abeChristianson Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 I have often wondered why Heavenly Father would use the words be fruitful and REPLENISH the earth. Was the earth previously inhabited? If so by whom or what? Just wondering... Quote
mnn727 Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Something I've wondered also, but remember, Genesis was not written in English. Quote
pam Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 My understanding is that the Hebrew word translated as replenish means to fill. Quote
Guest saintish Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 In any case i have also wondered about this, I have heard some theories that perhaps the Council in heaven picked a planet that already had life either by creation or evolutionary processes, and shaped and formed it to fit human life. possible reason for the extinction of the dinosaurs? maybe. as far as i know this is all speculation and one has to ignore or bend some of the meaning in genisis where G_d formed and created the world. volgadon Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Replenish cmes from a French word meaning to fill. Its secondary meaning of refilling later became primary. In Hebrew maleu means t fill, not refill. Quote
Daybreak79 Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 All I know is that our ward is doing a great job of replenishing / filling the earth! We have about 40 babies / toddlers in our nursery classes with more babies to come through out the year! Quote
KrazyKay Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Daybreak79, what is in the water where you live? lol. My husband and I have been trying for a second child for about 10 years now, and there are some in my ward who have been trying as well but have been unable to have another child. Quote
Daybreak79 Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 KrazyKay, unfortunitely its not in the water...my wife and I have been trying to have a second child for about 3 years while everyone around us seems to just pop them out on demand. Our bishop was joking and saying that if everyone keeps having kids he is going to call all the parents to the nursery so they can watch their own kids. Quote

We have about 40 babies / toddlers in our nursery classes with more babies to come through out the year! Only 40? We have close to 60, plus over 100 in Primary, plus another 20 at least to young for nursery. And that doesn't count the pregnant women, of which, someone new is pregnant every week it seems. This is actually quite disheartning for me and my wife who had a stillborn child this past year. For her to go and see everyone getting babies but us has really damaged her testimony.Sorry for the downer. Quote

Heh, the demographics may have changed a little, but a few years back it was reported for our stake that 75%+ or so of the stake's numbers were in primary ages. Quote
