pam
Okay the answers:1. The one sport in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends: Boxing. 2. North American landmark constantly moving backward: Niagara Falls . The rim is worn down about two and a half feet each year because of the millions of gallons of water that rush over it every minute.3. Only two vegetables that can live to produce on their own for several growing seasons: Asparagus and rhubarb. 4. The fruit with its seeds on the outside: Strawberry. 5. How did the pear get inside the brandy bottle? It grew inside the bottle. The bottles are placed over pear buds when they are small, and are wired in place on the tree. The bottle is left in place for the entire growing season. When the pears are ripe, they are snipped off at the stems. 6. Three English words beginning with dw: Dwarf, dwell and dwindle... 7. Fourteen punctuation marks in English grammar: Period, comma, colon, semicolon, dash, hyphen, apostrophe, question mark, exclamation point, quotation mark, brackets, parenthesis, braces, and ellipses. 8. Dravin
3. Only two vegetables that can live to produce on their own for several growing seasons: Asparagus and rhubarb. Garlic? Kale? Collard Greens? Ridicchio? Horse Radish? For some it takes a non-standard harvesting technique but it's doable (and the Kale in question is a non-standard variety). Edit: Actually you only specify they be perennial not that they be a harvestable perennial which, I'm sure, increases the number of plants who qualify. It certainly means that a non-standard harvesting technique is needed for some of the plants I put forth isn't an issue.6. Three English words beginning with dw: Dwarf, dwell and dwindle... Dweeb? There is also dwaible and dwalm (chiefly Scot usage but it is English). Edited February 12, 2011 by Dravin

Iggy
Yep, a quick search for canned lettuce turns up quite a few products. What kind of lettuce though. I read through some of the sites, and they never said what kind of lettuce. The leafy lettuce and ice burg lettuce does not freeze or can well at all. From: Lettuce - Vegetable Directory - Watch Your Garden Grow - University of Illinois Extension Home PreservationDue to the extremely high water content, 94.9%, there are no successful method of long-term home preservation for lettuce. Lettuce does not respond well to freezing, canning or drying. For optimal nutritional value, lettuce should be eaten while it is fresh and crisp. Bok Choy is cabbage- and it pickles well. First husband loved Kim Chee- and the groceries is our area would not stock it. Got the recipe from his Japenese grandmother who lived in Hawaii and made it for him- first batch blew up. He moved it from inside the front coat closet to in front of the east facing window and I ended up cleaning Kim Chee off of every surface in our small living room, and loosing a 5 gal earthenware crock Ohio Stoneware® Crock - Canning Jars, Kits & Accessories - Ace Hardware, plus having to replace the sliding glass door window. My mother made a fantastic sweet & sour salad dressing, that you served hot over leafy lettuce, sharp cheddar cubes (small bite size cubes) and crumbled bacon. She called it Wilted Lettuce Salad. UNfortunately the recipe died with her. I have tried many recipes that I have found, and they just don't taste like Mom's.
