Snow Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 It's been a WHILE since signature published anything like Articles of Faith.2003.It's a photostatic reproduction of the original Articles of Faith, unchanged, which the Church no longer publishes, and contains a substantive scholarly introduction on the writing of the book by Elder Talmage. volgadon Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 There is an older volume published by Signature, entitled Saints Without Halos. This is a collection of biographies written by Leonard Arrington which show the human face of LDS history. Quote
Hemidakota Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 Agreed. Read this set on my mission. However, be warned, it is LONG (7 large volumes) and it reads like a diary. It's not an easy thing to get through in that sense.Agreed but much can be gained. Quote
HiJolly Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 The books that I have that I can recommend are:The Mormon Hierarchy: Origins of Power and The Mormon Hierarchy: Extensions of Power by D. Michael Quinn I was really disappointed by this book. Excellent research, very poor interpretation. In Sacred Lonliness: The Plural Wives of Joseph Smith by Todd Compton I liked the book. Todd was very straightforward in mentioning his opinions. Excellent research. Easy to see his opinion vs. the data, where Quinn conflates the two unconscionably, IMO. HiJolly Quote
