Hi,

I am currently an investigator to the church. I am deployed to afghanistan but right now I am on leave back here to the states. I am feeling confused, my faith is so new and I am trying to make the right choices but I feel as if it is overwhelming. My current network of support and missionaries is still in afghanistan so I am kind of at a loss here. I have so many decisions to make and I need to make many of them right now if someone could help it would be great.

Hi Rebecca. . . if you are here in the States then there are missionaries in your area. You can look up The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the phone book. Or go to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they will have contact numbers. There is a meeting house locator there too.

This site is great. Any questions you have will be answered Don't be afraid to ask..

I suggest that in the short term that you pray and ask Heavenly Father for strength as you investigate the church.

Rebecca,

You will find that the Church is a family everywhere, and they will happily embrace you as a family member, regardless of the branch/ward you are in.

You will also find that no matter what situation you find yourself, or place you are in, God is always there. Study the scriptures, pray, and seek the Spirit to guide you; and you will have His angels bear you up.

First of Rebecca, welcome you to this forum and congrats on your baptism. Now, which military branch are you with?

Just adding to others informative posts, you will have a supporting family here on this website but when you return to Afghanistan, look for your local LDS Lay Leader. There is a in-country LDS support group to help you. If you need help to see who this person is, just PM me and I will task the Military Committee to search it out.

A member of my High Priest's group is currently in a branch presidency in Afghanistan. He returns in December to the states.

We are blessed with having the Church organized even in war zones.

Hi Rebecca,

Glad you are investigating the church and that you found us on this forum. It's a good place to learn. And even better place is with the missionaries and you will feel the spirit as you learn from them. I encourage you to find them and go to church.

Here is a more direct link to finding a church in your area. Just enter your address and it will find a place near you.

You will find good members and missionaries there who would love to help you, answer your questions and be a friend. There are a lot of wonderful teachings to learn about.

Good luck and please let us know how you are doing.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has given a moment of their time to write something here. I just need support right now and that is exactly what the Lord has provided. I got to talk to my friend who introduced me to the church this morning and that was a great help as well. Everthing that has been written here are all things that I have heard and I just needed to hear them again. I have looked up the missionaries in my area and hopefully I will get a reply soon, so that I can sit down and talk with them. I will continue to pray and read the scriptures and just ask God to guide my heart in the right direction, my attitude towards so many things has changed and it is just so hard to see the clear path sometimes. As to answer the question of my branch/ward I haven't been baptised yet so right now I guess I really don't have one yet, but it will probably be the 2nd Ward of Cooperas Cove Texas or Killeen. I am on leave from deployment with the army in Afghanistan right now and will be returning there after the 31st of Oct. I just need to stay strong until I can return there as crazy as it sounds I feel more at home there right now then I do since I have returned here. This is truly a test of my new found faith and my convictions... I hope that I can make the right choices and stay strong.

Not a whole lot where I am at just the usual, I really miss the Sunday Sevices though, maybe I will be able to attend a service while I am on leave. Oh an AFGHAN is still HOT and Dusty. LOL

Glad to hear back from you Rebecca. I'm sure the missionaries will get back to you but if not call them again. I hope you can make it to church tomorrow and feel the spirit there and meet those missionaries.

I hope you will PM Hemi to help you find out who your LDS Lay leader will be in Afghanistan. My son was in the Navy and it was hard keeping his faith strong. So I hope you will stay in contact with other members over there and that will help.

The gospel teachings are wonderful and full of hope and they are true. And there is a great Relief Society program for the sisters in the church that will give your faith strength.

And thank you for serving our country. Many times in our temples when we pray in our prayer circles, our military men and women are included in our prayers and we pray for them in our homes.

Bless you!
