SarahLDS Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Hello! I'm an LDS member in Ontario, Canada. I came here looking for a "non-Facebook", safe site. I am interested in meeting different members around the world and specifically searching for advice on planning a temple wedding. My fiancee and I are the only members in our family and I am having a hard time praying about how to go about discussing temple marriage with my non-member family and in-laws. Thanks for any advice! FunkyTown Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Hi Sarah, I used to live in Kitchener/Waterloo and now I'm living in London, England. I have been in your situation before, being the only member of my family and looking for a temple marriage. It's a difficult situation, but I'm more than willing to talk about what doesn't work. Thankfully, now I'm living in the UK by law we are required to have a public wedding on the same day we have a temple wedding. This means the family gets to see it! Quote
Evelin Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Hi Sarah, great to have you here. I will pray for much support. Eve Quote
rameumptom Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Sarah, start up front by planning a nice ring ceremony for the non-LDS family members and friends. It can be right after the sealing in the temple. In fact, you may not even have to mention the temple portion to them, but focus on a ring ceremony and the attendant celebrations afterward. In doing it this way, they will not feel left out, nor feel that the Church has robbed them of what they will feel is an important event for the family. Quote
Dr T Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Hi Sarah, I love you tree avatar, I often use trees too. :) Welcome to this site. Quote
Maureen Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Welcome Sarah! I agree with Ram. Ask your Bishop about planning a Ring Ceremony; but I would have it in a chapel before the reception; especially if you both have many non-member family and friends. You can make it as personal as you like. Good luck! Quote
