The Traveler makes an excellent point, there are SO many things that we use everyday that in one way or other impacts the lives of animals, like glue, gelatin, cassettes, oil, oil-based products, like plastic, and many, many more things. There are people more strict than vegetarians, called vegans, that won’t eat, or wear, anything made from animals, but unless you’re a scientist, and know EVERYTHING that is made from some animal then your just saying it, and not finding out all what you believe in, not harming any life form, which to me, is impossible.

Nothing is wasted when animals are used for meat, as we can see today's marketing of products.

As I posted before I spent some time automating a slaughter facility in northern Nebraska. While I was there I would see many semi trucks come in with live stock and many semi trucks leave with products. I was there for about a year and I never saw a garbage truck. As near as I could determine there was nothing wasted and everything was sold off for some use. I was surprised to learn that every day the kill zone was washed down with water that was captured and the water separated through a purification process to be reused and everything removed from the water was added to fertilizer.

And if anyone ever eats an all beef hotdog – you are very much a part of the eco system. It is too bad that so many other products we as humans are involved in using are not near as efficient. We are a very wasteful society but the “meat” industry is not party to our propensity of waste.

well no one really knows what's going to be there in the next life... but I imagine it as heaven basically, with lots of things to do because we're up there for eternity :P so I don't really see why there can't be meat... maybe there's some way for there to be meat and no death. it could happen... the things of the heavens don't seem to follow what we'd logically think. besides I think too many people including myself would be sad if there was no meat, and it's supposed to be eternal happiness, so... :P but I don't really know of course, just my thoughts.

We have some small glimpses of what it is like. I agree, nobody really knows and Jesus will reveal all these things when He returns. But we do know that the garden of Eden and its descriptions fit with a paradisaical state.

I am not a vegetarian, I eat meat and serve meat to my family. My chicken enchiladas are to die for, if I do say so myself. ;) And, I do not see anything wrong with being a vegetarian. But, I also believe we are here too, to try to overcome the world and not develop affinity for things that are sub-celestial. Even Jesus was tempted by Lucifer with food after fasting. Now, maybe everyone else but me knows exactly in this world what is sub-celestial and what is celestial. I only know of a few places that are celestial, the temple and I try to make my home that way too. Everything else in this world is in a fallen state, including food. I am not trying to say it is evil, it's just not celestial. And if it is not celestial I do not want to develop any attachment to it ... or at least try not to. I don't think meat is part of the equation for eternal happiness, that's my belief. That doesn't mean I think it is evil any more than I think money is inherently evil unless you develop a love for it.

I think it is okay to like meat and enjoy meat but I think when we think it is tied into eternal happiness the line has been crossed. I certainly wouldn't say money is tied into eternal happiness. And if making money in the stock market brought me happiness here I wouldn't consider it as something available in the next life just because it makes me happy here.

... Meat is good, just don't make it a "love."

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” [1 John 2:15.]
