Bini Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 How much do we know about the second coming? I've heard that in the second coming, Jesus Christ will return to Jerusalem and save His people. Is this true? If so, why are the people of Jerusalem specifically named as opposed to those in other nations? Edited to add: Aren't all of us "His" people?I'm sorry for such an ignorant post. Quote

I think this is a good question. Quote
Traveler Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Many times the scriptures make symbolic reference to people and places. The title Jerusalem has ancient meaning beyond just a city and is associated with various covenants. Likewise we see symbols in Babylon and Zion as well as terms such as Gentiles. As to the second coming of Jesus we are given many symbols and other interesting scriptures like Eccl 1:9. Those that are loyal to their covenants (that are by the power of the Holy Ghost - implying priesthood) will be like the 5 virgins with oil for their lamps. They will be ready and join Jesus in his coming. The Traveler Quote
RipplecutBuddha Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Well, given that Jesus is now a perfected, and resurrected being, he has a physical body and is thus incapable of being everywhere at once. He's gotta pick somewhere to show up On a serious note, it's a great question and I don't have an answer for it. Instead I'm going to add it to my study list.....right after the other three dozen great questions I've found on this site get answered....I gotta pray more I guess. Quote
livy111us Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Because this is the great battle of Gog and (of) Magog. To make a long story short, this is when the Jews will be pushed back to the Mount of Olives and will have no where to go. Christ will come down and set foot on the mount splitting it in two, providing an escape from the evil army. They will run through the corridor and see Christ and wonder who the Savior is who helped them. They ask what the wounds are in his hands and feet and recognize him as the Messiah. So, Christ will literally save them from their enemy, which is the most recorded incident of Christ's return to His people. Quote
Casper Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 We know a lot about the second coming of Christ, it is true that Christ will save the Jew’s and it will be when he puts his foot on the Mount of Olives; this will mark the official second coming of Jesus Christ and the saving of the his people the Jews. I say official because he has returned to the earth a number of times in the way he appeared to Joseph The reason that only the Jews are mentioned in relation to being saved at this point in time is that the other tribes of Israel are already gathered from all nations, they have gathered and built the city new Jerusalem or Zion with its center in Jackson county Missouri; and some of them will go with Jesus Christ when he stands on the Mount of Olives (D&C45) Quote

The Lord's People are those who belong to the House of Israel. Members of the Church belong to the House of Israel because they have accepted the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jews are only a part of the House of Israel... although people tend to focus on them.. they are the tribe of Judah. Most members of the church belong to the tribe of Ephraim. Quote
