pam Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Yes another AI thread. Just curious what people think of the choices for judges this year as it was announced today. Randy Jackson Jennifer Lopez Steven Tyler Quote

jayanna Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 I would watch it no matter who the judges are...I can't help it, I'm just that curious. Although, I really do think that producers pick what kind of person they expect to win and go from there. I know someone who auditioned this year. He is an amazing singer/songwriter/guitar player and did not get past the first audition...he sings better than a lot of the contestants I've seen on that show. In fact, he has been doing things locally already. And I don't mean the audition in front of the judges, I mean the audition in front of the production team. Weird. HHhmmm I think I'll have to wait and see if I like the judges or not...it'll certainly be entertaining! Quote
Wingnut Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Elton John could have been comparable, but I think he would have been even meaner. I read that they asked him, but he didn't want anything to do with it. I think J-Lo is a perfect replacement for Paula, though: she had a great career while it lasted, could dance better than anyone else at the time, but no one has heard from her in 8 years, so it's time revive her career with a horrible reality show stunt. pam Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 I think it will be interesting to see what kind of a personality Steven Tyler will bring. I've not much experience with him other than seeing him perform. Quote
john doe Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Just make sure he has people holding him up. Apparently he has a problem lately of falling off stages....... Quote
pam Posted September 23, 2010 Author Report Posted September 23, 2010 I just watched an interview with the new judges. I actually was rather impressed with Tyler. Quote
rameumptom Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 I think Steven Tyler will do an excellent job. He's rather intelligent, great singer/songwriter so he knows the business, and he has a very talented daughter. J-Lo will probably do fine as long as she doesn't try to be as syrupy sweet as Paula was. She knows the business and is a decent singer/dancer. Randy is good in the music business, but is a terrible judge. He has about 3 adjectives and nouns he uses. He is better than Simon, who only knew how to criticize. He rarely gave any quality advice to the singers. Piers Morgan (AGT), though also very critical of performers, at least knows how to give some productive guidance as people go along. And yes, AGT is much better than AI. This season showed AGT could find some amazing singers (as proven by the two top singers: Michael Grimm and Jackie Evancho. You would never see 10 year old Jackie on AI. Nor would you have seen the other great acts, like Fighting Gravity, etc. Still, I'm glad we got Carrie Underwood from AI. Really can't think of any others that are still at the top of the game, though. Quote

pam Posted September 24, 2010 Author Report Posted September 24, 2010 David Archuletta has been very successful as well. Quote
Wingnut Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 David Archuletta has been very successful as well. He's been successful. I don't know about "very." The "very" may be coming from great PR and perception inside Utah. People where I live have to think twice when they hear his name.David Cook has enjoyed more success than some other AI winners, though he is kind-of slow-going right now. Quote
pam Posted September 24, 2010 Author Report Posted September 24, 2010 I guess we'll see how well his ticket sales do on tour. He'll be performing in Cleveland in December. Quote
Bini Posted September 25, 2010 Report Posted September 25, 2010 Randy is useless as a judge and always has been. His critiques are just poor and always begin and end with "dawg". I'll be interested in seeing how J.Lo and Tyler deliver. Quote
pam Posted September 25, 2010 Author Report Posted September 25, 2010 I actually like Randy. To be honest I will miss Simon. Quote
