Just_A_Guy
What does that have to do with it?Umm . . . Communism tends to breed leaders who kill people, break things, and turn humans into slaves.Mormonism/Law of Consecration/United Order? Not so much.Early Mormons declared that every man could become a king and a priest.Communists have historically held both kings and priests to be enemies of the State, and declared that every man was fit only to be a serf.Center-right Mormons find it as offensive to label the United Order as "communism", as center-left Americans would be offended to hear Bill Clinton or JFK called "sexual predators". Both terms may technically be true; but they contain so many explosive and revolting connotations as to be pretty well useless for civil discourse. HEthePrimate
Umm . . . Communism tends to breed leaders who kill people, break things, and turn humans into slaves.Unfortunately, the same thing could be said of every other form of government. Just look at the history of the U.S. Anyway, yes, after giving everything to the Church and having everything redistributed among the members, people did have title to their stuff, so it was technically private property. A term for the U.O. that people might find less offensive than "communism" might be "communalism." Or possibly "collectivism," but that makes me think of the Borg! I'd be interested to see a comparative study of the united orders and the kibbutzim.Shalom,HEP
Vort
Unfortunately, the same thing could be said of every other form of government. Just look at the history of the U.S. The united order(s) did not tend to breed despotic leaders.
