Snow Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Last year the rumor was that Richard Dutcher (Army of God, Brigham City) was trying to get Val Kilmer to star in his new Joseph Smith movie. Then the rumor was that Kilmer passed on the role.Richard Dutcher spoke last month in our study group (I didn't go but read the report). Dutcher says that the script is finished, the funds are raised and he hopes to start shooting in the summer. He says that Val Kilmer has express high interest but whether he does it or not depends on his schedule.Proud Duck, or anyone else in Orange County, CA... Our study group now has an Orange County branch. This month's (this Friday) speaker is Grant Underwood from BYU talking about the Joseph Smith Papers Project http://www.mesg.tierranet.com/ Quote
Guest curvette Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Why Val Kilmer? He's completely wrong for the part. Quote
Guest curvette Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Christian Bale would be good, although he'd probably be too expensive. Quote
Guest TheProudDuck Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Charlie Sheen probably wouldn't work too well ... Quote
Jason Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 I'd pick Joseph Fiennes, the guy that played Martin Luther in the 2003 "Luther" movie. Quote

I dunno if he's right for the part but he is talented and has charisma. JS was apparently dripp'n with charisma. The actor needn't be pretty but charismatic, athletic and mischevious. Quote

Faerie Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 um...val kilmer not pretty? uh HELLO!! Quote
Snow Posted March 11, 2005 Author Report Posted March 11, 2005 Originally posted by Faerie@Mar 10 2005, 08:35 PM um...val kilmer not pretty? Didn't say that. Said the actor needn't be pretty. Now Brad Pitt would be too pretty. Quote
Guest curvette Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Actually, I think the actor who looks the most like Joseph Smith would be Nicholas Cage. He's got the prominent nose, the blue eyes, and the right body type. He'd probably be too expensive too though. Quote
DisRuptive1 Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 His voice is too wrong, his voice itself totally destroys any chance of us believing that the character he plays is charismatic. Quote
Guest curvette Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 His voice is kind of nasal. Maybe someone else could dub the voice! :) Quote
Maureen Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 I still say go for an unknown actor. Since my Enterprise is cancelled there's a bunch of actors from that cast who will be back in auditioning mode. I'm sure a few of you will not know who I'm talking about but I vote for Connor Trinneer to play JS. He has the range to do Star Trek and Shakespeare, and he definitely has the ability to exude charm and charisma in a character. So who's making this list to send to the casting person? M. Quote

I think Richard Dutcher is going for a big name on purpose. I think he feels that it will attract more non LDS viewers. (although he'd probably get a better performance if he didn't limit his selection so much.) Quote
Jenda Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Maybe they should get out the death mask again. B) Quote
DisRuptive1 Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Has anyone said Christian Bale? Plus he'll be known by people. He's the new Batman. Quote
Guest curvette Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 He was my first thought. He is waaaaayyyyyyyyy too hot though. Quote
DisRuptive1 Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Oh that's right, you said it. I didn't think Christian Bale, I was thinking of the man behind Batman And, not to be rude or anything, but shouldn't we be picking an actor who will portray Joseph Smith as he really was rather than go for a good looking, high priced, actor who looks a bit like JS? I'd be able to accept someone who doesn't look very much like Joseph Smith if they were able to copy my perception of his mood and demeanor and such. Sort of like the guy from the Passion. Even though he didn't look EXACTLY like the pictures we have of Christ, we accepted for the movie, that Christ looked like that since he portrayed the demeanor that we believe Christ to have. Quote

That's just crazy, never heard of Christian Bale - what planet are you from? :)He starred in a surprisingly good film called Reign of Fire, and uttered one of my favorite lines:Only one thing worse than dragons and that's Americans. You should rent it sometime.M. Quote
