L_and_P21 Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 it really only took 15 days for Obama to mess up? i was gonna give him about 6 months. but ill give him mad props for admitting his fault. shows integrity. Quote
Guest Godless Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 If I had to guess, I'd say it had something to do with nominating multiple politicians to Cabinet positions who have histories of tax evasion. So yeah, Obama's only human, not a deity as some have previously thought. Big surprise there. Quote
Dr T Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 hahaha, well that might not be a BAD thing. Haven't you ready my rec to audit them all? This can get use out of debt! hahaha Quote
Guest Godless Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Yeah, I saw that thread. It's not a bad idea at all. Quote
LittleWyvern Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Not only did he admit his own fault but he fixed it quickly. Very impressive. It's a refreshing change, isn't it? Quote
MarginOfError Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) If I had to guess, I'd say it had something to do with nominating multiple politicians to Cabinet positions who have histories of tax evasion. So yeah, Obama's only human, not a deity as some have previously thought. Big surprise there.I've only heard of three of his nominees having tax problems. One of them, I believe the Treasury Secretary (Tim Geithner), wasn't determined to be committing tax evasion. He worked for several years for a foreign company that didn't withhold social security or medicare taxes, meaning that he would have to pay those to the IRS on his own (he received a bigger pay check to compensate for that). He did in fact pay these taxes to the IRS. But apparently he didn't realize that he was required to pay both the employer and employee portions of that. Thus, he only paid half of those taxes. What's more, the IRS never caught the error. The Obama Transition Team spotted it when they were vetting the guy and informed the IRS. The IRS performed an investigation, ruled it negligence, and he promptly paid the back taxes due.So there's one of the three. Dasche pretty clearly was guilty of tax evasion. I'm can't remember who the other one is and haven't heard his story. Obama's willingness to look into the case and drop the nomination says a fair amount about what his cabinet will be like.Geithner's Tax Error A Common One, Expert Says Edited February 5, 2009 by MarginOfError Quote

L_and_P21 Posted February 6, 2009 Author Report Posted February 6, 2009 he already admitted his mistake. but his spokesman avoided the question (anyone surprised?) when he was asked if they would look more closely at the candidates from now on. hmmmm... seems like a red flag. Quote
Palerider Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 They had to hurry and pay them like yesterday, before someone noticed.....sorry....all kinds of red flags...:) Quote
