Bini Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 I'm at the online Apple store and reading up on their fancy little iPods. I'm considering in getting one for the husband as a Christmas gift because he'll never get one himself but has mentioned interest in having one. Does anyone have any recommendations?I personally am liking the looks of the iPod classic and touch but I'm not sure if that's a bit overkill for someone that will just be downloading music and not videos. I mean, isn't most of that memory primarily for movie watching? So maybe something a little more modest like a nano may be more fitting? He basically has a bunch of old rock records that he's wanted to get out of storage and put onto CDs. To me that sounds like a tedious and HUGE hassle. An iPod (or even an MP3 player) would be a much better option, as he can search all that stuff online and with a click of a button -- download it. Quote
Guest Godless Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 I have a nano, and I love it. You're right, the Classic is geared more toward people who plan on downloading videos in addition to music. And the Touch is for people who want movies, music, and the internet. Quote
john doe Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 If just listening to music and no video, the smaller ones are fine. In my itunes file I have over 3800 songs, which translates to over 10 days of music, and it takes up 15.5GB of space. If he has lots of music or many different tastes, a Classic with 30GB of space will be plenty large enough to do the job. Quote
HoosierGuy Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 I'm an iTouch fan. I have wireless in the house so I can connect to the net thru my iTouch. Songs, video, movies, contacts, the web, email, and everything else can be done on the iTouch. My iTouch is becoming more and more like a coputer to me. I also love the podcasts from the Church and other places, flipping with my finger on the touch screen, finding what I want to listen to. It's a pleasure to use. Quote
Guest Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 iTouch. get speakers for it too. Quote

Music, podcasts, contacts, scriptures, priesthood manual...all right there on that thing. I'm a big fan. Quote
beefche Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 I have a Nano and love it. But, I have way too many songs that doesn't make it onto the Nano. So, if he has a large collection and would want to listen to anything at a moments notice, you'll want to get something bigger than the 8 GB Nano. You can put whatever songs you want on it, but sometimes I forgot that I had to take off Tim Mcgraw to be able to listen to Bon Jovi--it'd be nice to just be able to switch to the group without having to download from my iTunes first (i.e. get a bigger memory like the 32 or 64 GB). Guest Godless Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 My nano has 16 GB of memory. That should fit a pretty large music collection. Quote
Bini Posted December 2, 2009 Author Report Posted December 2, 2009 Thanks everyone for your input! I decided to go with an iPod nano because he isn't interested in downloading movies or surfing the web. And he's already got a nifty little gadget that does that -- a PSP. So I ordered it online the other night and got it engraved with a little message on the back. It'll make a perfect stocking stuffer. Thanks again! Quote
beefche Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 Wow, my stocking stuffers were always toothbrushes.... Quote

Bomcara Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 My wife bought me an iTouch last Christmas, and I completely love it. I was adament on NOT getting anything "i" or from apple because they are so gosh darn expensive, and there are many alternatives out there. All I can say is I'm glad she did......it has so many features BESIDES being able to listen to music! I don't watch much TV, but found I could download the evening news and watching on my commute to work the next morning! It also functioned as an organizer, calendar, and has many applications geared toward the church. One app, called iWard, allows you do view the contact info of everyone in your ward, regardless if you have internet or not! It came in so handy in my calling when going out on visits and mapping where people lived! All I can say is you won't go wrong with an iTouch! :) Quote
