Backroads Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 This is little more than just a little thought, but it stuck with me.Yesterday a couple of my friends were sealed in the temple. It was their first wedding anniversary as well. This morning on Facebook, the wife thanked everyone who came to the sealing and/or reception, followed by the phrase-sticking-with-me "We are legit now."I thought it was a neat thing to say, especially since she is two weeks away from delivery, which I assume means their daughter will be BIC.I know in a strictly worldly sense any marriage is "legit", but somehow being sealed makes the marriage that much more real. Dreams_Of_Deutschland Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Or it's a slam on mere civil marriages being less than "legit"... Glad for her sealing, and it should be everyone's goal, but maybe it should be advertised as beautiful or wonderful, rather than legitimate? Just an observation^_^ Quote
RescueMom Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Sealing only gives the opportunity for forever, it doesn't guarantee it. It will be legit after both people endured to the end, and the end is a long long way aways. Quote
Jennarator Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Congrats to the couple! I know that feeling of wanting to be sealed. Right now, tho married and expecting, there is a bit of a feeling that we are NOT yet legit. It causes some stress. So when I hear of sealings, I can understand the legit feeling and I am happy for them. :) Quote

Just an observation^_^ One of the definitions for legitimate is:in accordance with established rules, principles, or standards...When it comes to the principles or standards of the LDS church is seems like a fitting word to use for a sealing.M. Jezebel2011 Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 However, it is VITAL for all Mormon couples to be Sealed in the Temple. They have the opportunity and they must take that opportunity in order to receive Celestial glory. That is, of course, if they stay worthy. Quote

I agree with you, it seems a fitting terminology. Quote
Backroads Posted January 7, 2012 Author Report Posted January 7, 2012 Goodness, it took me a minute to recall what/who this was about! I suppose it could all come down to the way the couple themselves see the relationship. Quote
annewandering Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 When my husband and I were sealed we felt exactly the same way. It is making it right with God more than the feeling that a civil marriage isnt legit. At least that is how I felt about it. Quote
