Elphaba Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 A record number of babies were born in the USA in 2007, according to early federal data released Wednesday that some demographers say could signal an impending baby "boomlet." The 4,315,000 births in 2007, reported as "provisional" data by the National Center for Health Statistics, gives just a glimpse of what's ahead in the nursery.. . . .The last time the number was this high was in 1957, in the middle of the baby boom years; about 78 million Americans were born from 1946 to 1964. Demographers have been monitoring gradual increases in recent years; data for 2006, which won't be made final until September, show a 3% increase over 2005. That's the largest single-year increase since 1989.~~~~~~~~~~This should make Fiannan's day.Elphaba Quote
Moksha Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 This should make Fiannan's day.Elphaba Especially if they found that many of these young mothers adored fit and trim middle agers. :D:D Quote
NateHowe Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I don't think it's much of a story or much of a shock - according to the article, 1997 approximately equaled 1957 in the NUMBER of births in the U.S. The population of the U.S. was significantly smaller in '57, so the birth rate then was a big deal. We have just slowly risen back to that point. The actual birth rate (births per 1000 population) is not startlingly high. Quote
pam Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Obviously birth control wasn't used as much which would also make Fiannan happy. hahahaha Quote

Afterall, we're destroying the earth by having babies. Well, okay, maybe all those disposable diapers is bad for the environment, but that's as far as I'll go on that one. Quote
