CliffieDuckie Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 Who is participating in National Free Hug Day?! I'm so excited! I got t-shirts made for my friends and myself and we're going to have a huge sign and stand downtown giving out free hugs. Sounds silly, I know, but imagine getting a hug from a stranger when you're having a bad day. Hopefully it will make a lot of people happy! Quote
AngelonaWing Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 When is Free Hug day? I thought it was EVERYDAY!!! I am gonna have my hubby make one for me!! He has an embroidery business he does on the side. Quote
AngelonaWing Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 From what I read its on January 21st! I did a yahoo search. Quote
Truegrits Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 From what I read its on January 21st! I did a yahoo search. Gives hubby plenty of time, huh? Quote
CliffieDuckie Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Posted September 6, 2008 It's a new one.. It was sent around through Facebook and I guess is mostly college-age kids but I don't care! We've got about 50000 members throughout the country who are going to participate so I call it "National" Quote
siouxz72 Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 Is it in January? or sometime soon? Quote
CliffieDuckie Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Posted September 6, 2008 There's one in January and one on Wednesday. The one on Wednesday is a little "newer" (only about 3 years running) but still just as fun! I believe the first one ever was in June. I don't know why we didn't keep the original date... Oh well! Quote
AngelonaWing Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 True I asked my hubby if i could get a t-shirt made that said free hugs... he just shook his head no at me. I don't need a shirt for that! I just give em out anyways! Quote
CliffieDuckie Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Posted September 6, 2008 AH! I googled why the date changed-It's the day before 9/11. Seems like a good date to me! Quote
dazed-and-confused Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 i am 56 years old. That means i attended high school from 1966-70.....yes i was (and am to an extent) a hippie. And during those years and after, everybody pretty much was open to both giving and recieving hugs, a practice that i, personally, still like to practice. hats off to national hug day....matbe i'll start my own chapter here in florida....uh...what do i have to do to get a t-shirt? Quote
CliffieDuckie Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Posted September 6, 2008 We just make our own. Permanent markers and white t-shirts from the dollar store! (It's all college kids can usually afford... but I'll probably get some professional ones made next year) Quote
dazed-and-confused Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 cool...good enough for me !! Quote
Moksha Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 At many of the Churches I used to attend, it was pretty much standard operating procedure for everyone to hug everyone else after the service. I used to really enjoy that hug routine. Quote
dazed-and-confused Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 yeah...moksha...i HEAR ya.....when i first joined LDS, akinda had the feeling that my giving someone a hug would be inappropriate....bummer.....i actually did a couple of times to, well, break the ice?...and all i did was embarass those that i hugged...sometimes i REALLY miss the 60s. Quote
Truegrits Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 ?? HUH ?? I hug ALL the time. I even kiss cheeks. Every Sunday! Quote
CliffieDuckie Posted September 7, 2008 Author Report Posted September 7, 2008 You don't have to be from the 60s to love to hug. My whole group of friends is very "huggy" and I wouldn't have it any other way! It kind of catches the new boyfriend/girlfriends of my family members off guard. Well, I'm supposed to treat them like family and I hug my family! I feel bad for those that are embarrassed over hugs. Life must be so boring and lonely Quote
CliffieDuckie Posted September 7, 2008 Author Report Posted September 7, 2008 Free hugs..... That's exactly what we're going to do! One group of us is at the airport, another at the mall, and my group is downtown (by the hospital which is HUGE and has lots of people around) Quote
dazed-and-confused Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 ok....just watched the video....AWESOME....and..yes...i will admit it.....it did actually bring a couple of tears of joy to my face....loved it when the first cop was waving his hand and like...dude, you cant do that here,..the hugs kept coming....and towards the end when the girl hugged another cop....and he was just like...yeah..ok..whatever.........TOTAL FLASHBACK..........and the celebration of life lives on.....in hugs......ok..i'm NOT mental....really.....i just haven't forgotten the celebration of life i felt when i was younger.....and i know that lots of others havent either...and..so..ok...SOMETIMES i revert to speaking like this......think of it as a kinda...why yes..i understand what you mean...but with GREAT ENTHUSIASM........and i believe that MANY others also feel that celebration of life..according to THEIR experiences.....hippiedom was mine.............peace Quote
