Aesa Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Let's say that a re-dedication was scheduled for the Salt Lake Temple, or any other temple that is now dedicated. Would this mean there would be an open house, or is a temple permanently sealed as only a place for the obedient members of God's Church after it's first dedication? Quote
cyoung Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 In the past only one open house has been conducted. I'm not sure what was done about the one that was burned. Quote
Wingnut Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 I have heard of some temples having repeat open houses. Quote
rameumptom Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Various temples have had open houses prior to the rededication. The view is, they are not dedicated while major work is being done on them, which allows non-temple worthy workers to renovate them. Quote
Aesa Posted May 11, 2009 Author Report Posted May 11, 2009 Oh. So if the Salt Lake Temple (I'm addressing it specifically because it just love the architecture of it specifically) was in need of renovation or something - it'd have an open house? IMAGINE the people that would flock to it. Quote
applepansy Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 There have been temples in Utah remodeled and then a short open house before the rededication. applepansy Quote

bytebear Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 The Laie Hawaii temple was dedicated in 1919, and then renovated in 1978. It had a pulbic open house before the rededication. It is currently under construction again and will be rededicated in 2010, and will probably have another open house. Laie Hawaii LDS (Mormon) Temple Quote
ReubenDunn Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Most Temples will have an open house. When I lived in the United Kingdom, the London temple had some estensive remodeling done to it, essentially the inside was gutted and rebuilt. An open house was done prior to the rededication. I would suggest however that having such an open house is not a requirement, and can be subject to individual circumstances. Quote
Lbybug Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 when the alberta (cardston) temple was re-dedicated in (i want to say 91....i was in grade 4 or 5 i think), there was an open house before. i remember going through it then, it was quite the experience. Quote
tubaloth Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 Wasn't the SLC Temple already rededicated in 1996. (Mark a 100 years) Maybe not. I thought they did something with the Filming of Moutain of the Lord (A video about Temples but also about the SLC Temple). I don't think thats on DVD or Blu-ray yet is it? I don't see anything that says anything about that. Maybe just something I made up. Quote
Aesa Posted May 17, 2009 Author Report Posted May 17, 2009 Nope. It was last dedicated in 1893.Salt Lake Temple Main Quote
Guest Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 I've been through the Kirkland Temple several times before I became LDS. It is owned by the RLDS. There was talk about it going back to the LDS Church. I wonder if they're going to remodel it once it becomes a temple again. And I wonder if the second dedication would be as magnificent as the first time. Quote
