Spartan117 Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 The song "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak is arguably his most famous song. It came out on his album Heart Shaped World in 1989 and has been covered extensively. Some artists who have covered the song at one point or another include R.E.M., Maroon 5, Aaron Lewis of Staind, Faith No More, Tangerine Dream, H.I.M., Stone Sour and many, many others. Out of all the covers I've heard, there is one (well 2, but H.I.M.'s version stands out for different reasons) that stands above the rest. This particular cover is by Three Days Grace, done as a solo performance with just an acoustic guitar. There isn't much in the area of reinvention, and there are other covers (like H.I.M.'s) that "make the song their own" and in that sense this song lands very close to the original version. What makes this one special in my humble opinion, is that there is no attempt to make the song into something new, only to communicate the performers experience of this song, not his interpretation. He's telling a personal story through this song, and even though the words that actually tell that story are never said I can listen to this and understand that story more clearly than if I'd read a book on it.Sometimes a song is just a song. And sometimes it talks to you the same way the spirit does. This song, sung by this person, being played on a single guitar speaks to my soul. So I share. Sorry for blabbering, especially if this is just another song to you. Again, just my humble opinion Quote
Blackmarch Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 That is a good rendition. Quote
Vort Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 Frighteningly, the only 3DG song I've heard that "speaks" to me is . Not sure I want to know what that says about me, especially since I don't feel that way toward anyone. Quote
