So what Verses in the bible and the book of mormon can tell non-members more about us?What are some good teaching verses?Tell them here!

This is an excellent question. I hope LDS posters take up this call.

In my case, I have repeatedly heard that the BoM contains very little that is distinctive from the Bible, or from traditional Christian teachings. Supposedly all the unique doctrines are in the D&C. Yet, as I've slowly made my way through the BoM, every several chapters a particular verse or two will really stand out. "Oh, that's where they get that belief!" I think.

So, it really would be good for us to see some of the key passages--especially in the BoM.

2 Nephi 2:6-9 is one of my favorites:

6 Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for he is full of grace and truth.

7 Behold, he offereth himself a sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and unto none else can the ends of the law be answered.

8 Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah, who layeth down his life according to the flesh, and taketh it again by the power of the Spirit, that he may bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, being the first that should rise.

9 Wherefore, he is the firstfruits unto God, inasmuch as he shall make intercession for all the children of men; and they that believe in him shall be saved.

Yeah some scripture suggestions would help.

Just checked out a Book of Mormon from my school library, and I've been reading it since last night.

Just wondering...this book comes with the Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price in it. Can someone tell me what exactly these are?

The Doctrine and Covenants is a collection of revelations given mainly to Joseph Smith concerning the guidance and direction for the Church. Formerly known as 'The Book of Commandments'

The Pearl of Great Price contains the Book of Moses, the Book of Abraham, and Joseph Smith's history. The books of Moses and Abraham were translated by Joseph Smith from some papyrus found in an ancient tomb in Egypt along with a couple of mummies. These relics were purchased by the Church and the Pearl of Great Price is the result.

Really? I thought the Book of Moses was an excerpt from Joseph Smith's inspired translation of the Bible, not from papyrus.

Firefox is an internet browser, that in my opnion is far superior to IE.

I think Safari is the best web browser...but then, everything Macs do is better than the competition, in my opinion. Nothing beats my iMac and Macbook Pro, both with Intel Core Duo and 2 Gigabytes of RAM each...not to mention no one writes viruses for Macs. It's all those disaffected ex-Microsoft employees that screw Windows users, hahaha. Macs rock! :)

And there are those who say macs are the PC's that people who are computer illiterate learn on before progressing to real computers :P

Yes, I believe you are right on this one. The Book of Moses, from what I understand, covers about the first 8 or so chapters of the book of Genesis. Of course, Moses chapter 1 and, I think 7, are completely new, there is no equivalent in the Bible.

The rest is so much more defined and gives more information that even those verses that have a counterpart in the Bible may as well be new material. The story of Enoch comes to mind. In the Bible, it basically says that he was a good man and that he walked with God. The Book of Moses portrays him as being one of the greatest prophets to ever live. When he talked, the earth quaked and so forth. It tells of how he founded the city Zion, and ruled over it. And just prior to the great flood, Enoch, along with Zion was translated and taken into heaven.

This is just one such example. I personally find the Book of Moses to be one of the most interesting scriptures.

You are right A.K. The Book of Moses was not included on the papyri. The papyri included the Book of Abraham, and some writings from Joseph of Egypt.

I am unanware of what became of the writings of Joseph of Egypt.

Amen to that. I wish I had a Mac.

Hi, would it be possible for the people quoting BOM scripture to note whether the said scripture also appears in the Bible book of Isaiah please, just so that I can distinguish between those verses and other BOM verses..thanks :)

Hahaha, I thought that way too until I tried 'em out. I grew up using Win-doze...didn't convert to Macs until a few years ago. Only thing PC's do that Macs don't is games. Sorry for the tangent. ;)
