martybess Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) Can anyone remember the books that were in the old sets of the "Missionary reference sets"? Has there only been the 2 difference sets?Current set includes "Our Search for Happiness" by Elder M. Russell Ballard, "Jesus the Christ" by Elder James E. Talmage, "True to the Faith", and "Our Heritage". Seems like there was "A Marvelous Work and Wonder", Articles of Faith", "Jesus the Christ", and what else??? in the old set? martybess Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) 1- Would it be ok to say these books have been commissioned or sanctioned (lack of better word?) as books ok’d by the church? 2- And are there anymore?______________________________________________________Our Search for Happiness, BallardTrue to the Faith, ChurchOur Heritage, ChurchJesus the Christ, TalmageThe House of the Lord, TalmageA Marvelous Work and Wonder, RichardsArticles of Faith, Talmage(WOULD THESE BE INCLUDED?)? martybess Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 Truth RestoredAh yes, the first book I read. Thanks Quote
martybess Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 What about the "Encyclopedia of Mormonism"? Quote
tubaloth Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 A Marvelous Work and Wonder was taken out. Not sure why. So it use to be in there. Our Heritage is really just an updated version of Truth Restored. Sanctioned by the church? I would probably use Packers Holy Temple to replace Talmage's, even though I assume they probably cover similar things. Quote
Wingnut Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I served 2002-2004 and we had:A Marvelous Work and a WonderJesus the ChristTruth RestoredGospel PrinciplesArticles of FaithOur Search For HappinessMy mission president also encouraged us to acquire and study The Great Apostasy, by Talmage. captmoroniRM Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Lectures on Faith wasn't included in my set (the one I got in 2004 before they changed it). If it was, it was well before my time. Quote
mordorbund Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 I would probably use Packers Holy Temple to replace Talmage's, even though I assume they probably cover similar things. They're two different works. The Holy Temple focuses on preparing for the Temple and Temple worship. The House of the Lord primarily gives us a walkthrough of the Salt Lake Temple. Quote
