JoshuaFKon Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 "insanity is doing the same thing over again, and expecting different results"For once I think I completely agree with Desiré Not that you're insane...but that trying again won't make it work...why do you think China is becoming more free market?I really cannot recomend "Basic Economics" enough...its really one of my favorite booksJosh B) Quote
pushka Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Thanks again for both of your comments. I did state that I don't believe the socialism/Communism of Russia and China are ideal models of Socialism, therefore they are not good examples to choose as to whether Socialism is worth trying again. I do believe that you would need a great deal of good morals within the community in order to make Socialism work, which is probably why it would fail...mankind not normally being as moral as would be required for it to work, unfortunately. It's 24 years since I studied Economics as part of a Business Studies course at College, so I am a little rusty around the issue, however I would be willing to read the book you recommended, along with a book written from the opposite point of view, please see the amazon link for reviews of the book you recommend.http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...081452?v=glance Quote
JoshuaFKon Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 I liked it.......what book would you suggest from the opposite point of view? Josh B) Quote

prisonchaplain Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I want my national government to run lean, and my local government to be fat. By that I mean that national welfare, healthcare, etc. should be bare bones. However, local fire departments, police, schools, community beautification, etc. should be well-funded. So, I find myself voted for national conservatives, and local Democrats. Maybe I'm just selfish though. Well-funded local services usually translate into higher housing values, and better neighborhoods. Highly funded national government usually translates into higher taxes. Quote
