JcDean78 Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 As some of you might know, I am computer programmer in real life. In my spare time I have been working on a video game called Point of Existence for the last several years. The game is called a mod because we take the base game and modify it for users that have purchased the base game. Electronic Arts loves it because we give their product added value and in return, we get experience in the game industry much like an internship. The team we have is made up from people all over the world and each of us works on it in our spare time. Many of us started in modding and eventually worked our way into real jobs in the industry or got experience that we were able to use for a real life job.Anyway I do not know how many gamers we have here but we are about to release the latest version of our mod for Battlefield 2. For owners of the game, our mod is free. Here is our website Point of Existence // A Battlefield 2 ModificationWhat I do on the team is create the levels that the game is played on. So when you enter the world, I create that. What I have tried to do is research real life places and then create the terrain based on that. If anyone is interested, check out our site. Here is a you tube video of one of my latest maps. There are also way more videos of the mod on YouTube as well. I hope this interests some of you. Quote
Hemidakota Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 My son plays the mods made with the earlier Battlefield 1942 and presently plays online with the BF-2. Nice.... Quote
JcDean78 Posted July 21, 2008 Author Report Posted July 21, 2008 That is great, 1942 is still a very popular game and many great mods on it. I worked with the FH mod team some but on their BF2 mod and not their 1942 one. Quote
Hemidakota Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 His only complaint, there is not enough bots in the game since we have the latest quad core and the latest due core video card. Quote
JcDean78 Posted July 21, 2008 Author Report Posted July 21, 2008 We have bots in our mod and I have pushed them to over 100 before. Not sure what the limits are for 1942 but my guess would be around 60. Bots are great for lan parties so buddies can coops against the huge bot invasion. Quote
JcDean78 Posted July 21, 2008 Author Report Posted July 21, 2008 Yes, most of the maps do. 2 of the new maps have single player which brings us to 23 levels with single player/coop. You can also run coop with friends and take on the bots. We plan to add more of our maps in future updates with single player but it takes a bit of work to get the AI right. Quote
drjme Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 Hey JC, I'm a gamer, I'll have to dl your mod and give it a go. BF series has been great. with BF2 and being the best (better than 2142 imho). I see bad company isn't coming out on PC, but they've got 5 BF's in the works apparently. like to see what they've got coming up........ Quote
palantir Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 Nice video. I'm a modder myself (though retiring this year after almost 4 years). I mod the Total War engine. It's a fun hobby, though extremely time consuming.I was lured into it through a Middle-earth idea for a mod that I eventually became the coding manager for and then team manager ('04-'07). There's a video at the official site here: The Fourth Age: Total War official website - Game TrailerI then made several mods on my own (one of which was featured on the PC Gamer UK magazine coverdisk) and recently completed the mod I always wanted to do - one based on the Book of Mormon - see here: http://www.bookofmormonbattles.com/TOL/tol.htmlI have learned so many skills in doing this, it's a great pity they are free - we've had 220,000 downloads of the Middle-earth mod and it was the only TW mod to make it into the Top 100 mods of the year at moddb.com, and made it into PC Gamer mag Good luck with your release! JcDean78 Posted July 22, 2008 Author Report Posted July 22, 2008 drjme, yea they have BF3 in the works. Soooo many rumors on it and they really do not tell us anything anymore. When it gets closer to release I am sure they will get all buddy buddy with us to try and get our team to switch to BF3 like they tried to do with 2142. The only mod that actually switched was the Star Wars mod and that was so they could have the ATAT walkers and space combat. palantir, that is awesome!!! Whata great opportunity you have had. I love doing this as well but as time goes on it gets harder and harder to find time to do it, especially now that I have a rug rat at home. I am totally going to have to check out your work. We also were featured on moddb.com when we won mod of the year for 2006. We submit our news to them often but they have gotten really strict as of late on the images they accept which means we have to write a special news just for that site. Anyway, I hope to see some of you all in game. If you are in the states I play on the Tactical Gamer server and go by the name "Greasy_Mullet" which is a long running joke but the name I have had for like 6 years now. Quote
