Wingnut Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 (edited) It's NaNoWriMo, actually -- National Novel Writing Month. The website is here: National Novel Writing MonthAlso, it's not really a contest, more a creative collaborative project. I've had friends participate in years past.Lizzy, you might be interested in checking out this page for young writers (17 and under): NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program Edited October 9, 2010 by Wingnut Quote

Guest Alana Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 It does sound fun:) I know I could do it. The question is, do I want to? I'm thinking some kind of fabulous end of the world, zombies roam the earth novel. Quote
Wingnut Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Alana, if you read about it at the website, you'll learn some thing about it. Part of the trick of finishing is to have an outline in advance (though nothing officially written prior to 12:00am, November 1st), and not worry about editing as you go. Just write. Keep writing, and don't worry about revision until December. Quote

Tarnished Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I will probably not participate as I have not for years, though I have wanted to. I just don't have the time currently to focus on writing a novel. I also don't tend to participate in Napowrimo National Poetry Writing Month, as again I often don't have time or end up having writer's block and am not able to write a poem a day during that month. Bluejay Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Hey, that sounds fun! Unfortunately, I'm a graduate student with two articles, two presentations and a proposal to write this month, two (maybe three) experiments planned for this winter, a huge 20-year-old data set to sort and analyze before next field season, field work to plan for next year, and my second child due at the beginning of next month. Not to mention the fact that I have been trying to write a novel since I was 17, and haven't been able to finish it in the 11 intervening years, despite having had a very good, detailed outline. Yeah, I doubt I'll be able to do it. Sigh. Quote
Captain_Curmudgeon Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 I did last year. Didn't finish by the end of the month and my novel isn't quite 60,000 words, but I did get it finished. About Isaac. Quote

prisonchaplain Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Can I get a month off from work to do this? I'll give half my proceeds to the federal government to help pay down the debt, if they'll let me off for a month to write it. Promise! Ah...I heard this lead baloon drop back in my boss' office...maybe next year. :::sigh::: Quote
