LostSheep Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 Just kidding...Don't expect a weekly post. I recently attended a personal effectiveness seminar, and they handed out worksheets for us to fill out. When I received mine, the first question on it hit me like a ton of bricks. "What is one thing that you really want in life?" I looked around, noticing that everyone else seemed to be filling theirs out. Ten minutes passed and I had not written anything. "Happiness" was the first thing that crossed my mind. But seriously, what is that? I was starting to get frustrated. "How could I know know the answer to this question?" I thought. It's hard to end up where you want to, when you have no idea where that is. I never ended up writing anything on that worksheet. The only answer I could think to put was the truth. I don't know. I'm not the type however that leaves things unfinished. I'll return to that worksheet once I know the answer. Do you know what you want in life? Not what you think you're supposed to want, or have been told to want, but what you deep down really want out of life. Be specific. Quote
dazed-and-confused Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 When I was your age, pre-LDS, i wanted to be in the navy and, if fact, i was. It was what i had ALWAYS wanted. Beyond that, i really was very confused about what i was supposed to want and what I wanted, and what i needed. That's part of the life adventure, i think, finding out what is impoetant to you. good luck. Quote
Gwen Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 good job. sounds like a very productive use of emotional energy. i hope you find your answer and finish the worksheet. as for my answer to your question.... don't think i know the whole answer and where i would start is a bit to personal to share openly. but it's always good to think about so thank you for asking. if there are any other questions on that paper you think are interesting please share. i could stand to ponder a bit more on such things about myself right now. :) Quote
Dravin Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 (edited) What's wrong with happiness? I know it's a bit vague, but questions like that deserve those kinda answers. They're like the ones that ask you who do you love most in life, they're gonna get answered with family. As far as what is happiness... well, we know what it is not:... Behold, I say unto you, wickedness never was happiness.I suppose I'm made of different stuff. But then if asked what I want to be (as in vocation) when I grow up I'd honestly answer (in the past, I'm finally getting some inklings now), "Employed." Anyway the question as posed is asking you to provide one thing, not the one thing you want above all else. So I can honestly answer with a Bachelor's Degree, a functioning high MPG car, a girlfriend, a wife, new clothes, employment, dark chocolate or a host of other things that I desire out of life without any particular attention paid to order of importance. If you insist on the one thing I'm going to insist on something like happiness to cover my bases and to be perfectly honest. Nikkie85 Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 The thing I want more than anything right now is a child. My husband and I have struggled with my infertility and it is heart breaking to know that we might never raise a child. I know that Heavenly Father loves me and has many blessings in store but it is so hard to know what you what but can't have it! Quote
havejoy Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 "What is one thing that you really want in life?" For my life to have mattered to others. Quote
Bini Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 I agree with, Dravin, and I'll cover all my bases by adding "happiness" as my final answer. But since you asked us to be "specific" I'll be more detailed. Happiness to me includes but is not necessarily limited to: my husband, my family, my pets and being successful in my personal endeavours that I've set out for myself :] Quote
