Blackmarch Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Cooking extracts--such as vanilla, anise, peppermint, etc--contain alcohol. In fact, they typically contain about 70% alcohol per volume, which is almost twice that in most liquors. Is it against the Word of Wisdom to use vanilla extract? Or is it ok to use alcohol occasionally when you are not intending to get drunk? How much is too much? Thanks for the help :)well generally when youre using extracts you cook it, and because of that, when you're finished, the remaining alcohol content is so low as to be virtually neglegible. You could probably ask about the same thing about breathing in an atmosphere that has a pollution content percentage..Now if you mean to drink it straight, or to dump half a bottle in a drink... that's probably playing with fire. Vanhin Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 For what it's worth, I cook with wine/beer and extracts, and I don't lose any sleep over it. But then again, maybe that's just the alcohol... Vanhin Quote
Gwen Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 i don't get carded to buy extracts..... or mouth wash or cough syrup.... i did get carded buying some carbonated fruit juice once.... lol go figure. Quote
beefche Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 I know what she's talking about. I get them too. Soda won't do it. Just not that strong enough. Mountain Dew doesn't even work and that's the strongest soda I found. Extra strength Excedrin (acetaminophen-aspirin-caffeine combo) works but sometimes I have to drink it with coffee to just stop myself from bashing my head on the wall.NoDoz pills? Quote
