to be the most accurate version of the bible. It was the longest, most systematic and detailed translation effort to date. It was also carried out by the largest number of linguists in committee across a significant number of years.

No other group of translators can say the same.

So how does that affect people who cannot read english?

That my friend is the million dollar question. Just last week my mother in law, whom I love as my own (by the way, she thinks I walk on water...don't tell her) just found out in our weekly dinner get-together that James (Santiago) the apostle that wrote the letter inteh NT was the brother of the Lord!!! The only reason why she believes me is because she know I would never lie to her. We read certain passages side by side.

You see, Casidoro de la Reyna, allegedly the first full translator, was a RC monk in exile so as he is translated the bible he brought some serious baggage to the process. There are words in English that do not appear in Spanish, and he used different words in Spanish for the same word in Hebrew or Greek according to his own understanding and theological bias. There is no concordance or footnotes in the RV because of the lack of consistency.

Last but not least, there is no certainty in the translators, who they were, what were their credentials or how long it took. In other words, those who read the bible ONLY in Spanish are at a serious disadvantage and in fact cut off from a rich and enlightened traditions that have been denied to them by the translators!!! So it does matter.

This is a perfect example of what I do not understand and think is wrong concerning the Bible and the many versions we have today. Many claim that the Bible is from G-d (which is one G-d). When we versionize the "way" we add to the loss of unity and oneness both among believers and G-d. Often when we versionize a truth we do so in a manner that we place ourselves at the center of things - making the entire effort to see a "selfish" effort.

The purpose of learning of Christ is to turn away from our "selfish" nature to one that can see with new eyes that is enlightened and not selfish.

The Traveler

This is the argument the Catholic Church used to oppose translations in the first place. Do not allow the people to read and study the Bible--let the church be the dispensor of God's message--otherwise unity will be lost.

Providing an accessible rendoring of God's word into people's hands is a godly endeavor. I do not fear putting God's truths into the hands of his people, and disagree with demands that those who approach it must first overcome stumbling blocks, such as archaic, 17th century English.

Again, I'm not against the KJV--but I do oppose KJV-onlyism. :D

Perhaps no other group could in 1611, but these very same arguments could be used to support modern efforts, such as the NIV.

sorry Traveler i meant that people should use their agency/spiritaul enlightenment to decide which Bible(version) to read .

my own belief the truth will always stand regardless which bible you read eg love being the core of the gospel teachings

Being shown by Christ how to become "selfless" is the essential key to not only enlightenment but true love i suppose if your unity does not involve this element then we build houses on sand:)cheers

If you want an amusing, and possibly sacrilegious Bible...

Dude!

The Brick Testament

I knew I'd like it when I read the site owner's self-written about page:

"Most ministers, priests, or other religious clerics would not actually use "The Reverend" before their own names, for to do so would be presumptuous and rather vain. The Rev. Brendan Powell Smith is not an ordained member of any earthly church, and is widely regarded as being both highly presumptuous and extremely vain."
